“Karen looked after our Westie, Pippa, this weekend. Pippa has multiple health issues so it was the first time in almost 2 years since we left her with anyone. We couldn’t have found a nicer, more capable person to take care of Pippa than Karen. She is calm and caring and very confident. She certainly had to use a lot of her vet tech assistant training while caring for Pippa. I would not hesitate to ask Karen to sit for us again, nor would I have any issues recommending Karen.”

“Willow was an absolute Rockstar with my 15 year old dog. She left my home cleaner then I did and my pups gives her a 10/10 review. Very communicative and would absolutely rebook her”

“This was the third time we’ve had Alyssa care for our cats, and I can confidently say she is 100% recommended! We came home to a clean house and happy, well-cared-for kitties. She went above and beyond and even baked us fresh bread, which was such a thoughtful surprise. I really appreciated the regular updates and photos throughout our trip. They gave me peace of mind and helped me know that my cats were doing well and were in great hands. Reliable, caring, and attentive—I wouldn’t hesitate to book her again!”

“This was our first time having Hope stay with our large senior boy and we couldn’t have asked for better care for him. Hope is very loving, attentive and thoughtful. She kept us up to date on how Hunter was doing while we were away and she had no problem dealing with his meds, mobility and incontinence issues. We highly recommend! Thank you Hope!!”

“Robin was great, especially with Toro (our senior dog) - he got a beach day and lots of snuggles. He was very happy and energetic when we got home. She also left us a beautiful drawing of all our animals - we're looking forward to her taking care of our kitties in August.”

About: Have had dogs and cats all my life, helped others with their pet care. A relative is a professional dog trainer and I have learned from her about disciplining dogs in a loving way. I am semi-retired and am not working at the moment so I have a lot of flexibility with my time. I am physically active and like to go for walks. My home is available for pets and besides myself the only people here are gentle with all pets. I am also available to go to client’s homes.
“Darcie was such a great sitter for our dog and cat. She had outstanding communication, and gave us regular updates with photos which we loved! She put our minds at ease with being away from our pooch for the first time -- thank you Darcie! We will definitely book again.”

“Maia was our first Rover pet sitter and we couldn’t have been happier with her. She kept us updated all weekend about their activities. She sent us pictures of their adventures. And our house was clean and tidy when we returned! Would definitely book again.”

“I get such relief when I'm gone for my long work days knowing that my furbaby will be well looked after. Thumper is always excited when Lyndsey comes through the door!”

“Melanie jumped and helped us out with a very last minute request and our doggo was super happy with her company. She also sent just the right amount of updates. Would def ask for her help again.”

About: Ever since I was 5 we have had a dog or three in the house. I have learned from a young age how to care for, love, and properly discipline dogs to assure that they know they are loved and yet display the best behaviour possible! All while keeping them happy and healthy. I am a business owner and over the past year I have been able to step away from the front lines and do management. This gives me the time needed to spend with your dogs and make sure they are taken care of while you are away! As I cannot offer services at my home, I will assure that your home is taken care of as well as your dog. Your home will be treated as if it is mine and your dog aswell. There’s not much I love more in life than dogs.
“Amy was terrific! She stayed 2 weeks in our home with our cat and French Bull dog. It was like we were never gone. Although they were all happy to see us when we arrived home, they hadn't skipped a beat! The house was as we left it and our fur babies were perfect! Our vacation was a huge success because of Amy and knowing Ruby and Lulu were in great hands. She sent us a picture/video every day which always made us smile. This was our first trip away and now we can confidently know it won't be our last. Thank you Amy, we really appreciate you :))”

Beth was absolutely phenomenal! She took such amazing care of our two pugs, our chickens and our home while we were away. We felt completely at ease knowing everything was in such capable hands and it was clear how much care and attention she gave to all of our animals. She was reliable, thoughtful and went above and beyond throughout her stay. We came home to happy pets and a well cared for home. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and would have Beth back in a heartbeat. Highly, highly recommend!

Jane was terrific with Charlie and Poppy when we had her meet with them beforehand. She was willing to look after Charlie and Poppy for 2 days. She had to meet our friend who had Charlie and Poppy because we left them with her for a few days before they were to meet Jane. The meeting went well with Jane when the dogs were passed over to her. Jane followed their meal plan and the dogs ate well. They took to her as if they had known her for a long while. They were well cared for and were excited to see us when we arrived home.

Rejan was a wonderful caregiver for our puppy Toby! She was very communicative, responded quickly, and sent pictures! She also came for a short visit before our booking to meet Toby and get to know our house before our trip, which we really appreciated. She brought her lovely dog Jasper for the dog sitting and Toby just loved playing and walking with Jasper. He was a tired and happy pup when we got home! Thank you so much Rejan!!

Karen was fantastic - asked lots of great questions about routine and my pup’s individual quirks! They are very tactile dogs who love to cuddle up as close as possible and Karen was happy to accommodate their “demands” for snuggles! I came back to two happy dogs and a spotless home, and I’d absolutely book with Karen again!

Robin was great, especially with Toro (our senior dog) - he got a beach day and lots of snuggles. He was very happy and energetic when we got home. She also left us a beautiful drawing of all our animals - we're looking forward to her taking care of our kitties in August.

Kaitlyn did a fantastic job looking after our senior dog. Chloe was very happy and clearly well looked after. I very much appreciated all the photos sent while we were away, the watering of my plants and the great communication. I would highly recommend Kaitlyn!

We had Alyssa come stay last minute for a trip, as our original pet care fell through. Alyssa was so lovely with our cat and bearded dragon, and had great communication throughout our time away. We felt like we could trust her right away, and came home to happy animals! She left our home clean and our yard was cared for. Thank you Alyssa!

Sara-Maude took such wonderful care of our Bichon Frise, Minnie! From the moment we met her, we knew Minnie was in great hands. She kept us updated with photos and messages throughout the stay, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. We haven’t left our dog with someone who isn’t family for many years and we were a bit nervous, but this disappeared after the first hour of being away. Sara-Maude took Minnie on walks, gave her lots of love and cuddles, and truly treated her as if she were her own. It was clear that Minnie was happy, comfortable, and incredibly well cared for. Her genuine love for animals really shines through. She was kind, reliable, and very easy to communicate with throughout the entire stay. We are so grateful for the excellent care she provided and wouldn't hesitate to book with her again. She left our house in an even cleaner state than we left it. We highly recommend Sara-Maude to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring dog sitter. Thank you for taking such great care of Minnie!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Langford maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Langford walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Langford choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 89% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
