Host Name: Ian A. Feb 09, 2026 Nanaimo BC February 8th 2026 We recently invited Teresa into our home to look after our house and dog for 9 days while we traveled to Mexico. I am reluctant to provide an honest review....why?…because she will get more and more clients making it harder for us to book her on future occasions when we need her. She is quite simply amazing! Not just the fact that the house was impeccably clean when we got back.... the sheets were washed and the beds were made, the house had been vacuumed, the fridge had been cleaned ,but she even did some small gardening for us, all completely on her own initiative. We had seen reviews from some of her previous clients and I thought they were too good to be true but now we understand. You are instantly comforted knowing that she cares about your property because within the first hour of her being here, she had asked me where the smoke detectors were, did we have a fire extinguisher, and where was the main water shut off. (I don't think my own wife knows where that is! ) All things that could potentially be beneficial to know.... While we were away she communicated with us almost daily with pictures of the numerous walks that she was doing with our dog and he probably was disappointed when she had to leave because I am sure that she spoiled him completely. However he will be very happy to see her come back very soon as we are off to South Africa for 3 weeks and she will once again be welcomed in our house. We now consider Teresa not just our house sitter but a friend. She truly is phenomenal and I have no hesitation in highly recommending her services. You need have NO concerns. Ian & Dianne
“Awesome sitter! Super friendly and I felt very relaxed having my dog Dylan in her care. She took excellent care of Dylan and he got along great with her dogs. I would HIGHLY recommend her.”

“We found Katelyn just before a last-minute trip and consider ourselves to be so fortunate to make such a find. Our four pets can be a handful and housesitting as well! She was amazing - charming, smart, obviously pet-loving, efficient and reassuring. We are wanting to book her for the long term so we might be working against that by giving her such a great recommendation. Hmmm. Janet and James”

I have a rescue dog named Renfrew, so I know every dog is different and has their own personality and needs. I’d love to get to know your dog and provide them with a safe, fun, and loving environment. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! About: Ease your mind with your pets care in my hands! I have grown up surrounded by animals of all kinds, from fish and guinea pigs to birds, cats, and my dog Marley. Being exposed to such a wide variety of pets has given me a strong understanding of different animal needs, behaviors, and personalities. Caring for them has always come naturally to me, and over the years I’ve developed a deep sense of responsibility and attentiveness when it comes to their wellbeing. While I truly love all animals, I have a special connection with dogs. I enjoy their companionship, energy, and unique personalities, and I’m very comfortable meeting their daily needs, whether that’s feeding, walking, playing, or simply providing them with attention and affection. I understand how important it is for pets to feel safe, cared for, and loved, especially when their owners are away. Through my experience, I’ve become patient, reliable, and intuitive when it comes to animal care. I love spending time with animals and treat every pet as if they were my own. I am currently working a day job Monday through Friday (9-5) until June - which means I typically will be available evenings, weekends and early mornings if needed! Keeping pets safe whether in their own home or in mine, comes down to being attentive, prepared, and creating a calm, secure environment. In your home, I make sure to follow all instructions closely so your pet’s routine stays consistent. I double-check that doors, gates, and windows are secure to prevent any escapes, and I’m mindful of things like food left out, small objects, or anything that could be harmful. I respect the pet’s space and comfort level, keeping their environment calm and familiar while making sure they’re always supervised and cared for. In my own home, I focus on creating a pet-safe environment before they even arrive. I remove any hazards like toxic foods, loose cords, or small items they could swallow. I ensure there’s a clean, comfortable space for them to relax, with access to fresh water at all times. I also take time to slowly introduce them to the space so they feel safe and not overwhelmed. No matter where I’m caring for pets, I stay attentive to their behavior and needs, making sure they feel secure, comfortable, and well cared for at all times.

About: Animals have been a cherished part of my life since childhood, when I had the joy of growing up with 2 dogs. The pure happiness animals bring to me remains truly unmatched by anything else in life. I have been professionally pet sitting for 2 years and I have had the experience to care for many breeds and ages. From energetic husky pups to a blind senior lab that required medication and more specific care. I absolutely love animals and miss being around them when I'm not caring for them or walking them. I am able to do walks, drop-in visits, or live-in pet sitting based on my calender. I am always happy to make new animal friends! I treat every animal as it was my own. I have a deep love for animals and treat them with affection. I understand each animal has different levels of learning, communication, and trust and I take the time to learn about every animal I take care of. I love building relationships with pets and animals.

“Tammy provided excellent care for both my home and my pets. She made sure my dog got daily walks and little adventures, and I really appreciated all the photo updates while I was away. My dog is a senior, and Tammy was incredibly thoughtful—she even brought a dog stroller so Bella could ride comfortably whenever she got tired. Tammy truly went above and beyond. She left my home clean and tidy, even organizing a few things around the house. I was welcomed home with freshly baked banana bread on the counter and a handwritten note, which was such a lovely touch. We would be absolutely happy to have Tammy back again and highly recommend her!”

About: Please note I can NOT take dogs over 15” at the shoulder. If your dog is under 15" at the shoulder I can take them even if they weigh 35 lbs. Thanks for understanding. Also ROVER charges you 11% on top of my rate. Plus they take 20% of whatever is booked. Thought you should know :) Now on to the profile. Also I have my location set for housesitting in Alberta in August as I will be there. Already booked up for July and September on Vancouver Island. I honestly love animals. I sometimes ask my friends to come over, just so I can hang out with their dogs. (my friends are okay with this) I'm well versed in giving dogs and cats their medication orally, or mixed in with food. I don't give needles. All of my dogs, except one lived to ripe old ages and I am well versed in dealing with mobility issues, deafness, blindness and incontinence. I love animals of all ages and I truly believe each stage of their life enhances ours. I have dealt with foster dogs with PTSD and I'm well aware how slow movements and soft voices are highly important to make a pet feel comfortable. I've taken a few dogs from vicious to cuddle bug in my time. Yes, some of them took months, but in the end, they learned to trust. All they need is love, patience and the time to destress and learn that not every human will hurt them. That being said, I'm not up for sitting a reactive dog at this time. I understand that your pets will need to approach me, not the other way around. Of course I will try to coax them to come to me, but if they don't, I'm okay with that. I simply want to give care to animals and get their companionship, if only for a short time, in return. I am semi-retired and work from home. As I have a fenced yard, I can easily accommodate small and medium sized dogs. I may have to go out for an hour here and there, but, for the most part, I am home. I have a fenced yard for dogs. Sorry - no cats at this time. If your dog is crate trained, they can stay in my bedroom with me in the crate, or if they are completely housetrained, they can even snuggle on the bed if that is your preference. When looking after pets in your home, I will follow their routine, as advised by you.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in North Saanich maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred North Saanich walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in North Saanich choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 89% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
