“Thelma was fantastic! She stepped up for us last minute and was punctual, easy to communicate with and very professional. It was wonderful to feel comfortable going away, and knowing someone capable was looking after my pup. When we came back, she had done the laundry and tidied the house and amazingly kept all of my flowers in bloom. She also was flexible and understanding, allowing workers to come into our house while we were away and keeping us up-to-date on their progress. Most importantly, when we returned Finnegan was calm, relaxed and happy. I would absolutely recommend Thelma for anyone looking for a reliable House Sitter who goes above and beyond.”

“Erin stayed at my house and took care of my dog and two cats for 5 or 6 days. All the animals seemed to like her immediately. She played with them and sent pictures regularly and always responded quickly to messages. The house was spic and span when we got home. The animals were happy. My dog got lots of hikes and swims. I have no complaints and happily recommend Erin. Thank you Erin!”

“Jaydyn is truly exceptional. I am a very protective pet parent, and I do not give my trust lightly. But I would feel completely confident leaving my pets in Jaydyn’s care. She takes the time to understand each animal’s personality and needs, and her compassion is evident in everything she does. Her commitment to going above and beyond is rare and deeply appreciated. I cannot recommend her enough.”

“This was the very first time I have ever had anyone come to my home and stay with my dogs. Alyssa really made this first experience painless and stress free for me. She was lovely with my two dogs, and was happy to send photos of them for me throughout her stay. Not only that, but she brought the garbage cans in, left the house clean and tidy, and even stripped her bed for me. She was a delight and I will not hesitate to call her in the future!”

“Janean was very friendly, communicative and professional. This was my first time hiring a professional dog sitter/house sitter and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend.”

“It's so nice to go away and not have to worry about my boy. Karuna it's so attentive and my dog absolutely loves her she's so good at sending updates and photos. It makes going away easy knowing that he's in good hands”

About: Hi there! I am a friendly young professional from British Columbia 🌊🌲🏔️ and a lifelong animal lover with a rich history of caring for various pets. I have flexibility to provide the best possible care for your pets! Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have; I’d love to chat! I have a flexible schedule and can provide attentive care for your pets throughout the week. I work from home most of the time, although I do have a couple part-time commitments outside of the house. I love taking dogs on long walks, playing fetch at the park, meeting new furry friends, and discovering new neighbourhoods around the city. Your pet’s safety is my top priority. Before walks, I always check gates and fences, and I make sure all doors are locked before leaving the house. I also remove any hazards, secure garbage, and double-check food areas to minimize risks. I prepare for unexpected situations by knowing your veterinarian’s location and the fastest route there in case of an emergency. You can trust that your pets will be safe, happy, and well-cared for while in my care.
“Rhaya was just wonderful with my two dogs! She was thoughtful and patient and very kind, and both my boys had a very happy time with her. I really appreciated all the little things she thought of, to make things comfortable and fun for them. We all look forward to the next time she cares for them:)”

“Kylee took good care of my dog Cheecha and followed the instructions I left for her. She was easy to communicate with, sent daily pictures and told me when my dog was showing signs of an upset tummy. When I got back home, the house was in the same clean condition I left it in. I would definitely book with her again. Thank you Kylee!”

“If there is someone whom you can trust to watch your new puppy, 7-year-old chi and stay in your home it would be 100% Ashley, me and my partner both agreed shortly after meeting with her that she is responsible, caring and would be an excellent fit to watch our pups. And most importantly someone you can trust with all that. We will happily be booking with her again. Thanks again Ashley!”
About: Hey! I’m a Veterinary Assistant with 4 years of experience working in clinic. This has taught me many valuable skills including post surgical / wound care, administration of various medications, dietary needs, and many other pet caring skills. I also have spent a great deal of time caring for my own elderly doggy who recently passed from cancer. This in conjunction with my training has given me a great deal of experience working with high need pets who require complicated care. I’ve also done some casual cat and dog sitting for family, friends, and coworkers. Since my own doggie passed I have been missing my pet time and thought this would be the perfect way to get my fix! :) This September I’ll be going into full time school, as a student I will need to be on the VIU campus for 2-8 hours daily on weekdays. I’ll be available for pet care before and after class, and all day on weekends. :) As someone who has worked with pets of all kinds with varying medical and physical needs you can rest assured that I will have both the skills and knowledge to give your pet the absolute best care!

My goal is to keep your pets on their regular schedule while you are away so that they are as comfortable as possible. I am happy to provide regular updates and photos to keep you updated on how they are doing during my stay!
“Nicole took such great care of our pups while we had a trip to the mainland. She sent us the cutest updates, took them out for some great active time and snuggled them for us. It gave us such peace of mind knowing they were cared for and we could just enjoy ourselves. She left our home in spotless condition and was so sweet and communicative. 10/10 recommend!!”
“Laura did amazing at my house and with my pets, she kept in great communication, followed instructions, kept the house very tidy and clean, she was a joy to have watch my dogs and lizard!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Parksville
Alyssa was very quick to respond to messages and willing to work with our rescue dog that required some extra TLC and patience. She was able to accommodate our last minute request and was flexible with timing. Our dog has anxiety and is easily spooked around new people and Alyssa was able to find ways to connect with him and make sure that he was well looked after.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Parksville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Parksville walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Parksville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
