“This was the very first time I have ever had anyone come to my home and stay with my dogs. Alyssa really made this first experience painless and stress free for me. She was lovely with my two dogs, and was happy to send photos of them for me throughout her stay. Not only that, but she brought the garbage cans in, left the house clean and tidy, and even stripped her bed for me. She was a delight and I will not hesitate to call her in the future!”

“Erin did an excellent job taking care of my elderly dog & even older cat! Both of them took a liking to her straight away which is wonderful as our dog is quite picky with his people :) Would highly recommend, and look forward to her next visit.”
“We are beyond grateful for the amazing care Phia provided our little girl Angel!! From our first contact with Phia on Rover to our two meet and greets. Phia was very professional and supportive. As this was our first time using Rover, Phia explained the process. During our first meet and greet she was already a friend to our dog. During our second meeting, we went over our home and all our dog instructions. As our Angel is very picky and had extra care needs during the feeding time. She assured our time away would be harder on us as she would provide extra love and playtime with Angel. While away we received several daily reports and daily photos. The transition from us leaving went extremely good and our dog adjusted well with Phia’s love. Upon our return our home was well taken care of and cleaned, including the towels and bedding. Knowing we were coming home at 3 am from a long flight, Phia had our beds ready to climb into and sleep. We cannot say enough good things about Phia. We will use her again and highly recommend her to anyone!! Thank you Phia!!! ♥️”

“Jaydyn is truly exceptional. I am a very protective pet parent, and I do not give my trust lightly. But I would feel completely confident leaving my pets in Jaydyn’s care. She takes the time to understand each animal’s personality and needs, and her compassion is evident in everything she does. Her commitment to going above and beyond is rare and deeply appreciated. I cannot recommend her enough.”

“5 stars all around for Janean. We had her house sit for over a week and came back to happy dogs and a clean house. Couldn't ask for a better Rover experience. Thanks so much!”

“Karuna is an excellent petsitter - organized, flexible and most importantly skilled at caring for animals. Really appreciate her clear communication, regular updates and affection for our pets. We will definitely be booking with her again.”

About: Salut! I am a friendly young professional from British Columbia 🌊🌲🏔️ and a lifelong animal lover with a rich history of caring for various pets. I have flexibility to provide the best possible care for your pets! Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have; I’d love to chat! My experience includes 4 family dogs (Tiko, a papillion; Bailey, a sheltie; Pancake, a golden mix; and Sunny, an American Eskimo) and have absolutely loved cat-sitting for friends and family over the years. I have a flexible schedule and can provide attentive care for your pets throughout the week. I work from home most of the time, although I do have a couple part-time commitments outside of the house. I love taking dogs on long walks, playing fetch at the park, meeting new furry friends, and discovering new neighbourhoods around the city. Your pet’s safety is my top priority. Before walks, I always check gates and fences, and I make sure all doors are locked before leaving the house. I also remove any hazards, secure garbage, and double-check food areas to minimize risks. I prepare for unexpected situations by knowing your veterinarian’s location and the fastest route there in case of an emergency. You can trust that your pets will be safe, happy, and well-cared for while in my care.
About: I have previously lived with 4 large dogs! And loved every minute of it. During this time I helped raise two puppies and took all 4 for frequent walks. I am available on Saturday and Sunday full time. Otherwise for week days I am available from the morning until 4 pm as I work evenings. I am an expert at building relationships with other peoples dogs! I love to play with them, take for walks or even just cuddle with them on the sofa I am also willing to do whatever necessary to keep them safe
“Laura did amazing at my house and with my pets, she kept in great communication, followed instructions, kept the house very tidy and clean, she was a joy to have watch my dogs and lizard!”

“Rhaya did a great job watching our two dogs for over a week!! Both of our dogs each have special quirks, particularly separation anxiety, and they both did great with her while we were gone. We really appreciated the daily text message updates with pictures and her responsiveness. We will definitely use Rhaya again to watch our pups when we’re out of town.”

“At first we were nervous to let someone we don't know stay at our home, but Kylee arranged to meet us a few days earlier to introduce herself, which put all of the uncertainty aside. She is friendly, courteous, and I had no doubt she would take good care of Josie, Jenny and Thandi...and of course our home. To look after 3 dogs, one still a pup, is a tall order, but Kylee was a real trooper and did an amazing job! She communicated well and kept up us up to speed with how they were doing during our trip. Thank you for leaving the house clean and tidy. We will certainly make use of your services again :-)”

“If there is someone whom you can trust to watch your new puppy, 7-year-old chi and stay in your home it would be 100% Ashley, me and my partner both agreed shortly after meeting with her that she is responsible, caring and would be an excellent fit to watch our pups. It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Parksville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Parksville walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Parksville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
