“Shelley was amazing !! She took care of our house, our dog, our cat and our chickens lol :) Thank you so much, Shelley. She sent us photos and updates; the house was spotless (thank you!!), Our mind was at ease while we were away. We would definitely 100% recommend Shelley, and we would absolutely hire her again in the future!!”

“Carolyn was amazing with enzo! It was very comforting to know our furry was in wonderful care. We were so happy to receive pics and checkins on how our enzo was doing! Carolyn's attentive care gave us a peace of mind especially for our furry with separation anxiety. Most appreciated. We will 100% book again. 😊”

“Kim was such a wonderful home and dog sitter. She took such great care of our Gus and sent us lots of photos and updates. She played lots of brain games with her and took her on little adventures. Our dog is a snuggler and it was so nice to know that Kim welcomed the snuggles. We would without hesitation book Kim again!”

“Anna was great with our furry and feathered family. She communicated early and made sure to ask important questions so we felt very comfortable leaving our 2 frenchies in her care. She gave them lots of attention and walks and they seemed relaxed and happy when we got home. The house was tidy and everything was very well cared for. We hope to have Anna back!”

“Janean was very friendly, communicative and professional. This was my first time hiring a professional dog sitter/house sitter and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend.”

“Lyndsey was so amazing with our large, 125lbs mastiff! She stayed at our place with our dog while we were away for the weekend, provided updates and photos and made the entire process so seamless and easy that we were able to fully relax while away from our pup! 10/10 recommend”

About: I have been caring for pets of family and friends since I was a child and always put in the extra time for exercise, mental stimulation, and affection. I have successfully helped puppies complete puppy training and offer caring support to elderly animals and those with special medical needs. I do contract work and have a lot of time off so can be with your pets for extended amounts of time. I live in the forest close to a provincial park I visit regularly and can provide long nature walks for your dogs. While I currently don't have any of my own pets at this time, I will enthusiastically cherish the time I get to spend with yours!
About: Hello! I have been an animal lover all of my life, I have a particular love for cats and dogs and have 2 cats and 1 dog of my own! I have a kind and compassionate nature and my goal in life is to pet as many dogs as possible. I have a soft spot for cats and would be happy to do drop on visits with playtime, feeding and litter box cleanings as well. If your cat likes to be walked, I can do that too! I look forward to meeting you and your furry friends as well as earning your trust. Lastly I promise to treat your furry friends as if they were my own. If you have any questions feel free to ask! ( as a side note I can also feed, water and collect chicken eggs while you are away on vacation) My availability varies week by week, upon requests I can discuss availability and determine if I would be a suitable sitter for your pets. I do have a vehicle and can accommodate multiple drops ins during the day. In a clients home I would make sure I am caring for the animal as to not disrupt their normal routine. If a cat is sat at my home they will have their own kitty paradise in a spare room along with their food, water, litter. This is to ensure a low stress environment for all involved.
“Erin did an excellent job taking care of my elderly dog & even older cat! Both of them took a liking to her straight away which is wonderful as our dog is quite picky with his people :) Would highly recommend, and look forward to her next visit.”
“Melinda was great and convinced me she has the confidence and dependability to take care of my dog. Because I am new to the Rover experience, I much appreciated that she wanted me to share all about my dog and our activities before we agreed that she would take care of him for about a week in my home. She was confident and calm with my dog and took on some yard care tasks in my absence. She reported to me every couple of days (as requested) documenting things were going well. I was away for an extended time and Melinda had to hand over dog sitting to a friend of mine, who confirmed that the dog was in great spirits and my house was left tidy and clean. I greatly appreciate her help, and I will hire her again when the need arises. Thanks Melinda!!”
“Rhaya was just wonderful with my two dogs! She was thoughtful and patient and very kind, and both my boys had a very happy time with her. I really appreciated all the little things she thought of, to make things comfortable and fun for them. We all look forward to the next time she cares for them:)”

About: I believe in structure that is fun and rewarding win/win for animal and humans. Touch/massage/space/respect that animal requires including but not limited too massage therapy. I've owned cats and dogs thru out my childhood, as an adult I adopted older and untrained animals from shelters and breeders and they fit in perfectly with rythem love and consistency. I work as a local barber. I am flexible with my schedule. I'm flexible to come and go to walk or house sit for you and your fur baby! I can follow instructions for your family and pets routine of normal. Talk, read, pet, sing, watch little Netflix whatever they enjoy for human time.
“Sarah was very communicative and considerate with the needs of our dogs. She was also really accommodating when it came to meeting us beforehand a couple of times (both to make sure she was comfortable and the dogs). She left our apartment in the same condition in which we left it, the dogs were calm and comfortable upon our return. We are so grateful to Sarah for taking amazing care of our Dogs, and would absolutely have her stay with us again! Thank you!!!”

About: Grew up on a farm with a dog- and been obsessed ever since! I am a Boston terrier lover at heart, but always wanted someone to have nearby that if I needed care that they too would love my dog like I did- as family. I’m super flexible for schedules and travel. I have my own vehicle, so I don’t mind picking up or dropping off. I can be available for vet appointments, ferry transport, and airport transport or just a good ol’ fashion cuddle and ball toss. I’m comfortable giving medication to the dogs if needed as I have cared for elderly pets too. I want them to feel safe and at ease, and reduce any stress- I want to offer them same love and care that I did with Brutus, and always wanted to have someone available to love my dog with the same love and care. But happy to learn about any specifics you have about your pets needs and quirks. ♥️
“Paige and Andrew took such great care of Haru and helped me out with my garden while I was away. I got cute updates if there’s walks and they navigated Haru’s high energy and quirks like pros. I also appreciate how tidy my home was when I got back. I would book these two again every time. Thank you so much!”

About: I have previously lived with 4 large dogs! And loved every minute of it. During this time I helped raise two puppies and took all 4 for frequent walks. I am available on Saturday and Sunday full time. Otherwise for week days I am available from the morning until 4 pm as I work evenings. I am an expert at building relationships with other peoples dogs! I love to play with them, take for walks or even just cuddle with them on the sofa I am also willing to do whatever necessary to keep them safe
“I can’t say enough good things about Jillian. The care and attention she gave to our girl Abby is beyond 5 star. Jillian is a great communicator, from the very start. We got daily updates about what she was up to with Abby, along with photos and videos. It was such a nice feeling to leave our home and much loved pet/family member in Jillian’s great hands! We hope to have her back soon for our next getaway 💕🐶💕”

“We had a great experience with Melissa. She was fast to respond, easy to communicate with, and came over to our house beforehand for a meet and greet, which I really appreciated. From the beginning, I felt that she was reliable and trustworthy. I felt completely comfortable leaving my home and the dogs in her care, knowing she would show up exactly as agreed. Melissa took wonderful care of Pablo and Braza. She took them on adventures to the beach, followed all of my wishes and instructions carefully, and truly went above and beyond. What stood out most was how calm, capable, and unfazed she was with my dogs’ special needs and sometimes slightly out-of-line behavior – she didn’t flinch or seem overwhelmed at all. Overall, I felt I could fully trust Melissa and our agreement from start to finish. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dependable, caring, and communicative dog sitter.”

Carolyn was amazing with enzo! It was very comforting to know our furry was in wonderful care. We were so happy to receive pics and checkins on how our enzo was doing! Keah was absolutely amazing!!! She kept us regularly updated so we were never worried leaving our two cats and two dogs and house in her care. She kept our house as we left it, clean and tidy and we are so happy to have found such a wonderful pet sitter. She followed all of our instructions miticulously. Will definitely be using her again in the future. Thanks Keah!

Tiffany was great! She sent a couple photo updates and spent lots of time with our dog while house sitting for us. Our dog was very happy and relaxed when we arrived home. Tiffany paid good attention to our dogs needs and given our dog is a bit shy, we were pleased to hear she warmed up to Tiffany right away :)

As of July 2026, there are 140 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Port Alberni. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Port Alberni maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Port Alberni walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Port Alberni choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
