“Rebecca is awesome! All our neighbours commented on how often they saw Rebecca out for walks with the dogs during the day and how friendly and engaging she was. The house was very clean on our return. We highly recommend Rebecca.”

“Ashley is a true animal whisperer! Ashley helped us out on a last minute request to watch our big, young, energetic dog for the day while we worked in the area. Ashley accommodated a very early drop off, which we were very grateful for. She worked with a high level of skill and professionalism to masterfully care for our high needs dog. She is warm and friendly and accepting. She is the best! Your pet is very lucky if she's available for their care!”

“We couldn't be happier with the care Cindy provided while staying at our home. What impressed us most was her ability to build a relationship with our two dogs. One of our pups is a rescue with significant trust issues, and Cindy was patient and intuitive in earning their confidence. She kept us completely at ease with frequent updates, photos, and detailed reports. It was clear our dogs were happy and well-cared for. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful, trustworthy sitter!”

“Deborah was lovely! She did an amazing job for us in our home while we were away for 5 days. Our 14 year old dog was also happy with Debbie and showed that when we arrived home! We had a bunch of seedling plants in the greenhouse waiting to be planted out in the garden. It got quite hot while we were away and Deborah did a great job of keeping our plants alive! We will definitely be happy to have Deborah come again and highly recommend her to others needing pets and home cared for while away! Thank you again Deborah!”

“Fiona housesat our dog ollie and cat Otto for 5 nights she was amazing. Sent photos everyday of there adventures. Went for big walks with ollie everyday. Both animals were very happy throughout her stay. I also came home to a house that was as clean as I left it, which was bonus. Would definently recommend her and will be booking her again in the future.”

“Tony is a very kind hearted person with a calm approach. He was very flexible with the needs of my dog who have separation anxiety. He was reassuring with his words. I am happy to hire him again and would recommend him. A very nice man.”

About: I’ve had pets all through out my life. I am very accommodating and have the most patience when it comes to animals. I love training, and am very familiar with the puppy phase, i’m a pro at midnight potty breaks. If your pet has any routines or weird quirks they enjoy, I love to provide! I currently volunteer at a local shelter and am starting a part time position in April, so I am very available right now, and will be flexible working around my schedule when the time comes. I love positive reinforcement, I don’t believe any animal being submissive or fearful is the goal, respect goes both ways. If you work on training or certain cues I’m more then happy to incorporate them in walks or with meals.
“Brynne did a fantastic job with caring for my shy rescue dog in my house for three nights. We did a couple of meet and greets and dog walks prior to the house sitting so that my dog could get to know her. She did a great job of working at my dog’s pace to get comfortable with her presence. She didn’t push her past her comfort zone and made every effort for my dog to be comfortable while I was away. She also did an excellent job of administering oral medication and taking care of my space while housesitting. I will definitely be booking her again!”

About: Over the past several years, I have looked after home and petals for family and friends, caring for daily routines and walks to overnight stays. I'm currently completely my masters and working part time. Recently moved back to the Comox Valley. My time currently is pretty flexible. Excited to help. Happy to take your dog for a walk, or looked after your house and pets while you are away. Excited to work with you and your pets.
About: Hi! My name is Jennifer. I live in Courtenay and I am a mom of 4 beautiful children, I would love the opportunity to take care of your pets, I have well over 20+ years of experience looking after and being around all sorts of animals. I’m a stay at home mom, who enjoys spending time with her family and furbabies, so I have a lots of time to play & take them on walks!! I am currently taking on new clients, cats & dogs of all ages as well as pets with special needs, dietary restrictions, and health conditions. I‘m extremely passionate about animals and always treat other's homes and pets as if they were my own. I‘m responsible, respectful, and reliable and I have excellent references.
About: I am a life long pet owner and lover! I am newly retired now and have decided my hobby would be pet sitting! My pet sitting experience (1 year so far) has taught me to able able to adapt to all types of doggie personalities as well as being comfortable to give meds when needed. I speak dog and cat extremely well! :-). I am healthy and love getting out for walks and enjoy play time with cats of all types. Interacting and doing things together with animals is the very best way to bond with them and it's just plain FUN! I am flexible and able to accommodate most schedules with notice. I am an early riser and have my own vehicle and that seems to work for walks and outings! At this time I am not able to take pets into my own home due to not having a fully fenced yard. This is something I may consider in the future.
“Colleen and Robb are incredible! They went above and beyond in every way. They truly made our vacation better: we knew our dog was being well cared for and loved (the pics were amazing), our house was immaculate, they were flexible with our travel delays, they were conscientious and considerate with every detail, and the communication level was phenomenal. We were a bit nervous about leaving our quirky Frenchie, Walter, but it’s clear in our return that he was in the best hands. We won’t hesitate to reach out to Colleen and Robb in the future or to share their profile with our friends and family. We highly recommend them if you are looking for a stress free vacation and pampering for your furry friend/s.”

About: I’ve been caring for animals for as long as I can remember. I grew up with cats, and by my teenage years I was the go-to pet sitter for friends, family and friends of friends. Over time, that turned into paid, freelance work caring for both cats and dogs with a wide range of personalities and needs. I have experience with both kittens/puppies and senior pets, including those who need oral medication, and I’m comfortable caring for multiple animals at once while keeping their routines and needs separate and respected. What matters most to me is that your pet feels safe and not disrupted while you’re away. I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every animal is different, and I follow your routines, your preferences, and your pet’s cues. Some animals want play and energy, others want space and a calm presence. I’m attentive to that and adjust accordingly. I’m calm, gentle, and patient with animals. I respect their space and let them come to me, which tends to work especially well for shy or more sensitive pets. At the same time, I genuinely love connecting with animals, so if your pet is the cuddly type, they’ll get plenty of affection too. Because I work from home, I have a lot of flexibility in my day. I can adjust my schedule to meet your pet’s needs, whether that’s more frequent bathroom breaks, check-ins, or sticking closely to a specific routine. I offer a free meet and greet so we can make sure it’s a good fit for everyone. This also helps me understand your pet’s routine, personality, and any specific needs so I can care for them properly. Pet care fits naturally into my routine because I work from home and have a flexible schedule. I’m able to plan my day around visits, walks, and check-ins rather than trying to squeeze them in around a rigid workday. That means I can show up consistently, adjust timing when needed, and be responsive if something changes, whether that’s an extra visit, a longer walk, or a quick check-in. Since all of my services take place in my client’s home, my focus is on keeping things as familiar and consistent as possible for your pet. I follow your routines closely, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and any specific instructions you provide. I pay attention to your pet’s behaviour and comfort level, adjusting my approach based on their energy, personality, and needs in the moment. For drop-ins and walks, I make sure your pet gets the right balance of care, whether that’s exercise, enrichment, or simply some calm company. For house sitting, I maintain a steady presence so your pet can stay relaxed in their own space while you’re away. I also take care to keep your home tidy and respected, so you can come back to everything just as you left it.

“Kathy was an exceptional pet sitter for our fur babies. From the initial meet & greet to the updates throughout our trip. We especially loved the photos on the first day where Gizmo cuddled right up to her on the couch. They were well loved & beyond spoiled & cared for. We highly recommend Kathy as a pet sitter. She's very personable and shows so much compassion for animals. We will definitely be contacting her in the future ... and well now that we're home, we think it's safe to say our 3 fur babies have separation anxiety from Kathy lol ♥️”

“Melinda was great and convinced me she has the confidence and dependability to take care of my dog. Because I am new to the Rover experience, I much appreciated that she wanted me to share all about my dog and our activities before we agreed that she would take care of him for about a week in my home. She was confident and calm with my dog and took on some yard care tasks in my absence. She reported to me every couple of days (as requested) documenting things were going well. I was away for an extended time and Melinda had to hand over dog sitting to a friend of mine, who confirmed that the dog was in great spirits and my house was left tidy and clean. I greatly appreciate her help, and I will hire her again when the need arises. Thanks Melinda!!”
“Tamara and Luke are fantastic! Our little boy absolutely loved them and they took such great care of him. Tamara send me updates on a regular basis (including photos) and I could see he was very happy. They also left our unit spotless. I will definitely use them again in the future if they are available. We would also recommend them to anyone who is looking for a sitter.”
About: I’ve had pets since I was a child and have had my own animals ever after. I have an energetic 2 year old staffy mix who loves other dogs and would happily play with a new friend in our back yard or cuddle a new friend in our home. If your pet doesn’t like other animals I can do check ins at your place too. I work from home Monday to Friday and have flexibility with pick up, drop off and visitation times. My weekends are often wide open- we typically take our dog for a hike or a play date. I look forward to making new fur friends (and their mums and dads as I’m new to the area)! I work from home and am available for walks in the mornings and evenings during the week and on weekends. I can do brief check in within a short drive from my home on the weekdays. I can house and pet sit in your home. I am open to dog walking, drop in visits or housesitting at your home. I can adjust my dog walks according to your pets needs- leisurely strolls to moderate runs/hike. I will feed your pet with whatever food you supply.
“Amelia was great to work with as we arranged our first house/pet sitting. Met our pups in advance and they loved her! Everything was low stress and our dogs were well cared for and happy/relaxed when we arrived back home:-) Thanks Amelia!”

About: I grew up with dogs and had them in my life since I was 8 years old. The world is just a better place with animals in it. I am just getting my business of the ground and have time during the week to look after your furry family members. My hours are flexible and if I have to pick my kids up from school, dance etc, I can always take your furry friend with me, my girls love animals. We have a big fenced backyard at our house and I also love to go out on hikes, the dog parc or the lake or ocean if your dogs like to swim or paddle board.
“Holly is absolutely wonderful! Her passion for animals is evident in the way she cared for our husky Skye. She went above and beyond, ensuring that every need was met with love and attention. Her dedication and genuine affection for pets make her the perfect sitter. We couldn't be happier with the care Skye received and highly recommend Holly to anyone looking for exceptional pet care.”

Janine and her daughters stayed in our home, and they took great care of our dog, Watson, and our chickens. Watson got to visit the beach and swim with them every day! We returned home to a happy flock, a very content dog, and a super clean house. I highly recommend Janine as a pet and house sitter! This was the third time she looked after our pets, and we are so happy with the care they received while we were away. ☺️

Ashley is a true animal whisperer! Your pet is very lucky if she's available for their care!

Tony looked after my 7 month old pup the 1st time I left her for a weekend. He was patient with her, kept me in the loop and sent lots of photos. Noel was happy & healthy when I returned and the house was clean. Noel & I highly recommend him to look after your pets!

Fiona saved us after a new pet sitter backed out three days before a trip out of province. She came over to get our routine and asked all the right questions so I knew she would be on the ball. She kept us up to date with pictures and made us feel very comfortable during a stressful time. We will absolutely have Fiona back to care for our babies!

Matthew is a very nice young man who communicated with us extremely well. He took very good care of our dog and home. Our dog can be a little nervous sometimes but he just seemed to bond with her and they were great friends. House was spotless. Thank you so much Matthew for a great stay. Definitely will be contacting you again.

Lily took Greta care of my pup Scout, he’s a high energy dog and she made sure he got adequate exercise and people time. She was very patient and understanding on the first day of the stay while Scout was getting used to her. I will definitely book with Lily for future dog sitting needs!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Courtenay maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Courtenay walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Courtenay choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
