Deborah was lovely! She did an amazing job for us in our home while we were away for 5 days. Our 14 year old dog was also happy with Debbie and showed that when we arrived home! We had a bunch of seedling plants in the greenhouse waiting to be planted out in the garden. It got quite hot while we were away and Deborah did a great job of keeping our plants alive! We will definitely be happy to have Deborah come again and highly recommend her to others needing pets and home cared for while away! Thank you again Deborah!

Fiona was wonderful with my little guy Cash. I got daily updates and pics and I came home to a very healthy and happy dog. She made sure he got his daily medicine, walks and cuddles. Fiona also took great care of my home while I was away. I highly recommend Fiona if you want someone to treat your fur baby as good as you do. Cash was very sad to see her leave.

About: I’ve loved animals since I was a little girl! My brother and I grew up with cats , Guinea pigs , dogs and bunny’s! I now own a 3 year old little weiner dog who is very friendly and loves to play! She makes a great companion and friend for your animal if they get along with others! I took care of my elderly grandparents dog for many years. Walking her daily, taking her to appointments and grooming her! I understand the nerves of leaving your pet with a sitter. I will treat them just as my own, I am a very well trusted person who has a deep love for animals as I can assure you your pet is safe with me! I am a bartender and I work 4 days a week, I work short shifts anywhere from 4-6 hours! I’m available most parts of the day as I usually work nights. I will be able to stop in the morning and afternoon and then evening after my shift to look after your furry friend! If your dog loves company I have a three year old weiner dog who loves other animals! She’s extremely friendly and loves to chase! I have .5 of an acre backyard they can run around in. I walk my dog Olive twice a day every day anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hour. I can bring yours along with me! I have a very quiet and calming space with a big yard surrounded by trees! My mother lives above me in the house and I can leave my dog upstairs if they do not get along or that is not something you’re comfortable with!

About: I have had a great love of all animals for as long as I’ve lived! I would love to walk/pet sit dogs whenever I can just to get more quality time with dogs in my life! I had worked in the retail sector of the pet care industry for 10+ years. The absolute best part of my job was getting to see the dogs that come in the store with their happy little wiggle-butts! I absolutely adore cats and have three of my own. I would be thrilled to pet sit for your cats as well! I have also spent time volunteering with a local cat rescue, where I learned about different types of care and medication administration I am currently focusing on gaining new clients and furry friends via Rover. I am available weekdays and weekends, from early mornings to late evenings I offer and kind and gentle service to animals of all types. I especially want to make sure they always feel safe and comfortable with me and their surroundings

We couldn't be happier with the care Cindy provided while staying at our home. What impressed us most was her ability to build a relationship with our two dogs. One of our pups is a rescue with significant trust issues, and Cindy was patient and intuitive in earning their confidence. She kept us completely at ease with frequent updates, photos, and detailed reports. It was clear our dogs were happy and well-cared for. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful, trustworthy sitter!

Colleen and Robb are incredible! They went above and beyond in every way. They truly made our vacation better: we knew our dog was being well cared for and loved (the pics were amazing), our house was immaculate, they were flexible with our travel delays, they were conscientious and considerate with every detail, and the communication level was phenomenal. We were a bit nervous about leaving our quirky Frenchie, Walter, but it’s clear in our return that he was in the best hands. We won’t hesitate to reach out to Colleen and Robb in the future or to share their profile with our friends and family. We highly recommend them if you are looking for a stress free vacation and pampering for your furry friend/s.

About: I have been a dog owner for 14 years, myself to a beautiful black labrador retriever named Voodoo who passed a few years ago. I miss him terribly every singe day. I have lots of experience with pets of all ages, breeds and sizes and understand the different needs at different times of their lives. Also comfortable administrating medications. I am extremely respectful of your wishes and will ensure at all times that you are informed, and up to date on your fur babies activities (be ready for photos coming your way). As a child, I took up to walking dogs in the neighbourhood. I've volunteered several times, and most memorable in Thailand with the elephants and 400 dogs that were rescued at the Elephant Nature Reserve . It was the highlight of my trip. I will always open my home and my heart to pets. Having pets whilst travelling the world, fills my hearts and make life so much better; puppy licks, cuddles and wagging tails from all around the World. Before becoming on-line business owner and coach, I was a corporate accountant in Ottawa, Canada. I now work remotely/on-line which allows me to be home most of the day with your beloved pets and accommodate your pets needs even further. I have spent that last 7 years in New Zealand coming back to Canada for Summer visits. However, I have since moved back to Courtenay. I love to travel and spend time with animals and have fallen in love with many of the locations and pets I return to on a regular basis. Many families appreciate having someone familiar come back to care for their fur-babies. As a pet owner, I now fill the void of losing a beloved pet by offering to pet sit. It's a win-win!! I have several dozen reviews I’d be happy to share upon request. I have a lot of expererience with all types of pets, administering medications as well as ensuring they are following your rules/guidelines set up in your welcome guide. I love to take lots of pictures and keep you updated with our adventures. I pride myself on being respectful, and treating your home as if it were my own. I always leave your home better than you left it (if thats possible) , so you can come home to a clean house, without any worries about cleaning up after anyone. I would be thrilled to meet you and your pets on FaceTime, virtual chat or in person to see whether we are a good fit for your home. Kindest Regards, Nancy I can care for your pets as needed based on your set up, surroundings and needs. Happy to meet up to gain familiarity with your routine to keep it as consistent as possible for your pet(s).

About: I’ve had pets all through out my life. I am very accommodating and have the most patience when it comes to animals. I love training, and am very familiar with the puppy phase, i’m a pro at midnight potty breaks. If your pet has any routines or weird quirks they enjoy, I love to provide! I currently volunteer at a local shelter and am starting a part time position in April, so I am very available right now, and will be flexible working around my schedule when the time comes. I love positive reinforcement, I don’t believe any animal being submissive or fearful is the goal, respect goes both ways. If you work on training or certain cues I’m more then happy to incorporate them in walks or with meals.

Kathy was an exceptional pet sitter for our fur babies. From the initial meet & greet to the updates throughout our trip. We especially loved the photos on the first day where Gizmo cuddled right up to her on the couch. They were well loved & beyond spoiled & cared for. We highly recommend Kathy as a pet sitter. She's very personable and shows so much compassion for animals. We will definitely be contacting her in the future ... and well now that we're home, we think it's safe to say our 3 fur babies have separation anxiety from Kathy lol ♥️

About: I’ve been caring for animals for as long as I can remember. I grew up with cats, and by my teenage years I was the go-to pet sitter for friends, family and friends of friends. Over time, that turned into paid, freelance work caring for both cats and dogs with a wide range of personalities and needs. I have experience with both kittens/puppies and senior pets, including those who need oral medication, and I’m comfortable caring for multiple animals at once while keeping their routines and needs separate and respected. What matters most to me is that your pet feels safe and not disrupted while you’re away. I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every animal is different, and I follow your routines, your preferences, and your pet’s cues. Some animals want play and energy, others want space and a calm presence. I’m attentive to that and adjust accordingly. I’m calm, gentle, and patient with animals. I respect their space and let them come to me, which tends to work especially well for shy or more sensitive pets. At the same time, I genuinely love connecting with animals, so if your pet is the cuddly type, they’ll get plenty of affection too. Because I work from home, I have a lot of flexibility in my day. I can adjust my schedule to meet your pet’s needs, whether that’s more frequent bathroom breaks, check-ins, or sticking closely to a specific routine. I offer a free meet and greet so we can make sure it’s a good fit for everyone. This also helps me understand your pet’s routine, personality, and any specific needs so I can care for them properly. Pet care fits naturally into my routine because I work from home and have a flexible schedule. I’m able to plan my day around visits, walks, and check-ins rather than trying to squeeze them in around a rigid workday. That means I can show up consistently, adjust timing when needed, and be responsive if something changes, whether that’s an extra visit, a longer walk, or a quick check-in. Since all of my services take place in my client’s home, my focus is on keeping things as familiar and consistent as possible for your pet. I follow your routines closely, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and any specific instructions you provide. I pay attention to your pet’s behaviour and comfort level, adjusting my approach based on their energy, personality, and needs in the moment. For drop-ins and walks, I make sure your pet gets the right balance of care, whether that’s exercise, enrichment, or simply some calm company. For house sitting, I maintain a steady presence so your pet can stay relaxed in their own space while you’re away. I also take care to keep your home tidy and respected, so you can come back to everything just as you left it.

About: I love meeting and caring for new cats and dogs! I’ve had multiple cats growing up, and currently have a kitten of my own. I have cared for family and friend’s animals while they’re away, and have house-sat for locals who had multiple dogs, cats and chickens! I work at the hospital, typically 8-4pm on weekdays (the odd weekend also), so my visits are largely available for evenings, but am also open to mornings or lunch-time depending on how far away you are. I also love to take myself on daily walks and am happy to have some companionship. When I come over to visit your animal, I have 2 focuses: socializing with your pet, and ensuring their environment is clean and taken care of (including food and water top-ups, litter cleans, etc). I’m also comfortable with administering medications with your instruction.

Cindy stayed for a week in June and house and cat sat for me. I was very pleased with her care for my cat and space. I received daily photos and videos of my cat cuddling and hanging out with her. In coming back to my space it was left just as I had left it, clean and organized! Cindy even took the time and added in some of her own personal details to care by providing some complimentary hand towels. I would absolutely invite Cindy back again to care for my cat and space. Was a pleasure meeting and working with her!

We can’t say enough wonderful things about Kolbi and Andrew—they took such incredible care of our senior dachshund, Glen, while we were away. At 15 years old he needs a little extra patience and love, and they gave him both in abundance, keeping us updated and making sure he felt comfortable and cared for. The biggest testament, though, was when Kolbi left—Glen stood at the door watching after her, already missing them! It’s rare to find people who connect so deeply with your pet, and we’re so grateful for the peace of mind they gave us. Highly recommend!

FAQs for House Sitting - Courtenay

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Courtenay on Rover is $49.95 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 96 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Courtenay. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Courtenay maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Courtenay walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Courtenay choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.

If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
