About: I have done drop ins and had friends/family dogs stay with me for the last 2 years and have owned my own (not anymore) dogs on and off for my whole life A pet lover with time to spare. I currently work 5 hours a day during the week and can provide early morning, afternoon and evening visits. I have a large fenced front and back yard. All animals must be well socialized with children if they are staying here, otherwise I can do drop-ins without children.
“We are so happy to have found Tara to care for our unique crew while we’re out of town. Two of our pets require specialty care, so finding the right person was important to us. Tara went above and beyond to ensure our pets received the best care, so much so that I returned home feeling like I had an actual vacation knowing everyone was happy and healthy. She is a a true animal lover, a cat whisperer, and overall a wonderful and thoughtful person. I was blown away at her dedication to making sure everyone was happy. My husband even joked asking if she was even at our home it was left so clean. 100% would recommend and looking forward to having her over again.”

About: Hello beautiful community, I have several years of hands-on experience caring for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. My experience includes daily walks, overnight sitting, basic grooming, feeding routines, crate training support, and reinforcing positive behavior. I’ve cared for energetic puppies who need structure and stimulation, as well as senior dogs who require patience, gentle handling, and close attention to health needs. I understand that every dog/cat has a unique personality and routine. I take the time to learn each pet’s preferences, triggers, energy level, and comfort zones to ensure they feel safe and secure while their owners are away. Please let me know if you have any questions! I would love to take care of your furry friend & I am happy to do a meet and greet 🤗 I recently moved to Powell River and I have a flexible schedule. I usually work around 5-6 hours a day and 5 days a week. I live in a home and I have a fenced yard with one friendly dog. His name is Douglas and he is very friendly, goofy and affectionate.
About: I have been caring for peoples pets for more than 20 years, I have been a dog trainer for almost as long and I am also a Dogsafe Canine First Aid Instructor. I had a dog walking and pet sitting business for many years, have cared for many types of animals, and have many references available. I also regularly do puppy training lessons around town as well as some puppy training walks/pee breaks for those who have a young or energetic dog and a full time job. I also care deeply about senior dogs and am happy to give walks at their pace and on their schedule. I enjoy being in service to animals, I want to help make their lives better. That enriches mine. I have a flexible schedule at my job on a farm in the summertime, and free time over the winter which I will open up according to my being in town. I am new on here and am not sure if it is all set up right, but all bookings are done by request. I live in Westview. I am confident in looking after your home, your plants, your animals. I have looked after homes and farms, dogs to horses. I am happy to let your puppy or senior dog out for a pee while you are at work, or take your dog for a brisk walk if they need it. I will give your animals the best care I can.

“Christina exceeded all expectations! My boys Charlie and Steez loved her. Great communication and fantastic energy from Christina! Thanks so much for taking great care of them!”

About: Growing up in a home that was never without a dog, I didn’t just learn how to "own" a pet I learned how to truly understand them. My experience spans the entire spectrum of a dog’s life, giving me a unique perspective on the changing needs of your furry family members. I’ve spent years navigating the high-energy chaos of the "puppy phase," which taught me the extreme patience required for consistent house-training, gentle redirection during teething, and the importance of reinforcing basic commands before they become bad habits. I know that a tired puppy is a happy puppy, and I’m always ready to provide the structured play and mental stimulation they crave. At the same time, I have a deep-seated devotion to senior dogs. Having cared for my own family dogs through their golden years, I am intimately familiar with the specialized care they require. I am comfortable assisting with limited mobility, sticking to strict medication schedules, and recognizing the subtle "tells" of discomfort or anxiety that others might miss. Whether it’s helping a dog up the stairs or simply providing a calm, quiet presence for a pet with doggy dementia, I lead with empathy and a slow, steady hand. What truly sets me apart is my ability to read canine body language a skill that only comes from a lifetime of observation. I can distinguish a playful nudge from a stressed out pacing, ensuring your pet feels safe and heard while you’re away. I treat every dog with the same level of care, vigilance, and affection I gave my own childhood companions. My goal is to be a seamless extension of your home routine so that your pet feels secure, loved, and perfectly at ease until you return. I currently work part-time as a cashier, which gives me flexible availability for pet care. I’m generally available Monday through Friday mornings (unless occasionally called into work) and weekend evenings. While I don’t have pets of my own at the moment, I truly enjoy spending time with animals and treat every pet in my care with the same love, attention, and responsibility as if they were my own. I’ve lived with animals for as long as I can remember. Growing up, our house was never empty I was raised alongside cats and dogs of all sizes, and they were a massive part of my daily life. They weren’t just pets to me; they were family. Being around them 24/7 since I was a kid taught me how to read their moods and understand what they need before they even ask for it. As I got older, my love for animals turned into a real commitment to their well being. I started taking in street cats that needed help, often bringing them back from poor health with a lot of patience and care. I’ve also spent time nursing abandoned kittens that required round the clock attention. Doing rescue work like that taught me the un glamorous side of pet care the importance of strict medication schedules, monitoring appetite and behavior for signs of illness, and keeping a sterile, clean environment. One thing anyone who knows me will tell you is that I spoil every animal I’ve ever had.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Powell River
Kilo and Whiskey hung around the front door yesterday after Christina left. I think they were waiting for her to come back. Now that's a tough act to follow! We appreciate the care and attention taken with our funky mix of big and little dogs and shy-guy/girl cats. Pet sitting/housesitting can be a stressful gig for all parties involved. However, after our initial visits I was able to leave for 5 days with the confidence that I had chosen the right person to care for our pets and home. Christina clearly loves animals and approaches this role with the right blend of compassionate care and professional demeanor. We look forward to welcoming Christina to our house again!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Powell River maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Powell River walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Powell River choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
