“Elena was communicative and prompt. She came into the session with ideas about what we needed to change about our daily schedule and skills we can practice. She demonstrated the training skills for us to work on and sent us a very detailed plan after the fact.”

“My friend Sydney helped my puppy Xena learn “go to spot” and practice her “heel” outside. She was patient and rewarded Xena with her favorite treats to help make training easy for her. She did not push her past her limit and left room for her to make the right choice! I would highly recommend Sydney if you’re looking to get your pup trained by someone seasoned and experienced, she is so caring, genuine and just overall wonderful to work with!”

About: I first became interested in dog training when I (unknowingly) adopted a reactive dog. I learned everything I could through classes, research, and meeting other reactive dog owners. I definitely fumbled along the way! I found that rewards-based training methods were the most effective and I’ve since adopted and worked with other dogs with behavioral issues. In 2023, I started volunteering in obedience classes and shadowing other trainers at the MSPCA. In 2025 I began working as a trainer and earned my CCPDT certification

About: I did my dog training certification out of curiosity, pure joy and inner fulfillment that working with dogs brings me. It is incredible to directly observe canine intelligence, shape dogs' behaviour and see the fruits of your labour. Dogs are incredible animals, so perfectly awesome!
“The first session with William went so well, his techniques showed immediate improvement with my dogs behavior and he explained things very intuitively. I look forward to continuing to work with him”

“We had such a great experience working with Kathleen! She gave us incredibly helpful and practical tips for potty training, separation anxiety, and leash walking. The strategies were easy to implement and made a noticeable difference for our pup. Her office hours were especially helpful - being able to check in, ask questions, and tweak things as we went along made the whole process much less stressful. Highly recommend for anyone looking for thoughtful, effective dog training guidance!”

“Bill was great! He was great with our dog, and his approach was thorough and incredibly helpful. Bill took plenty of time to work with our dog directly, answer questions that we have, and come up with a plan moving forward. Highly recommended.”

About: After the end of every session I like to have play time with the dog to show that they did a good job now they can have some fun I’m extremely patient with them, all dogs are different and some just need alittle more patience and time I treat every dog as if they were my own We will have a graduation ceremony for your fur baby after they complete the course!
“James was terrific. He was so patient and calm with my pup Georgie, and a great teacher so I could better understand Georgie’s behavior, and help him to calm down. Thank you, James!”

“Ayat is an amazing trainer! Whether it’s a dog or cat, she knows how to get the job done. I’ve personally seen her train Rajah, and the progress has been incredible from the start. She taught him commands like sit, lay down, and stand, always using positive reinforcement and giving him breaks when needed. She’s patient, calm, loving, and truly treats every animal like her own. What impresses me most is her versatility and willingness to research different training methods to find what works best. Rajah can now perform several commands and even open doors! I highly recommend Ayat.”

“Grace is knowledgeable, kind, communicative and a calming presence for my dog! She taught me and my pup a lot in just one session, leads with positive reinforcement and compassion, and I feel confident that after a few more sessions, my pup will be confident, calm, and ready to take on any challenge, big or small. I highly recommend Grace for doing training!”

“Jenna was super helpful. We are first time dog owners and want the best for our pup. Jenna came to our place for an hour to review our puppy's behavior and give us some pointers. She was fantastic with Winnie right away and so helpful answering all our questions. Definitely will reach out to Jenna again!”

“Jade is an extremely reliable, talented, and natural dog trainer. We have worked with Jade since our dog Bruno was a puppy. Bruno is an anxious pup, and he immediately took to Jade, which is rare! She always treats Bruno with kindness and has incredible patience in helping him become more confident and obedient. Jade also took the time to teach us how to best support Bruno, helping us become better dog parents. We can't recommend Jade enough!”

“My dog is reactive, so it was important to me to find the right trainer with the right level of skill and an approach I agreed with. It was immediately clear to me that Maura is exactly what my dog and I need. Her depth of knowledge is incredible. She effortlessly cites research as she teaches, demonstrating each pointer she provides is not just her personal opinion but based in science. She's a passionate student of dog behavior, on top of her extensive practical experience. She gave me practical exercises and tips which I could immediately put into action and I'm already seeing a positive change in my dog's behavior. Not to mention, she's got a wonderful personality and creates a judgment-free space for learning. My dog agrees - he was snuggled up on the couch with her within about 4 minutes of meeting her. I can't recommend her enough!”

“Laura’s approach to dog training and behavior is a breath of fresh air. Her mix of evidence-based technique and compassion gave me and my partner the information we needed alongside newfound confidence in our ability to rehabilitate unwanted behaviors in our pup, Milton. We would recommend working with Laura to anyone who is seeking a kind, evidence-based trainer, and we greatly look forward to continuing our work with her.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mike trained both of my Yellow Labs, and the results were amazing. Before working with him, I was being dragged around on walks and couldn't get them to heel. Within five minutes, Mike had them walking properly. He made training look simple and taught me the correct techniques and fundamentals to maintain their good behavior. We had previously worked with a terrible trainer and were discouraged, but finding Mike changed everything. My Labs are now the best-behaved dogs I've ever owned. I highly recommend Mike to anyone looking for real results. 🐾”

“Excellent. Showed me ways to use a clicker and treats to reinforce good behavior Also what to do about her jumping up on people. Was very patient with my dog and me! Had suggestions about other ways to stimulate her brain and keep her less bored.”

Dog Training FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Rover
Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in Boston.
Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.
When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.
Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.
Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!
Rover makes it easy to find Boston dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:
- Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
- Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.
Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.
Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.
