Reactive & Difficult Dog Specialist

I specialize in helping dogs struggling with reactivity, resource guarding, fear, anxiety, and conflict between dogs in the same household. These issues can feel overwhelming, but they are often very treatable with the right approach. I focus on identifying the root cause of behavior by evaluating the whole dog; routine, environment, past experiences, and possible medical factors. I also have experience working with shelter dogs and alongside animal control, which has strengthened my ability to safely work with fearful and challenging dogs.

What to expect

Consultation

Consultations typically last about 90 minutes and are designed to identify the root cause of challenging behaviors such as reactivity, fear, or resource guarding. Before the session, you complete an intake form and we schedule a brief call to discuss your concerns. During the consultation, we review your dog’s history, routine, and environment while I observe their behavior. If safe, we may recreate the situation to identify triggers. I then explain the causes, demonstrate exercises, and teach you how to practice them. After, you receive a written training plan, and continued guidance.

Sessions

Typically in your home

Training sessions focus on evaluating your dog’s progress and helping you continue moving forward successfully. We begin by reviewing what exercises you’ve been practicing, what progress you’ve seen, and any challenges you’ve encountered. I then observe you working with your dog so I can refine techniques, correct small mistakes, and evaluate progress. From there, we adjust the plan as needed—sometimes building on existing exercises and other times introducing new ones to keep improvement moving forward.
