About: Hi there! I’m Mel. I’ve had dogs in my life for over 30 years — growing up with Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Border Collies, and Labs, and later caring for high-energy breeds like Huskies, Malamutes, Pit Bulls, and Dobermans as an adult. I’m comfortable with big dogs, strong pullers, and dogs who need real exercise, but I’m just as happy with a Chihuahua curled up on the couch. I spent 8 years as a nanny, so looking after something that depends on you completely isn’t new to me — it’s second nature. I offer house sitting, drop-in visits, and walks. I don’t board dogs in my own home, since I have a resident cat (a very opinionated tabby mix), but I’m experienced with cats too, including Maine Coons and other long-haired breeds, if you need a sitter for feline friends as well. I’ve handled the less glamorous parts of the job without blinking: medication schedules, backyard cleanup, even a dog who met a skunk face-first. My standard for every visit is simple — when you get home, your house should look better than when you left it, and your dog should be fed, exercised, and ready to sleep well. I treat your home and your animal the way I’d want mine treated. I’m self-employed, so my schedule is flexible and mostly built around dog care. I’m generally available 8am–6pm on weekdays, with some days running later. In the summer heat, I keep an eye on pavement temperature and adjust walk times so it’s safe on paws — sometimes that means earlier or later in the day rather than midday. Weekends are available with advance scheduling. I’m also happy to do drop-in visits spaced out over the day or across longer periods if that suits your dog’s routine better than a single visit. Since I don’t board dogs in my own home — I have a resident cat — all my care happens in your space, on your dog’s normal turf, which tends to be less stressful for them than an unfamiliar house. I follow whatever routine you set: meals, meds, walks, exercise. I’m comfortable administering medication, cleaning up after accidents or messes, and handling anything that comes up — I’ve dealt with a dog getting skunked, dogs with high energy who need real exercise, and the everyday logistics of keeping a home running while you’re away. My rule for every visit: your house should look better than when you left it, and your dog should be fed, exercised, and settled by the time you get home.
“Jessica was absolutely amazing and so attentive when stopping by! She came by for a meet and greet and I could tell right away she could get along with any animal & human, very sweet person! My cat Percy loved her and I could tell when I got home that he had been extremely well taken care of. She wrote very nice & long reviews each visit which when on vacation I absolutely LOVE !! Thank you Jessica!”

“This is the 2nd time Scott helps us out with our furbabies & he’s been great! Our babies are not the easiest - especially our recently adopted senior dog & my very squittish cat, but Scott takes good care of them & keeps them clean despite all the accidents. He sends pictures & pupdates with each visit too & also helps me water my plants! 5/5 would recommend! Thanks, Scott!!”

About: Hi! My name is Éowyn, and I'm a Psychology student at the University of California, Irvine. I'm dependable, patient, and absolutely love spending time with animals. If there's a dog or cat at a gathering, you'll probably find me spending time with them! I've been helping care for pets since I was four years old (I am now almost 20). Growing up, I cared for dogs of all sizes and personalities, from Chihuahuas to Huskies and German Shepherds. I also have extensive experience caring for cats and have helped care for 12 cats throughout my lifetime. My pet care experience includes dog walking, feeding, providing fresh water, cleaning up after pets, changing litter boxes, playtime, and making sure every animal receives the attention and affection they need. I understand that every pet has their own personality and routine, and I enjoy getting to know what makes each one special. As a Student Manager in the UC Irvine Anteater Band and an Undergraduate Intern with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, I've developed strong communication, organization, and responsibility skills. Pet owners can count on me to show up on time, follow instructions carefully, and provide dependable care for their pets. I'm an active person who enjoys walking, so whether your dog needs exercise, playtime, or simply companionship while you're away, I'd be happy to help! My goal is to make your pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while giving you peace of mind. I'll keep you updated with photos and messages during every visit because I know how reassuring it is to know your pet is happy and well cared for. I look forward to meeting you and your furry family member! I'm currently only working 16 hours a week, Monday-Thursday, 8am-12pm. Other than this time, I have plenty of time to take care of your furry baby! I'm also relatively free/open on Fridays and weekends. Whether it's morning walks, afternoon drop-in visits, evening playtime, or overnight house sitting, I'm committed to following your pet's routine as closely as possible. I also make it a priority to communicate promptly and keep you updated throughout each visit with photos and messages. Your pet's safety, comfort, and routine are my top priorities. I understand that every pet has unique needs, so I always take the time to learn their routine, personality, dietary needs, and any special instructions before each visit. During walks, I keep dogs securely leashed (unless instructed otherwise in a safe, enclosed area), stay aware of our surroundings, and prioritize their safety at all times. During drop-in visits and house sitting, I'll make sure your pets are fed, have fresh water, receive plenty of attention and exercise, and stick as closely as possible to their normal routine. I also treat every client's home with the same care and respect I would my own. I'll keep your home clean and secure, lock doors and gates, and provide regular photo and message updates so you can relax knowing your pet (and home!) is happy and well cared for. My goal is to build trust with both you and your pet by providing dependable, compassionate care every time.

“Natalie was incredibly kind and accommodating to our two cats and their unique personalities. I would absolutely love to continue working with her in the future!”

“Kaitlyn was wonderful! She put both us and our shy kitties at ease during their first stay home alone. She was prompt, flexible, provided helpful daily updates, and is clearly an animal lover! We definitely hope to work with her again.”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs of all kinds since I was little, growing up with a sheltie dog from when I was born. I have taken care of friends, family and neighbor’s dogs and cats; taking them on walks, feeding them, playing with them and caring for them as if they were my own. Living the past 4 years with a roommates/friends who had an pitbull/husky mix and calico cat I helped out often with care and they became family to me as well. Two years ago I as well, had frequently the pleasure of getting to care for both dogs/cats through rover overnight as well as doing check in feedings. I’m currently working part time so I have the flexibility to play with your pets during the week days and all day on the weekends. I unfortunately don’t currently have the ability to board at my home. I always confirm with the client what the pets schedule may be, any health/behavioral concerns, likes/dislikes, emergency contacts & their local veterinary in case of emergency. Having open communication throughout the service, I feel as well helps so that everyone is on the same page in caring and maintaining the safety of their pet.

“Char is very reliable, conscientious, and communicates well. Our pets are well taken care of when we are gone for a long period of time. We can highly recommend Char if you need somebody to watch your pets even for a long period of time.”
About: I’ve cared for animals for many years, primarily through owning and caring for my own pets, including dogs, cats and reptiles as well as many other small critters. I have experience with both senior dogs and cats. I am comfortable administering daily medications and providing the extra patience and attention they may need. I have also volunteered at my local animal shelter in the past, where I gained hands on experience working with animals of different ages, sizes, and temperaments. I understand that every pet is unique and my goal is to make each one feel safe, comfortable, and loved while they’re in my care. This is currently my full time job so I am available Monday through Saturday, morning or evenings to pop in and take care of your pets! I am happy to follow any and all rules you have set up in your home to care for your pet. Their safety and routine is most important!

About: I have had dogs in my family for my entire life and have been around them for over 30 years. I have a cattle dog Bjorn, and grew up with those, and my cousin has 2 large breed mix dogs that I also love to spend time with. We have 2 cats in our house as well, an orange cat named Fritz and a siamese named Tut. I am currently working part time, and on summer break, so I have lots of time available to assist with feeding and walking dogs currently. I am an experienced walker and have no issues following special instructions to make sure your pup is safe and cared for the way they recognize.

Michelle RULES! She is my go-to sitter ❤️ My kitties really trust her and are comfortable around her. Not only is she thorough with communicating and understanding of my cats’ needs, she’s also flexible with any changes in needs as well! I took my boy Lemon for dental a few days before my booking & he ended up needing some teeth pulled which I was not expecting- he was to only be fed wet food for a while, and was sent home with medication. Poor planning on my part, but I gave a heads up to Michelle and she was more than willing to accommodate these changes with no problems at all. PLEASE give any sitter more notice than I did, but just in case something does happen- Michelle’s got you covered! I’m a chronic worrier and knowing she’s watching over my babies truly puts me at ease. I am grateful to know I can depend on her when I need to leave somewhere! 😻😸😽

Jaclyn took wonderful care of our 2 cats while we were away on vacation. She came a day early for a meet and greet where she made our cats feel really comfortable around her. She had great communication before we left as well as the whole time we were away. Would definitely recommend Jaclyn to anyone looking for cat care!

Jessica was wonderful with my cats! She was reliable, communicative, and took great care of them while I was away. She kept me updated with messages and photos, which gave me a lot of peace of mind knowing they were in good hands. I really appreciated how attentive she was to their needs and would definitely recommend Jessica to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring pet sitter!

Jandy was extremely attentive to our cats while we were away and remembered little things about them that we had shared that seemed to make us being away easier on them! She did a lot more than just clean litters and feed them—the interaction was key to make us feel like our kitties were doing okay without us. She was patient with our cat who can be a cranky to others. 10/10 recommend!

Khaili was great! She was available on short notice and we appreciated the meet and greet. Our cats were kept happy and she did great sending updates, communicating, and following our care instructions. I would highly recommend her and will be booking her to sit our kitties again!

Delaney has been our go to pet sitter for a while now. She is always very responsive in all messaging and takes great photos and notes with updates on how our kitties are doing while she is there. Definitely puts my family at ease knowing that they are so well cared for when we are away.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in West Sacramento. On Rover:

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
