About: 🐾Home-from-Home Boarding - One Dog Family at a Time - Secure Garden - WFH Hi, I'm Maria, and I live with my wife Helen and our teenage sons in the beautiful village of Handcross, near Haywards Heath. I am a fully licensed with Mid Sussex District Council and also hold a DBS Certificate. For many years, our home revolved around our much-loved cockapoo, Sox. After recently saying goodbye to him, we're not quite ready for another dog of our own, but we really miss having a furry companion around the house and would love to share our home, care and affection with your dog. One thing that makes our care a little different is that we only welcome dogs from one family at a time. This means your dog won't have to compete for attention or share their space with lots of unfamiliar dogs. Instead, they'll enjoy a calm, relaxed environment with plenty of one-to-one care and affection. Having cared for Sox from puppyhood through to his senior years, including supporting him with mobility issues and medication, we're experienced in caring for dogs at every stage of life. We're both home during the day, so your dog will rarely be left alone and will enjoy plenty of companionship, attention and love throughout their stay. We know how important it is to feel confident when leaving your dog in someone else's care. That's why we'll take the time to get to know their routine, personality and individual needs, helping them settle in at their own pace. Whether your dog loves long countryside walks and adventures or prefers a cosy spot on the sofa and plenty of cuddles, we'll make sure they feel safe, happy and completely at home. Your dog will have free run of our home and be treated as one of the family, just as Sox always was. We have a secure enclosed garden and are surrounded by beautiful countryside, woodland trails and private estate grounds, offering plenty of opportunities for exercise, enrichment and lots of sniff-filled adventures. We'll also keep you updated with messages and photos during your dog's stay, so you can relax knowing they're happy, settled and being well looked after. We can't wait to meet you and welcome your dog into our home-from-home. 🐾 We’re used to having a dog who enjoyed at least three walks a day, and as we’re both at home, we have plenty of time and flexibility to follow your dog’s usual routine. We offer a calm, safe home from home where your dog is treated like part of the family. Lots of one to one attention without other unfamiliar dogs around 🐾 We would like to keep everything familiar for them, including walks, feeding times, rest and any little extras like medication or special care.
“We secured our booking after a meet & greet where Gin and Laura seemed happy with each other ahead of her full day stay a few days later. Laura was very amenable, flexible and friendly with Gin and us humans. I would be very happy to contact Laura again when I visit my daughter in Hassocks. Thank you for enabling our day trip to London.”

“This is the second visit that Izzy has had with Carolyn and her lovely family. Carolyn was a lifesaver and helped me out with a last-minute request for doggy daycare. Izzy was right at home and is now snuggled up sleeping. Thanks so much 😁🐕”

“Delilah was so accommodating for some last minute care for Woody. He always has such a great time and I know he is so well looked after. Thank you so much for your help!”

“Claire has been amazing! When it comes to our little Pickle we needed to find someone who could provide a chill space and understanding of reactivity. We had a meetup inside Claire's home and then went on a little walk around the area which really settled Pickle and set us up for a great first day care day. Thank you so much for taking amazing care of our little boy, he can't wait to come again 🐶”

“Lauren and her partner were fantastic - inviting me to see their home on arrival, updating me with photos and videos throughout the day and putting our nervous dog at ease quickly. Will 100% use Lauren again, Daisy had such a good day with Maggie! Thank you 🐾”

“Emma was patient with Daisy and allowed her time to work through her nervous ways ! She sent lots of photos and updates which always helps to put my mind at ease. Emma’s dogs were gentle and welcomed Daisy into the pack - will definitely be booking again !”

“Jenny took great care of our little boy! He can be a little nervous and reactive with new people but she was so accommodating, we had a meeting ahead of time where he could check out the house and get to know Jenny and her husband. We then booked in for half a day to ease him in and Jenny managed to fit in a walk and even squeezed in a snooze and a little cuddle before lunch! Thank you for being so understanding of his barking, he can't wait to come again ❤️”

“We had such a lovely experience with Jade! She was really easy to communicate with and kept us in the loop the whole time with regular updates and photos. Pixie clearly had the best time, especially playing with Rex! It was lovely to see how comfortable and settled she was in a new environment. We’d happily recommend her and would definitely book again 😊”

“This was Winnie’s first time being away from us all day and I think she had lots of fun! Candi kept me updated with photos and when we picked her up, she didn’t want to leave. V happy to recommend Candi and will definitely be asking her to look after Winnie again”

Dog owners share their Rover experiences - Mid Sussex
Hollie took great care of our puppy. It was his first experience at daycare, so I was feeling a little nervous, but Hollie kept me updated with pictures and messages on how he settled in. He left with his tail wagging, so that says it all! We’ll definitely book again. 🙏🐾

I couldn't recommend Nada highly enough! She is an experienced and knowledgeable dog carer who genuinely loves what she does. From the moment I met her, I felt completely confident leaving my dog in her care. Before the stay, Nada was incredibly thorough and professional. She shared to me a detailed list of key questions about my dog's routine, personality, preferences, and any special requirements. It was clear she wanted to understand everything needed to make the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, which gave me great confidence from the start. Her home is perfect for dogs, with plenty of indoor space to relax and a secure outdoor area where my dog can play and explore safely. It's a welcoming environment that's clearly been set up with dogs in mind. Throughout my dog's stay, Nada kept me updated with lovely photos and videos, which was so reassuring and a joy to receive. It was obvious my dog was happy, relaxed, and receiving plenty of love and attention. I had complete peace of mind knowing my dog was in such capable hands. I wouldn't hesitate to book with Nada again and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, experienced, and genuinely caring dog sitter.

Luna came back a very happy and thoroughly tuckered-out dog after her lovely day with Emily, Ryan and Dusty. My mind was completely at ease all day knowing she was with them, and I trust them entirely with Luna. Emily and Ryan were also incredibly kind and understanding when we were delayed getting back, which we really appreciated. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them, and Luna would be delighted to spend another day with them!

Harvey had a lovely day with Claire and can’t wait to go back! She took the time to understand our little character and we felt really relaxed leaving him in her capable hands. So lovely to find someone who can provide Harvey such lovely care in a calm environment. Thanks Claire

Your dog’s first day care experience is a big milestone! To help your pup settle in comfortably, we recommend:
- Food and treats portioned for the day, with feeding instructions
- Your dog's lead and collar (ensure tags are up-to-date)
- Any seasonal gear, such as paw-safe wax for winter or a cooling vest for the summer
- Medication, if applicable, with clear dosage notes
- Any special care instructions or training tips to help your sitter provide the most personalised care possible
Tip: Upload this information directly through the Rover app before drop-off. The more context you provide, the better your sitter can tailor the day to your dog.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Sitters in South East England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
