“Lucy was fabulous. Unfortunately I was let down by another sitter 2 days before I was due to go away. Lucy was flexible despite being last minute and she took amazing care of my property and my animals. You could really tell that my dogs felt safe with her. Thank you Lucy.”

“JP took such wonderful care of our two dogs they both settled with her so quickly and enjoyed some beautiful walks during our stay in Durham. It was such a relief for us to know that they were being so well cared for whilst we went out during the day exploring and spending time away from them during our weekend away. We are planning to come back again in a few months and will definitely be rebooking if we bring the dogs back with us again. Thank you so much xx”

“Sophie was amazing, using Rover for the first time & not having ever left my 2 border terriers overnight at home before was something I’d wanted to do for ages but hadn’t been able to pluck up the courage ! Sophie was so thoughtful, easing my worries about my nervous border by taking time to come & meet them before the house sit which was invaluable. On the day, her calm professional approach resulted in her building a relationship with my nervous border which I am so grateful for & is really beneficial for the future. Thank you so much Sophie I now feel relaxed about planning the next house sit & am looking forward to leaving my dogs in safe hands again”

About: As a lifelong animal lover, I've had the joy of owning dogs for the past 17 years, most recently my beloved dog, Bonnie, who sadly passed away at the age of 16. Caring for Bonnie gave me years of hands-on experience and a deep understanding of dogs' individual personalities, needs, and routines. While I miss her every day, I'd love the opportunity to spend time caring for other people's pets. Over the years, I've regularly looked after dogs and cats for family and friends, caring for pets of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Whether it's energetic walks, playtime, feeding, sticking to their usual routine, or simply providing companionship and cuddles, I treat every pet as if they were my own. I understand how important it is to leave your pet with someone you can trust. I am reliable, patient, caring, and committed to making sure your pets feel safe, happy, and loved while you're away. Whether you need a dog walker, pet sitter, or someone to pop in for visits, I'd be delighted to help and look forward to meeting you and your furry family members. I'm currently working full-time, so my availability is as follows: * **Monday & Tuesday:** Available after **6:00 pm** for evening walks, drop-in visits, or pet sitting. * **Friday:** I finish work at **3:30 pm** and am available from **4:00 pm** onwards. * **Weekends:** I'm available all day on Saturdays and Sundays, making me flexible for walks, drop-in visits, or overnight pet sitting. I'm happy to discuss your pet's needs and will always do my best to accommodate your schedule where possible. I care for every pet as if they were my own, making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved. In a pet owner's home, I follow their usual routines, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, medication needs (if required), and giving them plenty of attention and companionship. I understand that pets feel most comfortable in familiar surroundings, so I take the time to build trust and make sure they feel relaxed while their owners are away. I also provide regular updates and photos so owners can feel reassured that their pets are happy and well cared for. I am happy to care for dogs and cats of all sizes and personalities, and I always adapt my approach to suit each individual pet's needs.
“Jamie is absolutely brilliant! He is absolutely the calm, caring, confident person you wanting to be leaving your fur-baby with, so Milo understandably took to him straight away. Jamie took such good care of Milo and we couldn't recommend him enough. We hope to rebook Jamie for lots more days with Milo in the future, because we know Milo would love to see him again.”

“Nicole is really lovely and clearly loves animals, I would recommend her to anyone 🙂 we felt really chilled out on our weekend away knowing that she was looking after our dogs. I will definitely book her again in future, thank you again!”

“5*++ I was so anxious to leave my puppy but Jeanette made me feel at ease from the moment we had our meet and greet. Coco had a lovely time with her and it was really nice to get regular updates whilst away. Coco already looking forward to her next mini break with Jeanette when we go away again at the end of the year!”

“Paris was absolutely amazing! I was given regular updates every day, I felt really relieved knowing Monty was being looked after so well, and I’d recommend Paris’s services to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, reliable and caring. Paris came to meet Monty before the sit and really took the time to understand his routine, and my home was immaculate when I came back. It was clear Monty had the time of his life while I was away! Thank you, Paris! :) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟”

“Louise was fantastic! She made an instant connection with Terri, which immediately put us at ease. As it was our first time using a puppy sitter service, we really appreciated how friendly, professional and experienced she was. Louise kept us updated with regular messages and photos while we were out, which was so reassuring. We couldn’t have asked for a better first experience and would highly recommend her. Thank you so much, Louise!”

“Ella has been absolutely brilliant at dog and house sitting for us. Ella is really communicative and friendly, and we know Bilbo always has an amazing time with her. We'd definitely recommend contacting Ella!”

“Renee has a very calm presence about her which our animals responded so well to. She did an amazing job looking after them and keeping us up to date. We also appreciated her flexibility and kindness.”

“Shane was fantastic, we had been let down last minute by our dog sitter so we turned to rover and found Shane. we done a meet and greet and was rather nervous about having a stranger come to stay and watch our fur baby but Shane set our minds at ease. He gave us all the information we needed as we’d never used rover before. We were sent regular updates and loads of pictures. We came home and Nelly was so happy and seemed happier than when we had after her with our usual dog sitter. We will definitely be looking to use Shane again. He is a superstar.”

“Volume looked after my two older dogs for the weekend. She was professional from the first meeting and the dogs were well looked after and happy and settled with her. She took great care of our house too. Would highly recommend.”
“Would 100% recommend. Was really comfortable leaving my rolo for 4 nights. I got daily updates with photos and rolo was really well looked after and was even spoilt with loads of treats . Would definitely book again came back to a happy healthy dog”

“What can I say about the wonderful Craig. Absolutely rescued us by looking after our two dogs during our wedding. One dog is particularly difficult as he has epilepsy, so there’s always the fear of seizures and vet’s trip. Craig accepted to help us when others wouldn’t and we’re so grateful he did. The boys were so well looked after and so happy when we seen them. Craig knew we wanted them to be at the wedding so tried to get some pics in bow ties for us, bought us a wedding card and even helped us to carry some stuff in when we returned. Honestly I can’t praise or thank him enough. Definitely he using Craig again ❤️❤️”

TJ was fantastic. Yukon had a great vacation with her. We got lots of photos. He was looked after during a heatwave and barely left alone at all while we were away. He can be a crazy puppy so it's not easy going but TJ was so great!! Would highly recommend to anyone.

Debs and Dave are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. From the moment they first came to (meet and greet) us I knew my fur babies were in safe hands. With regular photos and videos of the 3 cats obviously enjoying themselves, my home was looked after and respected too. We can’t wait for them to come back!! See you soon many thanks and lots of purrs from us all xx

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in County Durham choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
