I have lost count of how many times Sadie has stayed with Anthony, she is always very happy to see him and stay there. Sadie has a great time and is well looked after . Thank you Anthony, that’s the second time this month you have had her, I didn’t get the chance to say thanks for the beginning of the month.

Brilliant, cannot recommend Ella-Marie enough. Reliable, responsive, and accommodating. Our two dogs were extremely well cared for, they came back very happy and lovely they had a little holiday themselves whilst we were away. Excellent updates including pictures and a video. Pick up and drop off service was excellent also! Will definitely use again. Thank you so much Ella-Marie.

Liam and Hannah were amazing. I felt at ease dropping off my extremely young puppy for the very first time for a night away. Liam sent me photos and assured me that my baby was having a good time. If we are in their neck of the woods again and in need then I will definitely be in contact again. Thank you so much for taking care of my baby, 🐶

I have just collected Percy after a week with Georgia and family, and I dont think he wanted to come home. He was welcomed into their house like an old friend and we can tell he's had a great time. We were kept updated throughout his stay and we were also sent plenty of photos, which is always reassuring. We would recommend Georgia to anyone who is looking for sitting or boarding, and would not hesitate to book Percy in again.

Cecil had a lovely time at Ruth’s while I was away, and didn’t want to leave! He’s only 5 months old and pretty full on, with separation anxiety - so I was worried about leaving him, but Ruth is so calm and reassuring - and I'm now really relieved I’ve found somewhere he can stay without me worrying about him. Cecil’s looking forward to his next stay!

What can we say about Emma?... She is so lovely and so confident making us feel at ease straight away leaving our two babies (1 is 11 Yr old and the other a pup 5mths old) for the first time. She sent us regular photos so we could see what they were doing which was brilliant. We love her and will be using Emma on a regular basis. When we went to pick them up they didn't want to leave as they were enjoying themselves so much. Thankyou Emma you made it so easy for us to relax and know they were being so well looked after and happy. xxxxx

She provided plenty of updates to put us at ease. We'll be using Charlotte again for a holiday later this year. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

5* doesn’t quite seem enough! If I could give 10* I would. I’ve just picked up my nearly 18yr old terrier, for her stay at Wendy’s and I was greeted by a very happy and contented little dog. The care that Wendy gave was nothing more than supreme. With my little dog being an older age, it can be difficult finding someone and leaving her with them, but on my meet and great with Wendy, I knew I had nothing to worry about. Throughout the sit Wendy kept me updated and I could clearly see my little dog was happy with Wendy. Thank you Wendy for caring for Betty as if she was your own, and giving me such peace of mind.

I honestly don’t know what I would have done without Jenny ! She stepped in and rescued my beloved Elton when things didn’t go as planned at his original boarding place. From the moment she took him in, I could tell he was in the most caring, loving hands. She not only kept him safe, but gave him 29 days filled with joy, fun, and affection. She treated him like family, gave me regular updates that put my mind at ease, and went above and beyond to make sure he was happy, healthy, and comfortable the whole time I was away. I’ll always be grateful for the care, kindness, and warmth she showed both of us. Thank you for turning a stressful situation into something so positive. Elton came back happy, relaxed, and full of tail wags—and I know he’ll be thrilled to see you again in the future!

My 2 girls have just spent the week with Eva and to be honest I don’t think they wanted to come home! They had a great time, long walks in the fields and lots of cuddles and care when at home. Daily updates and photos were a comfort and confirmed they were being exceptionally cared for. I have already rebooked with Eva for a future holiday!!

I would highly recommend Emily she was amazing with our fur baby Marler, gave him lots of love, attention and super walks 2 sometimes 3 times a day. Marler and I had a lovely pre-meeting and walk with Emily and her dog Archie and from the moment I met Emily I felt Marler woukd be happy and safe with her. Whilst we were away we got daily updates and pictures and just knowing our boy was having a wonderful time allowed us to relax and enjoy our weekend away. We cannot thank Emily enough for taking care of Marler x

Enzo had a great time staying with Ben and Kayleigh and of course Ruby. They were fantastic with communication and understanding when times switched up late in the day. Cariana is such a lovely gentle person I felt so confident leaving Bramble with her. She was so kind and appreciative of the fact that I was anxious about leaving my dog after a really bad experience with another sitter some years ago. Bramble had a lovely stay and was very well cared for and had tons of fuss and attention. I had regular pup - dates and lots of photos which put me at ease. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Cariana.

FAQs for Dog Boarding - County Durham

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Dog Boarding in County Durham on Rover is £31.06 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Dog Boarding easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Dog Boarding. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of June 2026, there are 537 sitters on Rover offering Dog Boarding across County Durham. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in North East England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
