“Wendy is very caring with Frankie as he is a needy dog. He is very relaxed with Wendy which is good to know. Wendy sends us photos so we can see Frankie in her care and he always looks happy.”

“Dodger had a lovely stay with Jackie! Jackie was caring, very attentive and her own dog Oreo was the perfect host. Lovely lady! Dodger was a very happy pooch so would definitely book again!”

“It's always a pleasure to book with Zoe. Very easy & straightforward process. We always get lots of photos & videos to show how our little darling is getting on. Kobi very much likes staying with Zoe.”

“Carolyn is a lovely lady. Marley was well looked after. He was taken on lots of nice walks. She updated me every few days of my trip. I didn't feel at all anxious as I have done sometimes in the past leaving my dog with other people. She has had a lot of experience with dogs. I will definitely choose Carolyn again in the future to take care of Marley. Marley had such a good time he jumped in the back of her car when she dropped him off. I can highly recommend Carolyn.”

“Anthony has been brilliant and professional from the start, doing a proper meet and greet and keeping us updated the whole time about Goldie's welfare. We can't thank him enough for looking after our little girl and giving us a chance to spend some quality time away. Thanks again and all the best”

“Ana looked after our lively Labrador as if she were her own, thoughtful in planning and kept us up informed how she was to calm an anxious dog owner ! She had a great time and forgot who we are, she has a new family 🤣 already booked again thank you so much”

“First time stay over for our boys, we did not need to worry, our boys were well taken care of. Really good communication to let us know they had settled in well, slept all night, and had their toast for breakfast 😀 no worries at all. Thank you 💚 🐾 🐾”

“Joey was well cared for and came back happy and healthy. Communication was great throughout and will definitely book again in the near future. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for Sitters.”

“Vera was the first person I left Flapjack with, outside of the family - I was a little nervous! I had no need to be. She took really good care of him and sent me pictures every day. It was a real home from home for him. I will definitely use this service again. Thank you, Vera.”

“Rebecca was absolutely fantastic. I cannot recommend her enough. She was very thorough in the meet and greet and asked lots of questions about Maisie’s care. She allowed me to view her home so I could see where Maisie would be staying and Maisie fell in love with the garden and their wonderful dog. Throughout the booking I have received lots of updates with messages, photos and videos. I have never left Maisie before in a kennel or a strangers home so this was something I was nervous about. However, I felt at ease straight away seeing how comfortable and happy she looked. Seems like Maisie has found a second home! Cannot thank you enough!”

“Lyudmila has been professional though out Dizzie stay with message also pictures and walks . Lyudmila listened to Dizzie when she’s needed go to the toilet also for her walks . Nothing was a problem to Lyudmila she made me so comfortable for Dizzie to stay at her lovely home . Also it’s home to home for Dizzie . I will be booking again for Dizzie at Lyudmila .”

“Stephen took great care of Missy and kept me updated with messages and photos. She was very relaxed from dropping her off to picking her up. Already booked for a longer stay, highly recommended”

“Eva was the first person outside of my immediate family to look after Otis, so I was a little nervous ahead of booking. Eva offered a meet up and it was very reassuring to see her home and she immediately put me at ease. Otis had a great couple of days with her - he particularly enjoyed her wonderful garden; exploring it kept him very entertained! Eva provided regular updates and sent photos, which were much appreciated. She was very patient with him when he was a little apprehensive of her stairs (the stairs are fine - he is just a little scared of stairs in general!). She took great care of him and followed our routines at home. I would not hesitate to use Eva again and would highly recommend her to others (especially those who are a little apprehensive about leaving their previous pup!).”

“James was fantastic with Buddy and made him welcome in his home and like one of the family. Communication throughout was excellent and we felt reassured Buddy was in good hands. Definitely would recommend”

“Blu has had the most amazing long weekend with Georgia and her family! He was treat as one of her own pets and given so much love throughout his stay! I was kept updated all weekend with photos and videos and it was clear to see how much Blu was well cared for. I would recommend Georgia 10/10, it felt like he went from home to home and Blu cannot wait for his next stay :) thank you so so much! Xxx”

“Biscuit's initial stay was a trial run for when he's left longer. Liam, Hannah and Beau were absolutely brilliant with our little Biscuit. We had some nerves with Biscuit being newly rehomed to us and still just finding himself, but we needn't have, within 15 minutes of leaving we had a photo of Biscuit cuddled up to Hannah. We had plenty of updates and nothing was a bother when we messaged Liam, even when we forgot to send Biscuit's rain jacket and towel. We have no worries about leaving him with Liam, Hannah and Beau again in a few weeks :)”

“Katherine was amazing with Charlie. I felt at rest as soon as I met her, she send me photos and videos and when I picked up Charlie he didn’t want to come back 🙂🙂 Will definitely book again and very pleased with the service Thank you”

Dog owners share their Rover experiences - Hartlepool
Amazing service. My sighthounds were overly excited at first but sharp settled. They loved it. If they could speak I'm sure they would say it was a pawsitively experience. Great communication and very friendly. Dogs loved the walks and attention they received. Would highly recommend. Thank you.

First time Kay has minded Stanley. Never seen him so happy after being left with someone he didn't know. Lots of photos of Stanley which was brilliant, during his stay. Lovely big garden and a very welcoming home. Already booked with Kay again. Would hugely recommend.

So before we met kay we were really unsure about leaving our boy reggie for a week while we went on a family holiday. Myself and my mrs and reggie went to meet kay and her partner at her home and straight from the start she put us at ease.. our reggie loved being around kay instantly and that was lovely to see. While on holiday kay has sent us daily updates and that was lovely as we could see he was very loved and cared for. I would recommend kay to anyone and we will definitely be using her again to care for our reggie. What a lovely family.

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.
When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:
- Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
- Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
- Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
- Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates
Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Sitters in North East England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
