Alana was fantastic with our little boy Geno. He has a bit of anxiety and she was extremely kind and patient with him. She sent us several updates and it was obvious she really cared and wanted Geno to be happy and comfortable. We will definitely book with Alana again!

Nicola was so welcoming! She arranged to meet us before we confirmed if we were comfortable booking with her, where she allowed us into her home with our a dog so we could see the space for ourselves. She was so kind and caring for our dog who was only staying away from us for the 2nd time. She sent constant photos of him being happy during his stay and even went out of her way to take him to the river. We couldn't recommend her enough and she will always be an option for us going forward if we are ever in need of a sitter again. Thank you Nicola for making our Arnie feel at home

About: My name is Jen and my partner is Adam. We are both dog and cat lovers, and love looking after our friends and families pets when they go on holiday (which has even extended to a tortoise). Jen works from home and can take care of your pet throughout the day, so that your pet is never left alone. We love going on lots of walks and adventures at the weekend. We have experience taking care of animals from a range of backgrounds and with differing needs, including rescue dogs, puppies, or animals with anxiety. I work from home during the week and have a morning walk before work, at lunch time and after work, so I can bring your pet along with me on the walks. I am also flexible and if your pet requires more or fewer walks per day, I will adapt my schedule accordingly. I live with my partner Adam and we do not have any pets, so your pet would be the only one in the house. We have a fenced garden and plenty of space around the house for your pet to roam freely.

Elizabeth looked after my 2 year old dachshund over night & he absolutely loved it. They are great sitters and looked after him quite short notice. I was updated on how he was doing with a photo and he had a blast playing with Bailey! Would recommend Elizabeth to anyone looking for a great pet sitter to leave your fur baby with! x

About: I've always loved dogs and rescued my own dog in Spain over 2 years ago. I have first-hand experience of building trust, patience and creating a safe, loving environment. As a primary school teacher, a nurturing approach to little personalities comes naturally to me. 🐾 Your dog's safety and wellbeing will always be my priority. I'll care for your dog as if they were my own and keep you updated with plenty of photos and messages, so you can relax knowing they're in safe and loving hands. 🫶🏽🐾 📅I have availability for dog walking in the evenings and at weekends. I will always do my best to align my availability to your schedule.🐾 🏡 I can offer drop-ins tailored to you to check in on your fur baby while you are away, making sure they are safe and happy. 🕐30 minute walks can be on 1:1 basis, or if you prefer your dog to have some socialisation and play time, my own friendly dog can join us. 🐕‍🦺 These walks can take place in your local area, nearby woodlands or nearby parks. 🕐For 60-minute walks, and with your permission, your dog will join me on suitable fun-filled adventures further afield🚗. Please note that my own friendly, well-socialised dog will always accompany 60 minute walks, so this option is best suited to dogs who enjoy the company of other dogs. 🐕‍🦺🦮 🏡Your dog can board in my home at weekends. They will be treated as part of the family. My own dog is friendly and very energetic/playful. He is willing to share his home with other loving dogs. When dogs stay with me, you can count on an adventure - hiking, forest walks, trips to the beach etc.🌳🌊 I also have a fenced, medium-sized garden, so the dogs will get plenty of opportunities for toilet breaks and outdoor play throughout the day. Your dog's safety and wellbeing will always come first. I have an enhanced DBS check through my role in education, so you can feel confident welcoming me into your home. I'll follow your instructions carefully, respect your home, and stick to your dog's usual routine.

We’ve had a fantastic experience with Emily. She looked after our Olde Tyme Bulldog while we were away and it gave us real peace of mind. We especially appreciated the regular updates and photos she sent through, it was lovely to see how happy our dog was in her care. Communication was excellent throughout, and it’s clear she genuinely cares about the animals she looks after. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, thoughtful, and attentive dog sitter. We’ll definitely be booking again!

Alice and her family were lovely and welcoming when we took Bronson round to meet them. She clearly loves dogs and wanted to know as much about his routine as possible so she could keep it the same. Bronson came home happy and tired. I would not hesitate to leave Bronson with Alicecagain and I would recommend her to anyone. Thanks Alice

My boy Charlie spent 2 days with Alana while I was away with work. We had a meet and greet beforehand to make sure the dogs got on well together. Then I dropped Charlie off for his stay and I was pleased to receive updates letting me know how he was getting on and photos to show he was enjoying himself! Alana was friendly and easy to communicate with. I’d definitely recommend!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Dog Boarding in Darlington on Rover is £34.5 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Dog Boarding easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Dog Boarding. For more information on service fees, click here .

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in North East England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
