Georgia looked after our cockapoo puppy, Milo, for two days and we couldn't have asked for anyone better! It was the first time we'd ever left him, and she couldn't have made us feel more at ease. She kept us updated throughout with pictures, which was so reassuring, and it was clear Milo had the best time with Otis and Barney – it was like a little holiday for him! Georgia is so kind and caring, and we'll definitely be booking with her again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her!

We couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! From the moment we met, we knew Nemo was in loving and capable hands. We got regular updates, adorable photos, and total peace of mind while we were away. Our dog came home happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. We’re so grateful and will absolutely book again. Highly recommend!

Really attentive to Jax's needs and quirks. Very informative about their processes which made a 1st time user alot happier. Jax had a fantastic time and the photos sent to us meant the kids didn't feel like they were missing him which was a HUGE bonus. Thank you so much and we will definitely use again.

About: Ever since my fur baby passed away last year I’ve so missed having a dog around. I love all breeds of dogs, having owned German Shepherds and previously been boarding a Cane Corso, large breeds are welcome here❤️ I work full time, however my early mornings (before 7.15am) or my evenings after 4pm are always free. I typically have a Monday off of work and free all day then, I can board dogs Sunday (after work), overnight and all day Monday. I will have more flexibility in June - being able to board for days/weeks at a time. I have an enclosed front and back garden, with the back garden having high fences, I have back patio doors to allow the dog to come freely in and out of the house. Your pet can treat my home like their home, I want them to feel comfortable with me and enjoy their time here. Whether that be snuggled up together on the sofa or giving them their own space wherever they prefer.

Bella loved her stay with Sarah, in so much she's seems a bit down not to still be with her. We went away for a week and Sarah kept us up to date with daily photos and messages which showed bella having a great time . Friendly and helpful throughout Sarah let Bella have the run of the house and looked after her brilliantly. We will definitely use Sarah again and some of our friends have already made inquiries about they dogs. Many , many thanks to Sarah for a professional and smooth weeks stay .

Charlotte was absolutely amazing with Max, and I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. She took the time to arrange pre-visits to make sure she was the right fit for him, which meant so much to me as I was quite nervous about leaving him with someone we didn’t know while I was in London. While Max was in her care, Charlotte sent lots of messages and photos, constantly reassuring me that he was happy, comfortable, and very well looked after. It gave me such peace of mind while I was away. I could tell Max was genuinely cared for, not just looked after. We will 100% be using Charlotte again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, kind, and attentive dog sitter. Thank you again ☺️ xx

Really happy with the way Rebecca looked after our Reuben. He’s a proper family pet so wouldn’t have settled in a kennels. With Rebecca it felt like he was just i seamlessly transferred from one loving family home into another. Looking to book another stay.

Steve and his family took great care of Sarge, my silver lab. It was quite last minute but Steve was more than happy to meet beforehand so that I could meet the family and see where Sarge would be staying for the night. I received plenty of updates, sarge settled in straight away and loved his little holiday! Will definitely be booking Steve again knowing that Sarge was happy there.

FAQs for Boarding - Sunderland

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Dog Boarding in Sunderland on Rover is £34.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Dog Boarding easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Dog Boarding. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 499 sitters on Rover offering Dog Boarding across Sunderland. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in North East England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
