Mary and her family were absolutely great with Kylo. Nothing was a problem. Kept me updated on how he was doing and sent me some great pictures. Really put my mind at rest. They said they would have him back anytime which is a bonus. I will definitely be using Mary's services again. Thank you. Xx

The most responsible and understanding friend that Toby has stayed with. We loved the regular updates and photos. Toby made himself right at home and Kirsty knew exactly how to care for our 10 year old Toby. We felt comfortable and relaxed knowing that Toby was in great hands. Now he’s sad he’s back at home and not at Kirsty’s house with all his newly found Toys!. Many’s Thanks! Phil, Izzy & Toby

About: As proud owners of our own wire-haired dachshund Gus, we know just how much our dogs mean to us. We offer plenty of love, attention, walks and cuddles in a safe and caring home. Every dog is treated like part of our family, and we will keep you updated with photos and messages so you can relax whilst you’re away. Both myself and my wife are able to work from home during the week on regular basis, as pet care is a priority with our own dog. Therefore, if caring for your dog we would ensure someone would be able to care for them every day. I have a fenced garden with plenty space for your dog to run around and play with our own dog. If necessary or preferred our own dog was crate trained and slept in a crate until very recently. Any visits to check on dogs will be done at times best suited to individual dogs and walks/play time will always be p provided. We have done this regularly for dogs in our own families.

We were really happy to leave our Irish Terrier with Ros and Charles and will happily do so again. Their knowledge and understanding of dogs shines through and they were very happy to discuss Pogues needs/quirks with us in detail. Pogue came home very happy and relaxed. Playing chase with Ros and relaxing with Charles clearly suited him!

Erin and Alex were incredible with Tec; caring, lovely and excellent communicators. I'll definitely be asking for help when I need a sitter again. I was especially grateful for the brilliant updates and time Erin and Alex took to meet, greet and later make sure Tec settled and was comfortable. Would recommend

Anna and Jorge took great care of Floyd. They sent an update daily and posted little videos which was very reassuring. And Floyd must have been very contented with them as I dont think he wanted to come home when I went to pick him up!

Once again, we were delighted to be able to leave Jack in Andrew's capable hands. The pair of them had a great time, and we got lots of photos and regular updates. Andrew takes time to understand dogs' quirks & foibles (very important for Jack - he's got a few...!!!), and builds his plan accordingly. He made sure we were comfortable with what he was proposing to do over the weekend, which was very reassuring. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Andrew, and we'll be booking Jack in again soon!

Larissa was an absolute lifesaver! We needed someone to look after our dog, Bailey, on extremely short notice, and she stepped up without missing a beat. From the moment we dropped Bailey off, Larissa put all our last-minute worries completely to rest. She kept us updated with lovely photo updates and treated Bailey just like one of her own. He came home relaxed, thoroughly spoilt, and as happy as could be! We are so grateful for how warm, accommodating, and flexible Larissa was with such a late booking. I couldn't recommend her enough to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring dog sitter.

Our Clive was sad to leave! He had the best time and I felt really at ease meeting beforehand for our first rover experience. Clive needs a lot of training and hands on as he’s currently in adolescence and can be very mischievous but Jessica was brilliant with him. Regular updates were really helpful to keep my mind at ease during the stay. Thank you both so much ♥️

Great sitter. Looked after our dog during this week when there was a heat wave and made sure he was well cared for, kept cool but still taken on walks at the cooler parts of the day. Lots of pictures and updates to show that he was happy and cared for. Would definitely recommend. And would rebook for ourselves.

Julie catered to our dog Coopers every need. He’s a bit of a stubborn old dog, that require some special attention. We had regular updates on the days activities and Coops seemed to be very comfortable and relaxed on his holiday. Can’t recommend Julie highly enough and I’m sure Cooper will be excited to go back for more walks and cuddles

Lauren has looked after our two staffies twice now and we couldn’t happier with the level of care. She’s brilliant at sending regular updates and great at wrangling our big bundles of energy. We can tell how much our girls love staying because this time when we dropped them off they ran to the front door!

I felt confident with Lindsey taking our Vizsla Frankie away for the day. She was lovely with her and asked what Frankie needed during her stay. I was delighted to receive photos of Frankie during the day reassuring me that she was ok. I would recommend Lindsey to look after any dog and will be using her again if she’ll have Frankie (our young and energetic dog) again.

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in North East England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
