“It was really reassuring to have Eva looking after Hamish at home while we enjoyed a day out. She kept us updated and took Hamish for a long walk. Everything was in perfect order when we got home.”

“Maya was absolutely great. This was the first time I’d had a sitter stay in my home whilst I was away. Maya kept me up to date with regular photos and messages. The dogs loved her and she looked after them like her own. I definitely recommend Maya.”

“Emily came over and stayed in our house whilst I went away for a few nights, she made sure Winnie’s routine was the same and kept me posted with walks, pictures and just reassurance that Winnie was okay. Honestly couldn’t recommend enough!”

“As we were a little apprehensive about leaving Tiny our Frenchie, we arranged a meet and greet with Corinne. From first meeting her we knew we had made the right choice. She put both ourselves and Tiny at ease. We were away for 10 days and received daily updates and lots and lots of photos which we really appreciated. As we weren't due back till the early hours Corinne stayed with Tiny As long as she could before leaving. When we arrived home it was obvious that Tiny had been really well looked after and the house was left spotless. Corinne was a god send and a lovely lady. I would recommend her 100% to anyone who needs a pet looking after. She even made sure that we had milk in for a proper cuppa when we got home. How thoughtful.”

“First time anxiously leaving our Mack with a dog sitter. How lucky we got finding Pablo. What a gent who genuinely had Mack’s best interests at heart. Listened to everything we said about his behaviours and both seemed to enjoy one another’s company. Confidently let him explore off lead in on his favourite walks. We both felt 💯 confident that Mack was safe and well. When he said he would look after him like his own, he truly did. Couldn’t be happier with Pablo and highly recommend. Thanks Pablo. You’re a Star 🌟”

“Louise was fantastic! She made an instant connection with Terri, which immediately put us at ease. As it was our first time using a puppy sitter service, we really appreciated how friendly, professional and experienced she was. Louise kept us updated with regular messages and photos while we were out, which was so reassuring. We couldn’t have asked for a better first experience and would highly recommend her. Thank you so much, Louise!”

“Lucy stayed at my home and looked after my two dogs while I went away. She was amazing and kept me updated on how things were going and answered messages quickly. I would definitely recommend Lucy to anyone. She is amazing. Thank you so much.”

“Jessica was a fantastic dog sitter. I felt really at ease knowing my dog was left in such capable hands. She sent regular updates, asked questions rather than just guessing, and truly cared for my dog. I would certainly recommend!”

About: Hello! I'm Oscar, I'm 36 years old, and I love animals! That's why I'm here! I am also a volunteer carer at the Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter, so I am more than comfortable around any pet and will be able to attend to your pets' needs. My cats, Nala and Marie, are everything to me. They're both rescued cats from the streets. They're house cats but they do enjoy some outdoor time, we love to take them out on leads to have a little walk on the porch or back garden. I know what I'd want from someone looking after my girls, and always try to do the best for others peoples' pets!
“Renee has a very calm presence about her which our animals responded so well to. She did an amazing job looking after them and keeping us up to date. We also appreciated her flexibility and kindness.”

“Olivia recently stayed at our home and looked after our very energetic needy Labrador Oreo. We instantly felt at ease leaving Oreo with Olivia, she has great knowledge in looking after dogs and Oreo fell in love with her straight away, we will definitely use Olivia again in the future! Thanks again Olivia”

About: I love looking after dogs and am always the go to dog sitter out of all my friends. I have been a dog owner myself, and love caring for dogs. I love all animals, and I'm happy to do drop-ins for any type of animal - other than spiders, I'm terrified of them! I work full time from home so will have lots of availability to support during the week and I am around on some weekends too. I have a fenced garden that is very secure so the dogs will have lots of opportunity to go outside. Adult only home with no other animals.
“Rachel has been great. Our dog is especially nervous and she made great effort to settle her down and be patient in building a relationship with her. Will 100% be sticking with her.”

“Ben was fantastic, taking time to visit a couple of days before the booking to give Milo a chance to get to know him. On the day he did everything we hoped, including giving Milo a long walk, sending photos and keeping us updated. If, like us, you are nervous about leaving your dog with someone you don't know, I highly recommend giving Ben a try - you won't regret it.”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred Northumberland walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Northumberland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
