“I was absolutely over the moon with the level of care and attention my cat Charlie received from Ella-Marie. It’s clear that she is well experienced in animal care and I have no doubt in my mind she made Charlie feel comfortable. Leaving him when I go away is always the hardest part and it really helps my peace of mind to know he’s in good hands. Additionally, the photos are an added bonus and much appreciated. I’d definitely recommend Ella-Marie and would gladly use her services again.”

“Lucy was absolutely brilliant. She went above and beyond in making sure our very fussy, very anxious cats were looked after and supported, and they absolutely loved her - she paid careful attention to all instructions and followed them to the letter, checked in with me frequently about food and toilet habits, and was utterly diligent in ensuring everything was exactly the way it needed to be. We know who to ask to catsit next time we go away! Thanks so much Lucy, you are absolutely fantastic ❤️”

“Ella is very reliable, communicative, and diligent. She took time to bond with my cat, and followed all instructions for her care dutifully. Her reports were detailed and reassuring, and allowed me to relax. She’s just the type of person you want looking after your pet! Thanks Ella! 🙂🙏🏼”

“First time using Sam and was a bit nervous as never left our cats before with anyone but family. Found him to be a lovely genuine guy with a love for animals. He kept us well informed of his visits and sent us photos which made us rest easy. On returning home cats were fine, like we’d never been away so very very happy with the service and will defo use Sam in the future, many thanks ☺️”

About: I had a cocker spaniel until recently but unfortunately she had to be rehomed. I love dogs and grew up with them. I live alone in a nice estate surrounded by great dog walks. I work full time Monday -Friday but weekends and evenings are free and I have some Mondays and Fridays off. I can also work from home during the week so weekdays for daycare are also a possibility. Enclosed back garden and your dog would have full use of my house, or whatever rules you want in place. I’m a dog lover and I would love to have the company of your pet. I have some Mondays and Fridays off. I generally work 8-4pm Monday - Friday but I can work from home and my evenings and weekends are free. I have a rear enclosed garden with a 6ft high fence, grass and paved area with plenty of plants and greenery. It’s not a huge garden but enough for your pet to have a little run around. I would want the dog to be happy and in my company with plenty of walks, cuddles, sitting beside me etc.
“Thank you so much for looking after our cat. We’ve came home to a happy cat and a clean house. With clear communication and pictures throughout so we knew we didn’t have to worry. We will definitely look to book again in future if needed. 🙂”

“Louise does a fantastic job looking after our group of cats. She keeps us well informed and responds promptly, giving us real peace of mind while we are abroad. She also sends plenty of joyful videos and photos, which we truly appreciate.”

About: A happy hello, we're Debbie and Dave, dog lovers and cat cuddlers. We've 40+ FIVE STAR reviews on another pet sitting platform (just ask for a link). We recently joined Rover, but on other sites, we've cared for dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, a hamster, and a pig. 100% of our FIVE STAR reviews have come from real pet parents who've trusted us to care for their pets. We're fully insured and are non smokers. Now for the fun bit: WE ADORE FURRY SNUGGLES! We're so happy to have shared our "official" pet/house sitting journey with 70+ furry friends PLUS a colony of 12 outdoor cats, and 22 feathery friends, and we're delighted (OVER THE MOON!) when we're asked back for return sits. We are a couple, which means pets get double the cuddles, attention, and love for the price of one. It's especially helpful for multiple pets, and energetic dogs or those that pull on the lead. We have had many loved pets ourselves over the years, but none of our own nowadays. Between us our own pets in the past have included dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, fish, a duck, and a parrot, but none of our own nowadays. So how did our pet sitting life begin?... We used to care for our son’s Boston Terrier as he worked away a lot, but he moved to Spain, and took Dory (our grand-pup) with him, and they're now settled with a family of their own in Spain. That's when our thoughts of pet sitting began, having a void in our lives with them gone, and being unable to have pets with travelling to visit them for extended periods. We LOVE pet sitting, but what began as a way to top up our hearts with furry snuggles, fast became an amazing full-time way of life, filled with fun and furry characters. In 2023, we turned our own home into a holiday cottage while we spent time with fun and furry new friends. On the house-sitting side of things, we've plenty of experience, from owning our own home, owning rental properties, and carrying out refurbishments on our various properties too. Also, I (Debbie) used to own a cleaning business that employed 12 staff until I sold it many years ago. Therefore, we are used to caring for properties, and have a common-sense approach, should anything unknown happen, like frozen pipes or power cuts. We live a quiet life, we're polite and friendly with neighbours, we're well-behaved, and house trained! Some pets just don't settle very well in kennels, catteries, and other people's homes, and we'd love to help if we can, so please feel free to ask any questions. We're very friendly and more than happy to answer anything. PS If you haven't had anyone stay in your home to look after your pets before, you'll find us very easy to chat with. We care for pets the way that suits each pet's individual needs and characteristics. With feeding times and walks, we're totally flexible around your particular pet's needs, and what makes them happy. We're fully ensured, non-smokers. From dog walking to cat cuddling, we love surrounding ourselves with animals. We also care for pets in their own homes while their owners take a well deserved trip, this means the only thing that changes is the person who is caring for them and giving them strokes and affection. So they can stay where they are happiest, with familiar smells and surroundings. Medication/Extra TLC: We've cared for many pets on various types of medication, with many different ailments, just ask for more details. We have a soft spot for those that need a little extra TLC and the elderly ones too. Shy or timid pets: Pets warm to us very quickly to us, and our reviews are testimony to that. We're fantastic with those that are shy, timid, and afraid of the world. We've 40+ FIVE STAR reviews on another pet sitting platform. Just ask for the link.

About: For three years, I worked in a kennels and cattery where I learned how to properly handle dogs on lead. I’m adept at reading their body language and bonding with them easily. I can also administer medication when necessary and recognise when a dog is unwell or needs medical attention. I have just moved to the area and would like to get to know the area a bit more. I miss working with animals so much. I have alot of free time. I care for pets in their own home by maintaining their routine — feeding, walking, cleaning up, giving medication if needed, and providing plenty of love — while keeping your home safe and secure.
“Kayleigh has been amazing throughout this whole process. We never go away without the dogs, but decided to try and use rover, where Kayleigh explained everything. We’ve had a lovely weekend away, stress free thanks to Kayleigh. And the dogs really love her by the looks of the photos. We will definetly be using her again.”

About: I have always had my own dogs and trained and cared for them from puppies. I am trusted to look after friends and families dogs often when they are on their holidays! If I can make a difference to your dogs like then that will make a difference to mine! I’m currently working at a security centre Monday- Friday 1pm-8pm so I can do mornings from 8am during the week up until 11am. And I can do evenings from 9pm. I am free all weekend to spend with your doggies and hopefully from next year I will be doing this full time! When I care for pets in a client’s home, my top priorities are safety, comfort, and trust. I always follow the owner’s instructions closely — from feeding schedules to favorite toys — to keep pets in their normal routine. I make sure doors and gates are secure, use leashes at all times during walks, and keep a close eye on pets both indoors and outdoors. I treat every pet like my own, giving them plenty of love, attention, and playtime while keeping their space clean and stress-free. Your pets’ happiness and safety come first, always.

About: I am currently a full-time firefighter but due to shift work, it means I have a lot of time off of work. I have a huge passion for animals and believe their welfare is as important as any humans. From working as a firefighter means I have developed skills around approaching animals safely and calmly. Understanding animal behaviour, and handling aggressive or frightened animals. I am training in providing basic first aid and life support to animals. Due to working shifts means I have a huge amount of flexibility throughout the week. I only have two days where I am unavailable throughout the day. I will always try to accommodate whatever is best for the client whether that is weekends, late nights, early mornings or multiple visits through the day. I will always have respect for owners homes when it comes to pet sitting. Any rules you would like me to follow I will be obliged to. The home will be left as good as it was before I entered. The care of the pet will always be the main priority of my service.
About: A bit about me 🫶🏼 Hi! I’m Sophie but you can all call me Soph, I am a dedicated and trustworthy pet sitter with a genuine love for animals. I’ve been surrounded by pets my whole life, growing up and into adulthood with both cats and dogs. I truly understand how important it is to find someone you can rely on and trust to look after your fur babies🐾 I provide a safe, calm, and loving environment where your pet will feel comfortable and cared for while you’re away. Your pet’s safety and comfort are always my top priority, and I will treat your fur baby as if they were my own. I offer plenty of cuddles, attention, and affection from our very first hello to the final goodbye. I work from home, which means I’m flexible and able to adapt to you and your pet’s needs. I can work from the comfort of your home, helping your pet stay relaxed and content in a familiar environment while you’re away. As I work remotely, access to reliable WiFi is essential during house sits. I have experience with a wide range of animals, from kittens and puppies to adult cats and dogs, as well as reptiles of all shapes and sizes. With me the tiniest of babies to largest they are all welcome. I believe every animal deserves love, patience, and attentive care and that’s exactly what I provide. I also have experience caring for dogs with a wide range of needs, including those with allergies who require close attention to diet, exercise, and overall routine. I’m confident managing feeding plans and ensuring everything is tailored to keep them comfortable and healthy. I’ve also cared for senior dogs who need a gentler approach, including slower paced walks, support with stairs, and extra patience and understanding especially for those experiencing incontinence, where regular toilet breaks are never an issue. I’m experienced in administering oral medication safely and calmly, and I always take the time to make pets feel at ease. Whether it’s providing attentive care or simply giving plenty of belly rubs and affection, I’m dedicated to ensuring every dog feels happy, supported, and well looked after. Whether it’s walks, playtime, feeding, or simply companionship, I tailor my care to suit each pet’s unique personality and routine. Meet & Greets 🐾 Meet and greets are an important first step for you, your pet, and myself to ensure we’re the right fit for each other. Our initial meet will last around 15–20 minutes, giving us time to discuss your pet’s routine, needs, and preferences so I can provide the highest standard of care. It’s also a great opportunity for me to learn about your pet’s personality, likes, and quirks helping us build a positive and comfortable bond from the start. Most importantly, it allows your pet to meet me at their own pace, have a good sniff, and feel relaxed and confident in my presence. You are your pet’s best friend, and I promise to be a close second🫶🏼 I work from home Monday to Friday, which gives me the flexibility to work from anywhere with a reliable WiFi connection. This allows me to be fully present and attentive to your pet throughout the day. I’m an early riser, so morning walks and toilet breaks are never an issue, and my schedule easily accommodates both morning and evening walks. Working from home also means plenty of time for play, companionship, and, of course, lots of cuddles🐾 I also have a secure, fenced garden—perfect for safe outdoor play and fresh air. I’m ideally located near woodland areas, offering great opportunities for longer, enriching walks in nature. If your pet is crate-trained or requires crating, I have the space to accommodate this, ensuring they feel safe and comfortable when resting or left alone. Please note that my home does have stairs, so if your pet prefers to sleep upstairs or on the bed, they would need to be comfortable using stairs or be okay with being carried. When in pet sitting in someone else home I ensure your house is treated as thought it is my own. I will ensure your house is clean and tidy on your return and throughout my stay. Your pet is my priority so ensuring they feel safe and content is vital. When out on walks unless confirmed by yourself during our initial meet and greet, your pet is kept leaded and with me at all times. I from experience know trust is very important so I am happy to do a few sessions ahead of my stay with your fur baby to ensure you and your pet feel safe and happy.

“Jamie has been great! He's been very professional and the services level is off the charts. We've never used Rover before, so asking someone to look after our cats was a bit daunting. But after we spoke and met Jamie we've been quickly put at ease. We will definitely ask him to look after our cats again!!”

Helena is a lovely sitter. She looked after Maddox while I was away for a few days. She kept me updated after every visit and included photos. I appreciated her being available on short notice and her regular communication, which I find to be very important when being away.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in County Durham choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a key safe. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalised codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in a flat, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or lift etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
