About: Hey! My name is Mars B. but I go by Myk W. (I got married and love a good nickname). I have worked with animals for my entire life - but for the last ten, it has been a significant part of my daily life. What started my passion was a harsh storm one summer when I was a kid. My grandma, The Beav’s, went outside once the worst of it had passed and began looking over the neighborhood. We walked home with two sparrows and a crow. A few days later, after mending any wounds and letting them recover, we got to release them. What proved I can handle the hardest of it was when my mother needed someone to take over the care for her elderly dogs. This included the fun of walks and play but also the parts that still inspire a tight ache in my chest. There’s a pride in knowing they were comforted until the end but a sorrow in any goodbye. I pride myself on my patience and in letting them sniff every bush on every walk, hide under beds until they seem me safe and being vigilant enough to prevent them from eating things they shouldn’t, from knocking things off counters or flying directly into a window. I also get to know them on their time. I was a very shy and anxious kid and apply what I wanted then to how I grow relationships with people and animals I work with now. I spent two years befriending a traumatized cockatoo and once he realized he could never bite me hard enough or scream loud enough to make me hurt him, he began sleeping on my chest and would dance every time I entered the room. His name was Goose and he and the macaw (with similar struggles) I had rescued at the time, Ravi, were the whole sun and moon to me. Animals always brighten my day and working with them is a healing thing for me. Living in Seattle means a smaller space not suitable for in-home rescue work and so I will find a place to volunteer and walk pets and do check in’s to fulfill my passion for working with animals! Currently, my husband and I are moving to Seattle, Wa and as a result, I am between jobs so my schedule is entirely open. Once in Seattle, my new job starts a few weeks later and I plan to work with animals as much as I can until then - and just a bit less once work starts as I still really want to walk and check in on pets local pets! In our home, it is individual to our pets. My husband and I have two cats - one named Smelvin, the other named Chickpea. Smelvin has had some hardships and as a result, has high anxiety and PICA, on top of food allergies limiting his diet to chicken and a few other poultry products. This means keeping a watchful eye to ensure he doesn’t have access to PICA triggers or anything else that could cause stomach issues to return. As for Chickpea, she is extremely high energy and so we need to prevent her from injuring herself - meaning we don’t keep heavy things out nor leave wires exposed. For others pets, I follow trust the owners judgements and maintain a close watch when their pets are in my care. During drop ins, I spend time with the animals and then do one or two walk throughs to check for any dangers, signs of sickness or distress or damage to the home or things they can escape from like window screens being pushed out or otherwise. It is very individual to owner and pet, but following instructions and also staying aware of obvious dangers or needs seems to cover all the bases.

“Harley was great! I have a spicy older male cat who needs twice daily heart meds he's very good at avoiding, on top of both of my cats being a little skittish around new people. Harley had him taking pills no problem. She's on time and sends good updates to keep you in the loop.”

“Besides a misunderstanding regarding litter box cleaning that wasn’t done, Alexis provided care for my two cats while I was gone. I got a photo each visit, which was a nice check in.”

“Elizabeth is the best caretaker! We don’t even worry when we leave town anymore because of her. It’s such a weight off, and allows us to actually enjoy our away time. She’s very thorough and you can tell she truly cares for our critter.”

About: I grew up with cats and learned how to care for them from a young age. In college, I also helped friends and neighbors with their cats, making sure they were happy, comfortable, and well cared for. My schedule is flexible and changes month to month, which allows me to adjust easily to pet parents’ needs. I’m able to make time for walks, feedings, and play whenever it’s needed. I make sure pets feel safe and comfortable by keeping their routines and giving them lots of care and attention. I always treat them like my own, with patience, kindness, and a clean, stress-free environment.

“Brooke dropped in to care for our 16 year old cat while we were out of town for nearly a week. Brooke was communicative, punctual, and somehow made friends with our grumpy kitty - a rare feat! We will absolutely call on Brooke again when we need a cat sitter!”

About: I've loved dogs all my life. For three years, I was a volunteer at Anchorage Care and Control. During my time, I trained, walked, groomed and rehabilitated countless dogs. I also helped with adoptions, helping many dogs find new homes outside that shelter. Additionally, in 2007 I received my pet care certification from the American Boarding Kennel Association. In subsequent years I have continued to train dogs here and there for friends as little favors. These days I specialize in behavioral training, but it's still very fun to teach dogs new tricks. I never get tired of teaching a dog how to shake or sit. I'm available to do dog walks or house visits any day, but house sittings for me are best on Mondays, or every other weekend I have a full time job at my hospital, but I'm available Mondays and every other weekend to give those lovely dogs some tender love and care! Treating them like family, because that's exactly what they are. Pets are a special part of any family, and I'll treat yours as if they're my own! Unfortunately I can't house your pets at my own place, but I'm happy to make any visits for dog walks, house sitting, or extra attention whenever needed.

About: I have had many different animals over my lifetime. I have puppy sat for many of my friends and family. I have helped train animals as well. I drive school bus so I have big gaps between my shifts where I can take your pup for long walks, play fetch or whatever their little heart desires. I have a puppy of my own that is 3 months old. He is more than willing to play with your fur babies if you would like or I can keep them separate while only giving your babies my 100% attention.

About: I have recently been volunteering at the Everett Animal Shelter, and am a foster parent to puppies, kittens and Adult dogs as needed if I can. I've been around all kinds of pets my whole life. I have worked at Dog Day 2 grooming and self wash in Everett, Burien Veterinary Hospital, and Mission Veterinary Clinic in Renton. I recently moved back to Burien and am looking to make some puppy friends, and a little income as well..I'm currently available as needed, and can provide your animal child/s with attention, walks, food, h20, play time, loves, and care as needed. A little about me, We recently had to say goodbye for now to our 16yr old Australian Shepherd, And it's been a sad time, but we know "Choco" is in a happy rainbow place. I look forward to meeting you, and your pets. Thanks for considering my help. Sincerely Julie

“August 15th, 2018 Dear Rover.com, Julie E and I have known each other going on 11 years now. I met Ms. E out at a park in west Seattle, where I found her walking and playing fetch with her dog, Bubba. Ms. E is an intelligent, enthusiastic, and creative person who has always shown her love for animals. Animals of all kinds have always loved being around Ms. E, which has always made her smile from ear to ear.
