Janette was AMAZING!!! Not only was she very thorough, she was so incredibly kind and caring. Not once did I ever have any hesitation about her caring for our 2 dogs and cat while we were away for an overnight Spring Break surprise. I felt comfortable with Janette immediately upon meeting her and knew this would be a wonderful addition! She was AMAZING with our pets and sent updates and photos with every walk. Before she left, I knew we'd be using her again - she really took the panic and uncertainty out of pet care while we were away.

About: I’ve been caring for animals my whole life and have pet sat for my uncle’s dogs, cats, and ferrets since I was young. I have experience with small and medium-sized dogs, including senior dogs, as my own dog is 14 years old. I understand the patience and extra care older pets need. I’m a huge animal lover, have attended pet expos for years, and even cared for a bearded dragon. I treat every pet like they’re part of my own family. I’m currently a nursing student looking to earn some extra income while in school by doing something I truly enjoy—caring for animals. My current job only schedules me occasionally, so I have a very flexible schedule and am available most days of the week, including weekdays and many weekends. I’m happy to work around your schedule to provide reliable, loving care for your pets. Whether your dog needs a walk, playtime, or just some extra attention while you’re away, I’m committed to making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for every visit. Safety and trust are my top priorities when caring for pets. I treat every animal like they are my own by making sure they feel comfortable, loved, and well cared for. I walk my own dog almost daily, and on days when walks aren’t possible, I give her extra playtime and attention while respecting her limits as a senior pup! I always make sure she has fresh water, especially on hot days, and that she gets the care and companionship she needs. For drop-ins and walks, I will provide a safe environment, plenty of attention, and updates so you can feel confident your pet is in good hands.

About: I grew with a 60lb English Bulldog who had a rambunctious spirit. With him I learned the special needs from particular breeds. Later I had a 5 lb Yorkie. She was a sweetheart that wanted nothing more than to be by your side. They were the best around. I am happy to walk your dog(s), run them in the yard, or spend time with them indoors to break up the time they spend alone. I’m also happy to stop by to feed your cats and give them some one on on time. I like to work within my community. It builds trust between both parties. I’m a college student continuing in the fall. My hours are flexible until then. While I don’t house your pets, I am able to tend to them in your home. I can check a litter box, handle feedings, play with them, and run them in your fenced yard. I’m happy to walk them through their neighborhood or to take them for long walks to a local park. We can tailor the visit to their specific needs.

About: As a dedicated and experienced dog lover, I offer a safe and nurturing environment for your furry baby. Having a Shih Tzu named Lady of my own and a Yorkie who was blind and had diabetes and required insulin shots on a daily basis and sadly passed away. My experience has given me a deep understanding of the patience and specific attention some dogs require. As a stay at home empty nester, your furry baby will receive the utmost attention and companionship it deserves. In my home every furry baby is part of the family. I live in a single family home with a huge fenced in yard. They are free to roam in my house, no restrictions, just fun!

About: Well, I may not be the worlds best, but I sure try to be! Family, friends, and neighbors have trusted me to give their pets the care and love they deserve for years. I’m currently staying close to home to take care of my mother, so your pet will never be left alone. I will have time to walk or check up on your pets however often is needed as well. I like to make sure that your pet has a happy and safe time in my car. I pay great attention to detail in my care for animals and can follow any additional instructions. I have also had several different kinds of pets myself, so I have a wide experience with all kinds of pets.

About: Hi, I’m Vanessa! I’m currently in college but my family has been fostering dogs since I was in middle school, so I have experience with every kind of dog from 8-week puppies to older dogs to three legged ones! I currently have 2 rescues I help take care of and train, and love volunteering at animal shelters(Chicago Canine and Wright Way) in my free time, so I have a wide variety of experiences when it comes to caring for animals. Whether it be walking one dog or bathing a van load of puppies, I love spending time with all dogs!!!! I’m currently working part-time, so I have plenty of time for walks, check-ins, and overnight stays. I’m available during the weekdays and most weekends, and my schedule is very flexible. I have experience with basic dog training classes, and my two dogs are both crate trained so I can follow any dogs schedule, strict or relaxed, and make sure they’re safe and comfortable. I also love to play with them and help them get the physical and mental stimulation they need to be happy and healthy!

About: I have lots of experience with dogs of all sizes and breeds, from small dogs that require tooth brushing to old dogs that require medicine for joint pain to golden retrievers that want to play catch for hours on end. Walking is one of my favorite activities and it’s made even better with a furry friend by my side! I am a grad student at UIC and have in-person classes on Mondays and Thursdays, aside from that I will be around and able to care for your pet(s)! If you do need a sitter/walker on Mondays or Thursdays, I will be available after 7pm to walk or house sit :) I am a very courteous guest. I am more than happy to take care of plants, bring in the mail, etc. all in addition to taking amazing care of your animals!

Mario is a gem! Olive and I had such a great experience with Mario — he’s friendly, professional, and truly knows his stuff when it comes to dogs. From the very beginning, he connected with Olive and made her feel at ease. She was always excited to see him, and I felt completely confident leaving her in his care. What really stood out was how Mario handled an unexpected stomach issue Olive had one day. When he arrived for her walk, he noticed she’d had an accident inside and immediately recognized that something was off. Not only did he take care of the cleanup without hesitation, but he also kept me updated with calm, thoughtful messages and even brought rice on a follow-up visit to help settle her stomach. That kind of attentiveness instills so much confidence and really reinforces just how much he cares about the dogs he works with. Mario goes well beyond the basics — he’s compassionate, attentive, and clearly invested in the dogs he looks after. Olive and I are both so lucky to have found him. Can’t recommend him highly enough!

  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a walker. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your walker or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your walker questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and walkers on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement walker.
