“Perry is the best! She sends videos and pictures so you can love on your baby from afar! Our dog had the best time with her and we know she was well taken care of and loved! We will definitely be using her again!”

“Rosemary was a legit godsend. She was amazing and I'm so happy I found her. My situation was very unique and she took it in stride. But the main thing was she helped my dogs feel comfortable and loved in a brand new house. She sent so many photos which helped ease my mind. Then she left my house super clean. I couldn't even tell she had been there. I will hire her again and recommend her to all my fellow dog people.”

“Kayleigh did a great job taking care of my doggos Chubbs + Reade! We got multiple text and photo updates throughout her time with them and had no worries while she was with them.”
“Melinda was fantastic! It’s very difficult for me to leave my 12 year old cancer survivor dog with anyone but family but Melinda did amazing and took all our worries away. Already planning our next booking - highly recommend !”

“Kristen is an incredible sitter for our pups! We always feel at ease knowing the pups and house are well taken care of and loved. We will absolutely be booking with Kristen again!”

“Kenia was absolutely wonderful, and I would book with her again without hesitation. This was my first time having someone stay overnight in my home, so I was naturally a little nervous, but she immediately put me at ease with her communication and professionalism. She respected my home and my space exactly as we discussed, followed every instruction carefully, and even took initiative when appropriate without needing to be asked. She kept me updated throughout the stay with messages, photos, and videos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. Most importantly, Luna was well cared for, happy, and comfortable when I returned. It was clear that Kenia genuinely cared about making sure both my dog and my home were well taken care of. I truly appreciated her thoughtfulness, reliability, and attention to detail. I highly recommend Kenia to anyone looking for a trustworthy, respectful, and caring pet sitter!”

“I had an excellent experience with Claire and highly recommend her to anyone in need of a reliable and caring dog sitter. She was punctual and her communication was top-notch; she kept me updated with regular, detailed messages and sent adorable pictures of my dog that really put my mind at ease while I was away. When I returned, the house was in great condition, and most importantly, my dog was happy and well-cared for. I will definitely be reaching out to her for future dog-sitting needs!”

“Liyah was fantastic! My dog Beyonce loved her, and it was mutual. Liyah made sure she was well-cared for and walked and that I got photos. As a house sitter she also made sure everything was tidy when I came home, even washing the sheets on the spare bed and making it! I would highly recommend Liyah and will definitely use her again!”
About: I’ve had a heart for animals since I was a kid, and that love has only grown! From finned friends like fish to turtles, lizards, bunnies, horses, and dogs, I've cared for them all! Currently my primary focus at home is my senior dog, my five year old husky, and the horses at my local farm that I volunteer with weekly. I promise to look after your pets as if they were my own. I'm currently working full time in office. I am available before 8am and after 4pm MON - FRI and during the weekends to care for your pets. Additionally, depending on your location and needs, I can be available mid day for a drop in, walk, etc. if needed during the week. I prioritize safety, comfort, and consistency when caring for pets. I focus on building trust by moving at each pet’s pace, using positive reinforcement, and respecting boundaries.
About: I've grown up around a wide variety of animals, including birds, dogs, cats, etc. Spending so much time caring for animals has taught me that each one has a unique personality and temperament, and I genuinely enjoy getting to know them and building their trust. In addition to my lifelong experience with animals, I have the privilege of volunteering with a rescue organization called Lovepaws, where I work with dogs and cats of all ages, breeds, sizes, and temperaments. This experience has strengthened my ability to provide compassionate, attentive care while ensuring each animal feels safe, comfortable, and loved. Whether your pet is energetic and playful or shy and reserved, I'll treat them with the same patience, kindness, and care that I would my own. While I'm a full-time college student and work part-time, caring for animals is one of my greatest passions. I make it a priority to dedicate quality time to every pet in my care, ensuring they feel loved, comfortable, and well cared for while you're away. I like to follow each pet's normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, medication (if needed), and any special instructions provided by the owner. I know that consistency helps pets feel safe and comfortable while their family is away, so I make it a priority to give them plenty of attention, affection, and exercise based on their individual needs. I'll also keep you updated with regular messages and photos, so you can have peace of mind knowing your pet is happy and well cared for.

“Keila is so sweet and wonderful with animals!!! It was so great to receive updates and pictures/ videos of my cat while I was away!! Amazing experience + highly recommend!! :D”

“My shy, nervous pup loved Eve!! She was very patient with him and demonstrated a lot of expertise in reading dog body language. We will definitely be booking with Eve in the future!”

“Raquel took great care of my dog and left my home in pristine condition while house sitting. She was highly communicative throughout the stay and made sure that my dog went out for plenty of walks and had lots of indoor play time. My dog does not do well with other dogs and Raquel did a great job in avoiding any issues while on walks. I would highly recommend Raquel’s services!”

“Deanna was great! Would love to have her watch Hobbes for future vacations! House and cat left just as she found them and I really appreciated the pictures and videos and updates on how he was doing!”

“Olga was very caring with our senior dog, and very responsive. She sent updates and pictures everyday so we always know how our little babies were doing! Our dog is currently in the middle of cancer treatment so her care and comfort was paramount to us and to her. We are so grateful for that. Only complaint is that our cat’s litter box was not cleaned regularly, and he began peeing on other things in response. We did not remind her to do this so we will take partial responsibility but the smell was very strong and it was clear it hadn’t been cleaned. Otherwise, we would absolutely have Olga back due to the peace of mind we had while she was watching our fur babies!”

About: Pets have always been part of my family. We got our first dog when I was 9, and I was hooked from the start. Before long, I became the go-to pet sitter in my neighborhood, and I’ve continued caring for pets for friends and family throughout adulthood. Over the years, I’ve handled everything from quick drop-ins and overnight stays to puppy accidents, anxious pets, senior dogs who need a little extra patience, and adventurous pups who somehow manage to find the neighborhood skunk. I’m comfortable with the messy, quirky, unpredictable parts of pet care and genuinely enjoy getting to know each animal’s personality, routine, and needs. I treat every pet like they’re part of the family — because that’s always been what pets are to me. My current schedule gives me a lot of flexibility throughout the day, so I’m able to accommodate a variety of walk and drop-in times and can often work with changing schedules. Feel free to reach out even if you don’t see your exact preferred time reflected on my calendar. I’ll always be upfront about what I can accommodate. When caring for your dog in your home, I’ll do my best to keep their routine feeling as normal and comfortable as possible. I’ll follow your instructions for walks, feeding, water, medications if applicable, potty breaks, playtime, and any house rules you have in place. I know how important it is to trust someone in your home, so I’ll treat your space with care and respect, keep things tidy, and make sure doors, gates, leashes, and other safety points are secure before I leave. Most importantly, I want your dog to feel relaxed and cared for while you’re away. I’m happy to spend time playing, giving affection, getting outside for a good walk, or simply keeping them company depending on what they enjoy most.

“Sarah was amazing with my two dogs, Tito and Maddie! I just adopted Maddie two weeks ago and was nervous how they would do in a new place together. Sarah took all of my worry away and they did so well with her. She sent wonderful updates about their day with adorable photos. I felt completely comfortable knowing they were with Sarah and I highly recommend her to take care of your fur babies. I will definitely be using Sarah again in the future:)”

About: I grew up with pets in my household, so I absolutely adore animals and have been taking care of them since I was a child. Additionally, for the last several years, I have taken care of my friends and neighbors pets. I work full-time; my schedule can vary slightly, but typically I work 7:30-3:30 Monday-Friday in McLean. I am available after those times, on the weekends, and over holidays! Your pet's safety and comfort are my top priorities. I take the time to learn each pet's routine, personality, and any special care instructions so they feel secure and well cared for. I provide plenty of attention, exercise, and affection while maintaining a calm, clean, and safe environment. I'll keep you updated with photos and messages so you can have peace of mind while you're away. I treat every pet with the same love, patience, and care that I would give my own.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Herndon
This was my second time having Kenia take care of my nugget Oliver while I was out of town and like last time I came home to a happy dog and clean home :) And my dog had become an unusually picky eater the week before Kenia stayed and she troubleshooted and started microwaving his food for a few seconds which miraculously got him to eat again. Thanks, Kenia!

Liyah was so great with our two dogs! One of them is very difficult which is why we went with a house sitter over boarding, and she worked with him so well. She communicated well, demonstrated really good knowledge of dog handling and care, and took good care of the house while we were away. Will definitely book again.

Melinda may be the best pet-sitter we have known. She is thoughtful, thorough, and caring -- and a prompt communicator. Melinda came to our home for overnight stays for our two medium-sized, often-enthusiastic mixed-breed dogs, and provided the peaceful environment that they needed. We were welcomed home by two happy pups and a home in pristine condition. We highly recommend Melinda!

Eve is awesome! Our dog and cat love spending time with her. She is very attentive with them, gives updates throughout the day and is quick to respond to any questions or concerns we might have. Definitely recommend to anyone who needs someone to look after their fur babies :)

Kendall did another great job for us, this time staying two nights and not only taking great care of our dogs, but the house was immaculate upon our return. Great communication throughout and understood our dogs' quirky requirements. Dogs also give a 5 paw rating.

Christina was referred by a neighbor and we could not be any happier with her service. She sent us daily pictures of our baby, and in all the pictures we can tell how happy he was. He was comfortable with Christina as he has certain poses that he does when he is happy and they were all displayed in each picture. After our return he continues to look for her. Thank you Christina, we are so grateful 🙏 to have met and hired you. ❤️

Emily was wonderful. She accepted our very last-minute booking and was extremely flexible in arranging her schedule to accommodate Toby’s needs. She sent many adorable photos of him at home and on walks and even took him for a car ride when I mentioned he loves to ride in the car! Great communication throughout the stay. Highly recommend.

Julia was great! She watched my 2 dogs in my home for a few nights and was responsive, gave frequent updates and respectful of the home. She really saved the day when I couldn’t find another dog sitter in the middle of the Summer. I would use her again and recommend to others!

Antonia was excellent! She replied within a few minutes of my sending her a booking request and it was very easy to schedule a meet and greet with her. My dog loved her from the minute he saw here. She sent us pics while we were away, and she even came early before we left to make sure Isvar would be fine with her. I’m definitely purely going to ask Antonia to watch Oscar when we go away next.! Oh, and she left our house epic and span. You couldn’t even tell she’d been here.

The average cost for House Sitting in Herndon on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Herndon walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Herndon maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Herndon choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Herndon. On Rover:
- 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
