“Allegra was amazing!! Probably the best dog sitter we've ever had. Very communicative, flexible, and on top of things (plus my dogs loved her). If you want to have a stress-free time, you should totally hire Allegra to watch your pets. I know that if I ever need a sitter in the future, she is going to be who I go to first.”

“Jennifer and her son tag-teamed the weekend and took great care of my dog for a last minute booking! He seemed very responsible and became my dog’s buddy quickly by throwing toys and playing tug :) I felt like my dog was in good hands!”

“We had a great experience with Rosemary! She came early so the dogs could warm up to her, which we really appreciated. She took amazing care of them while we were away and sent tons of pictures and updates, which gave us so much peace of mind. It was clear our dogs were comfortable and well loved. Highly recommend!”

About: Experience caring for neighborhood dogs and cats, including walking, feeding, and playing. Former associate of Petsmart’s Pet Hotel. There, I cared for boarded dogs individually and by surveying doggie day camps (groups of 10-15 dogs). I also cared for cats staying at Petsmart. Morning, afternoon, and evening availability during the week. Full availability on weekends. However, willing to adapt and provide the best care possible for your pets. I live with three well-behaved cats that are well-fed and well played with. When dogsitting for others, I follow the owners guidelines and have experience in walking, fenced yard time, and crating.
“I’ve used Rover a total of 3 times and never had a poor experience. Kayleigh was nothing short than amazing. We received updates for every walk, feed and in between snuggles! Highly recommend if you’re going away for the weekend and want someone to hangout in your home for the comfort of your fur babies! We tend to go out of town at least once a month and look forward to using Kayleigh again.”

“Vinnie is the best! He communicates quickly and clearly, but beyond that he helps our anxious dog relax while he's caring for her. We so value his help and recommend him to anyone.”

“Our two dogs are very "hands on", or might even say spoiled. We had Kendall stay over for several hours and some walks. We reviewed beforehand our process and she was very attentive and asked lots of questions to make sure she understood the schedule and our dogs' habits. Very happy with Kendall's service.”

“This was my first time booking with Melinda and she exceeded all our needs, especially when my dog had a bad day health wise. I took the longest vacation in my adult life and overseas as well, she gave me peace of mind I needed to enjoy my trip. 1000% would rebook and recommend her wholeheartedly.”

“Sierra took great care of my 15 year old dog for a long weekend. She was responsive, flexible and patient with my senior dog habits. I returned home to a relaxed and happy dog. Highly recommend her. Thanks!”

“Kristen was an amazing dog sitter. She took great care of the dogs and updated me regularly on how they were doing. She so took great care of my home. She is great with the dogs and looks out for their every need”

“McKenna is a wonderful dog sitter. She was attentive, caring, and communicative the whole time I was away from home. I received many pictures of my dog, and I could easily tell he was enjoying the time he spent with McKenna. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy pet or home sitter.”

“Heather was new to us and after an initial meet and greet with Huey, who immediately liked her and asked for pets, we booked her for a weekend! Heather was affordable, and took great care of our big boy! She read the Huey Handbook and anytime she had questions texted to confirm. It was amazing not having to worry on my weekend trip out of town, knowing he was in good hands with her. She sent lots of pics and updates throughout the stay! Thanks Heather :)”
About: I've had dogs around me all my life. I absolutely love them and I'm usually THAT GUY in the group who will stop and pet a dog they see across the street. I have experience with many different types of dogs, from the ones that will be friendly to anyone they meet to the ones that take a little bit more time to get comfortable with strangers. Either way, I will find a way to become a dog's best friend. I've had to take care of both old and young dogs and super energetic ones. I don't mind however long a walk whether it's 5 minutes or an hour. My two siblings both love dogs as well and are just as qualified as me when it comes to taking care of them.

This is first time having a pet sitter at home .Asal is so amazing .She spends time with them by playing constantly updating me with how much they are eating and the instructions I left for her and sending me cute videos and pictures. She also ask me take trash out when she is it at our home .She care our kitties with love and affection .Couldn’t ask more. She is the best .Thank you Asal looking forward to work with you in the future.

I would give Amelia 10 stars if I could. She was so helpful and communicative and her diligence allowed me and my family to completely relax on vacation knowiing our pets and home were in great hands. I could tell when I met her that she is very tuned in to the pets and their nature. She easily bonded with my dog and evey my persnickety kitty was receptive to her. She understoond and responded to both of their unique natures and met them where they are. One note on my dog....he is a 15 yo Cavachon and he has a limp and can only walk short distancs. Amelia was so gentle and understanding making sure he got his outdoor time and walking him in the "stroller" when necessary. She had to give him medication and help him with the stairs and totally read his capabilities so she could help him get the most out of every day. She kept me well informed and took plenty of pics so I could connect with my furbabies from far away. Aside from amazing pet care, she went way above and beyond making my home so clean and beautiful when I returned. She even cleaned out my refrigerator for me which was so kind. I wholeheartedly endorse her and will look forward to having her back next time we travel!

Very attentive and kept me well informed. Miss Muffin can be anxious and V did everything she could to make sure Muffin felt safe, reassured, and comfortable. Muffin doesn’t usually like men but also took very well to her partner. 10/10 would send Miss English Muffin back

Kenia was absolutely wonderful, and I would book with her again without hesitation. This was my first time having someone stay overnight in my home, so I was naturally a little nervous, but she immediately put me at ease with her communication and professionalism. She respected my home and my space exactly as we discussed, followed every instruction carefully, and even took initiative when appropriate without needing to be asked. She kept me updated throughout the stay with messages, photos, and videos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. Most importantly, Luna was well cared for, happy, and comfortable when I returned. It was clear that Kenia genuinely cared about making sure both my dog and my home were well taken care of. I truly appreciated her thoughtfulness, reliability, and attention to detail. I highly recommend Kenia to anyone looking for a trustworthy, respectful, and caring pet sitter!

Jennifer took such great care of our three boys. I am usually nervous about leaving them with someone new as we have a big guy who is on a pretty strict medication schedule. After meeting Jennifer I did not worry once while we were gone. She kept us up to date each day and showered our pups with love and attention. Will absolutely be a repeat client.

Our two dogs are very "hands on", or might even say spoiled. We had Kendall stay over for several hours and some walks. We reviewed beforehand our process and she was very attentive and asked lots of questions to make sure she understood the schedule and our dogs' habits. Very happy with Kendall's service.

We are so lucky we found Maya to watch after our dog Lola while we were out of town. Maya was an excellent communicator, we received numerous updates including photos while she stayed with Lola in our apartment- taking care of her, playing, walking, and cuddling. Lola had several medications she needed administered each day and Maya did so without any issues. We had been nervous to leave Lola anywhere but the kennel where she was trained when we went out of town before, but Maya put us at ease the moment we met her and we knew that Lola would be well taken care of and safe. Before we left she asked questions, took good notes, and made sure she understood Lola’s routine so that she would be comfortable while we were gone. Maya also took good care of our home while we were out of town, and left it very tidy. We absolutely will be booking Maya again soon!

FAQs for House Sitting - Herndon
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Herndon on Rover is $50.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 10,166 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Herndon. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Herndon walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Herndon maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Herndon choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
