About: I’m a lifelong animal lover who treats every pet like a cherished member of the family. My hands-on pet care experience includes: Senior Dog Care & Special Needs: Over a decade of caring for senior dogs—including my own 10-year-old Chiweenie—so I’m deeply familiar with gentle handling, administering oral medications, adjusting to slower mobility, and sticking strictly to sensitive dietary routines. Feline Companionship: Experience managing feeding schedules, fresh litter maintenance, playful engagement, and reading cat body language to ensure they feel safe, calm, and respected on their own terms. Daily Walking & Exercise: Dependable, safety-focused dog walking structured around your pup's energy level—from brisk neighborhood walks to relaxed sniffing strolls. Balancing work, family, and daily commitments means my schedule is structured, reliable, and predictable. Because I manage my daily routines with clear flexibility, I can seamlessly integrate high-quality pet care into every morning, afternoon, and evening. Peace of Mind: Complete in-home reliability with clear communication and detailed daily photo updates after every visit, so you always know your fur baby is safe and content.

Jennifer has been absolutely great. The cats can’t wait to see her. Always on time and will communicate if she can’t be. Knowledgeable about what to look for with senior cats without even asking. She has done house sits for me when I go away and mid day drop ins when I have long work days. My definite go to.

I was out of town & there was an emergency with one of my cats that my roommate reported. I reached out to heather to see if she could run over and check on my cat that night (super last minute) and she made it work and ensured that everything was okay! About: I’ve been caring for dogs since I was a kid, and it’s still one of my greatest joys. Today, I’m a proud dog mom to two pups: Roxy, my 16-year-old toy poodle with a sweet but sassy senior personality, and Pickles, our affectionate long-haired Chihuahua mix who loves everyone—dogs and people alike! Over the years, I’ve also cared for many friends’ and family members’ pets, including dogs with different temperaments and medical needs. I'm comfortable administering medications and giving each dog the attention they deserve. I love going on walks and always enjoy bringing the dogs along for fresh air and exercise. My family enjoys having a house full of furry friends. Whether your pup is playful, shy, or somewhere in between, they’ll be treated like part of the family in our home. I work from home, so when I board dogs, I am available to them all day and night. I also have my summers off, so I can make even more time for the dogs I walk or board in the summer months. In my home, safety and comfort are top priorities. I have a securely fenced yard for safe outdoor play and potty breaks, and I’ve set up gated areas inside to provide quiet or separate spaces if a dog needs downtime. I have two friendly dogs who enjoy the company of other pups, and my two children are gentle and respectful with animals—they love helping give our furry guests lots of attention and affection. I always take time to get to know each dog’s personality and needs to make sure they feel safe, loved, and at home. Whether it’s playtime, cuddles, or quiet space, I’m here to make their stay as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.

Maria took such great care of my cat! I could tell he was so happy with the time he spent with her. She sent plenty of videos and pictures of him which I loved and she followed the instructions I left for his care perfectly. My cat was so calm when we got home that I could tell all his needs had been well met while we were gone.

About: I’ve owned senior animals that have needed meds. I give medications and take care of peoples animals daily as an icu vet tech. I’m relied on to take care of everything from stable to critical animals. I currently work full time but only work 3 days a week and could use something to do in my free time. Taking care of animals is something I love to do. I can do anything that is needed to be done from giving insulin to walking your animals. If you need a litter box cleaned or a cat to be pilled that’s not a problem either.

About: I grew up with Rottweilers and have always loved dogs of all breeds and sizes. My most recent pet was a sweet Shih Tzu who needed a little extra tender care, which taught me the importance of patience and gentle attention. Cuddling is truly my favorite part of pet care, and I will treat your furry family member with the same love, respect, and affection I’d give my own. I work from home and have a very flexible schedule—just me and my laptop! I can work on the go, which makes it easy to prioritize your pet’s needs. While I may have the occasional client call lasting up to an hour, the rest of my time is dedicated to giving your fur baby the love, attention, and care they deserve. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. In your home, I will carefully follow all rules, routines, and restrictions you provide to ensure consistency and peace of mind. In my own home, I’ve created a secure, pet-friendly environment—nothing is left out or easily accessible that pets can get into. I also have a spacious patio for supervised outdoor time, and the open layout of my apartment means your pet will always be within my line of sight.

We have enjoyed working with Samauria so far! She came by for a meet and greet first, which we feel is very important. Our pup Poe was loving on her from the start, appreciating the scratches and belly rubs given. They had their first visit today and all went well. Samauria was communicative and save for a tiny house alarm kink, she followed all our instructions. She even alerted me to Poe’s excitement outside that irritated her paws because of the ice. I greatly appreciate her efforts with that. We look forward to future visits and a weekend stay coming up.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Pet Sitting in Essex on Rover is $22.2 per visit (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Pet Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Pet Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 5,029 sitters on Rover offering Pet Sitting across Essex. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

A pet sitter can provide focused care sessions, help your pet’s routine stay on track, or keep you updated on your pet’s mood and energy levels.

Whether you’re at the office for the day or traveling for a few nights, a pet sitter can offer potty breaks during a Essex stroll, cleaning the litter box, or making sure your pet has on-time food or water refills. For daytime services like walking and drop-ins, you can also request sitters to send a report card with every visit.

Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Essex. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
