“Julie was a pleasure to work with! She was able to accommodate my request with short notice. My pets immediately felt comfortable with her. I appreciated her quick responses and the photos from each visit. I would definitely recommend Julie!”

“Excellent service. Cats were very well cared for and we got a very precise report each day. Very good communicator and followed through precisely on the cats neefds”

“Abbey was wonderful! She took care of my cat and my dog while I was away. They absolutely love her! She sent lots of pics and updates. In addition to caring for the usual stuff (food, walks, litter box), she also administered medicine to my dog without issue! We will absolutely use her again and I know the pets will be looking forward to seeing her again.”

“It has been so great having Allison to drop in on our dogs during the day! She is consistent and communicative. It definitely is a weight off our shoulders knowing the dogs get some play time while we are at work.”

“Hilary is fantastic! She sends wonderful photos and leaves great notes on Josie. She is communicative, reliable, and came to help when I needed her last minute. Highly recommend!”

“Laura was simply fantastic! She kept up with our four cats’ needs, but more importantly, she and her family made a real effort to get to know them and to give them attention, which made the separation less traumatic for them. She also was on top of their health, alerting us immediately of a potential problem. She called our vet and was ready to take the cat in, but the problem cleared. Also, her daily reports were wonderful and really put our minds at ease so we could enjoy our holiday!”

“We love having Nikki visit moose. She is is attentive and caring! She also leaves detailed recaps of each visit. Moose is lucky to have her. We can tell he already loves her!”

“She took great care of our hammy girl, Im glad we found Cait! She gave ham some much needed pets while we were away. Cait also left very detailed notes when checking in on our ham. Very happy!”

About: As a pet-owner and rover-user myself, I know how important it is to have someone you can trust take care of your pets when you aren't available. I am passionate about giving dogs happy highlights to each and every day, and I love to play with them and take them on long walks to sniff and enjoy the outdoors. As a work-from-home employee, I am often free during work hours to pay your pet a visit or take them on a nice walk to help break up the day while you are away! I can be free on evenings and weekends as well, and would be happy to spend time playing with your pet and giving them happy moments each and every day while they wait for you to return. My dog loves to play indoors, which means I am extra vigilant that the house is safe for him should he get zoomies and run around the furniture. I would be careful to provide that safe environment for your dog as well, in your home or mine.

About: I have been pet sitting since I was in middle school for neighbors, families I nannied for, and friends. I have experience with kittens as well as senior dogs and everything in between. I currently work full-time, but have a very flexible in person versus remote schedule most weeks. I am able to decide which day I am where. I provide pets with the daily routines that they are accustomed to to make your time away from home as easy as possible for them.
“Allegra was a wonderful drop-in sitter for our kitty! She took great care to follow all instructions and took time to play with and cuddle with our cat while we were away. Would happily hire her again!”

About: I've had a dog for 5 years. I always walk, watch, and care for my friends' dogs. I am their go-to person when it comes to what's good for their dogs. I'm a stay-at-home wife. So I have plenty of time to walk and take dogs on their daily exercise. I can fit my schedule around the dog's owner schedule. I live in Oldtown Alexandria. It’s a very walkable neighborhood with plenty of dog parks. It’s a very dog friendly area and dogs love it here.
“Mandy was wonderful! She took great care of my dog and cat, was very communicative, and made me feel very comfortable leaving them in her care! I would definitely recommend Mandy to anyone!”

“Ilana is an amazing sitter! She organized a meet and greet to make sure she knew everything she needed to about Juniper. She checked in if she had any questions, and juniper loved her!”

The median cost per visit for pet sitting in Alexandria is $20

Phenomenal cat sitter! Even my shyest kitty warmed right up to her on the first visit. I appreciated her reliability and attention to detail. She incorporated each of my cats’ playtime/attention preferences into everyday care. She was also easy to communicate and coordinate with.

Alex was amazing. Truly I can’t say enough great things about her, and I would giver her ten stars out of five if I could. Best Rover I’ve ever had. I think my cat fell in love with Alex in four short days. Alex is super communicative, incredibly diligent, and went well above and beyond what was asked. I would have no hesitation hiring Alex again and in fact I plan to the next time I am out of town.

Tommy did a great job taking care of our older dog while we were away on a short vacation. He completed all drop in visits and walks on time and sent regular updates and photos. It was a relief to know our little guy was in good hands while we were away. Thanks again Tommy!!

A pet sitter can provide focused care sessions, help your pet’s routine stay on track, or keep you updated on your pet’s mood and energy levels.
Whether you’re at the office for the day or traveling for a few nights, a pet sitter can offer potty breaks during a Alexandria stroll, cleaning the litter box, or making sure your pet has on-time food or water refills. For daytime services like walking and drop-ins, you can also request sitters to send a report card with every visit.
Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Alexandria. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
