“Heather came through for us after we had a late cancellation for a cat-sitting. I reached out to several Rover sitters and she was the very first to respond. It meant the world to go on our family trip assured that our boy was in good hands. Heather sent photo updates and promptly messaged back: would absolutely recommend her!”

“Jennifer has been absolutely great. The cats can’t wait to see her. Always on time and will communicate if she can’t be. Knowledgeable about what to look for with senior cats without even asking. She has done house sits for me when I go away and mid day drop ins when I have long work days. My definite go to.”

“Jennifer was great! She was great with my dog and two cats and took good care of them! Her communication was very good and she had quick responses to my messages. I would definitely recommend!”

“I cannot possibly say enough good things about Erica! While Erica has watched our pets in the past, this was her first time with our newest fur babies. She was incredibly patient with our pups and their "behavior struggles". Incredible communication. She is simply the best!”

“Paige did a great job taking care of our cat, Dommy! Thanks to Paige, we had the peace of mind to enjoy our vacation. We will definitely reach out again the next time we need a sitter!”

“Dorian was great! Our pup is a little shy and doesn't take to everyone quickly, but she was snuggling Dorian by the end of our meet and greet. She gave a nice recap of their playdate and sent a cute picture too. We will definitely have Dorian check on Mocha again!”

About: Hi, I’m Angie! As a lifelong animal lover and a former veterinary center professional with 4 years of hands-on clinic experience, I provide a level of care, intuition, and safety that goes far beyond the average pet sitter. Your pets aren't just animals to me—they are family, and their comfort and safety are my absolute top priorities. Because of my clinical background, I have a deep understanding of animal behavior, body language, and health indicators. I have personally fostered and nursed fragile, newborn bottle-baby kitten litters through long nights, meaning I bring a profound level of patience, dedication, and attention to detail to every pet in my care. Whether your pet is a high-energy puppy, a senior needing gentle assistance and medication administration, or a shy kitty who just needs a calm presence, I’ve got them covered. I am fully background-checked through Rover and highly disciplined about safety. I look forward to giving you total peace of mind while you are away from your fur babies! I have full, wide-open availability for pet care seven days a week! Because pet care is my primary focus, my schedule is completely flexible. I am fully available morning, noon, and night for weekday dog walks, midday drop-in visits, medication administration, and dedicated overnight house sitting. Because I don't have a restrictive corporate schedule tying me down, I can accommodate short-notice requests, maintain perfect consistency, and dedicate 100% of my time and energy to keeping your pets safe, happy, and loved. Safety is my absolute highest priority, backed by four years of professional experience working in a veterinary clinic. When caring for pets in your or my home, I strictly follow all care instructions, double-check that entryways and gates are entirely secure, and maintain rigid leash safety during walks. My clinical background means I am expert at reading subtle animal body language for any signs of stress, discomfort, or medical needs. You will receive detailed updates and photos after every single visit so you have total peace of mind.
“Joselyn was an amazing drop in sitter while we were away for the weekend. She provided photos and message updates at each visit. We felt assured our GSD and cat were being well cared for.”

“Maria became a lifesaver with looking after our fur babies on short notice for our trip. This was the first time getting a sitter and I’m grateful she accepted this job to drop in for us. She is very sweet and she kept us updated with messages and photos everyday on our young ones. Most important my babies loved her and enjoyed her so I have no complaints and would love to have her sit in with them again”

About: I have watched my grandma's animals since I was 13 and have also had dogs and cats since I was a baby and have always loved all kinds of animals I can dog sit all weekend because I am not busy and i need money to pay for my college, the only thing I have in my schedule is school. At my home I feed all my animals, I walk them, I watch them and pet them and love them. Also I watch them when my parents go places
About: Size limit 20 pounds (adult size) for fun and safety (no large breed puppies). Your small or tiny dog will have up to 4 right-sized buddies to play with in my big securely-fenced yard. Professionally, I am a masters-prepared nurse and dog trainer who specializes in working with small dogs and puppies. I have worked with dogs professionally for more than 20 years, as a vet technician and dog trainer. There is no substitute for experience! I am very comfortable monitoring and managing dog play to keep everyone safe and happy, as well as managing special needs, giving medication, bathing, clipping nails, etc. Your dog will thrive with expert care from an experienced professional. I work from home and have lots of extra room on my couch for your little one! Your dog is most welcome to join us for couch time, walkies, and supervised outdoor play time in my large securely fenced garden. I am home most of the time, but I do go out to do normal things (the gym, errands, occasional social engagements). Please let me know if your dog is not crate trained. I do separate the dogs for safety when I Ieave the house, but can use gates or an ex-pen instead of a crate if that works better for your little one. I may be able to accommodate a dog that cannot be left home alone, depending on the specifics, please ask if this is the case. Your dog's safety is my first priority, followed by creating a fun and relaxing environment for your little one. You can relax knowing that your dog is in great hands and enjoying their own doggie vacation. I only accept dog-friendly small dogs under 20 pounds, so your little one will have size-appropriate buddies to play with! I manage drop offs and pickups with safety in mind, and I'm very happy to offer pick up and delivery to make your boarding experience as convenient as possible!
“Appreciate Jasmine for taking the time to check on my pup when I’m at work. She even agreed to a last minute drop in when my sitter had to cancel on me. I will continue to use her services whenever I needed them.”

About: Hi! My name is Emily. I am 18 years old and a huge animal lover! Growing up in a busy household with four siblings, I’m very used to a high-energy environment and know exactly how to stay calm and organized when looking after pets. I love pet sitting because it’s a great way to give dogs and cats the individual attention they need while giving owners peace of mind. Some of my favorite things to do are coaching softball and going to church, so I’m naturally active and love being outdoors for dog walks—but I’m just as happy staying inside to keep a cat company. I currently work part-time, which allows me to easily fit pet care into my weekly routine. I am happy to help with feedings, exercise, litter boxes, and of course, plenty of belly rubs or chin scratches. I’d love to help look after your furry family members! I currently work part-time, which gives me a flexible schedule that allows me to prioritize your pets' needs. I am very organized with my weekly planning, so I can easily coordinate feedings, walks, and playtime around my softball coaching and other commitments. I’m happy to work with you to create a consistent routine that ensures your pet feels loved and well-attended while you are away. While I don't have a fenced yard, I am very diligent about keeping dogs securely leashed during all of our outdoor potty breaks and walks. I’ll make sure your pet gets plenty of supervised exercise and playtime while staying safe and comfortable in my care.

Cat parents share their Rover experiences - Essex
Erica took the time to meet my cats before committing to providing care. She asked good questions, so it was clear she understood the issues, and was prepared. I was impressed with her punctuality and reliability, and how she quickly leaned how to care for a cat with diabetes. During each visit, she provided solid, informative feedback. I will absolutely use Erica again!

Jennifer has been absolutely great. The cats can’t wait to see her. Always on time and will communicate if she can’t be. Knowledgeable about what to look for with senior cats without even asking. She has done house sits for me when I go away and mid day drop ins when I have long work days. My definite go to.

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Essex. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
