We couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! From the moment we met, it was clear how much She genuinely care about animals. She took the time to learn our dog’s routine, personality, and little quirks, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Throughout the stay, we received regular updates, photos, and messages, which made it easy to relax knowing our dog was happy, safe, and well cared for. It was obvious our dog was getting plenty of attention, exercise, and love. When we returned, everything was just as we left it, and our dog was calm, content, and clearly well taken care of. It’s such a relief to find someone we trust completely with our pet. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable, kind, and attentive dog sitter—and we will definitely be booking with them again!

About: I've had large dogs my whole life and have been pet sitting for countless neighbors over the years—so much so that I'm known around the neighborhood as 'the dog man.' Taking care of dogs has always come naturally to me, and I actually find their presence really calming, especially while studying for the MCAT. It's a great way to take a break and recharge I’m currently studying full-time for the MCAT, so I’m looking for a quiet way to make some coffee money on the side. Being around dogs is actually super calming for me, especially during long study days. "Whether I’m caring for pets in my home or at a client’s, I try to keep things as stress-free and consistent as possible for the animal. I stick closely to their usual routine—walks, feeding times, playtime, and any specific care instructions. I make sure they get plenty of attention, exercise, and love. I’m big on communication too, so I always keep the owners updated with how their pets are doing. Since I’m home studying for the MCAT most of the day, I’m around a lot to make sure they’re safe, comfortable, and happy.

She stayed in our home and was very respectful in keeping everything picked up and clean, while still making herself comfortable with Scoobie. We were very comfortable and relaxed knowing that Scoobie was in good hands as she was great about communicating with us and sending pictures. We definitely are using her again!!!

About: I’m Caroline, a 30-year-old dog lover with nearly two decades of experience caring for dogs of all sizes, ages, and personalities. I aim to make every dog feel safe, comfortable, and loved while their family is away. I’m patient, dependable, and detail-oriented, and I adapt easily to each dog’s individual needs. Whether your dog has a simple routine or a more involved one—including exercise, feeding, medications, or other specialized care—I’m happy to follow all instructions exactly as provided. I’m comfortable with walks, exercise, brushing, feeding, cleaning up after pets, reinforcing basic training, and caring for dogs who need extra attention or structure. I understand how much trust it takes to leave both your dog and your home in someone else’s care, and I take that responsibility seriously. Your dog’s well-being is always my top priority. Pet care fits well into my schedule. I currently have a flexible routine and will be starting a graduate program this fall in Counseling Psychology that meets three consecutive days per month. I expect to be able to comfortably balance my studies and pet care within my schedule. I provide care in client homes and follow all instructions carefully to maintain each pet’s normal routine. I pay close attention to feeding, exercise, medications, and any special care requirements to ensure consistency and comfort for the pet. I also treat every home with respect, keeping things clean and tidy during and after each visit.

About: I have been taking care of dogs for years. I was responsible for looking after my family dogs, as well as sitting for family friends. Walking, feeding, medication, etc will not be a problem at all. Your dog will be cared for as if they were my own. I work remotely from home so I have availability to step away at any moment to care for your pet. If you need somebody to come by just for a walk, I can do that. If you need somebody to come and stay with your pet then I can do that as well. I live in a 3 BR apartment with a cat and another dog so I would not be able to keep your animal here overnight

About: I have years of experience caring for both cats and dogs, and I take the responsibility seriously. That means daily walks for dogs, meals served on time, and attentive care for animals with specific routines around feeding or walking. I clean up after pets consistently, both inside and out, and keep the home tidy throughout the stay so you come back to a space that feels well cared for. I also handle the practical things, bringing in mail, taking out trash, watering plants, and keeping an eye on the overall flow of the home. My goal is always for pets to feel settled and loved, and for the home to feel just as you left it. I currently work from home and see clients part time. About: Hi, I’m Courtney! I’m based right in CDM steps from Crystal Cove, and I absolutely love what I do. My days are spent walking the coast, hiking the trails, and giving dogs the kind of attention and care that actually makes a difference. It’s genuinely my favorite part of my day. I’ve had dogs of my own for 15+ years and have experience with a wide range of breeds I can read body language, understand what a dog needs in the moment, and adjust on the fly. I have a special love for working breeds and high-energy dogs who actually want to do something on a walk. I work from home running a wellness business, so your dog gets real time and presence not someone rushing between jobs. Walks with me mean actual coastal adventures: Crystal Cove trails, Little Corona Beach, tide pool paths with ocean views. I’m an early riser, I keep a consistent schedule, and I pay attention to how your dog is feeling that day. My home is calm, clean, and non-toxic that’s just how I live. Good energy, no chaos, and plenty of cozy spots to decompress between adventures. You’ll get photos and updates so you always know they’re happy and well. I keep my roster small because I actually want to know your dog their quirks, their favorite spots, what makes them light up. Whether you need a reliable daily walker or someone to love on them while you travel, I’d love to meet them! 🐾 Working from home in my fitness & nutrition business means pets get constant attention and care. It's a daily dose of exercise and joy that complements my healthy lifestyle. Walks, fetch, or just quiet moments, pets make my day and yours brighter! When it comes to pet care, it's all about their turf. I'm a firm believer in maintaining their routine at home, where they're comfy and happy. I seamlessly fit into their schedule, whether it's mealtime, playtime, or cuddle time. Rest assured, your pet's happiness and well-being are my top priorities!

About: I've house-sit for dogs for family friends and am surrounded by many people with well-loved pets in their homes. As a prior teacher to middle/high school kids, I consider myself fairly patient and understanding as a person, and that of course is included in my love for animals as well! I'm currently self-employed with a very flexible schedule since I generally work late at night (as a creative). But, I still love to find excuses to get out of the house, especially to walk and explore new areas, so would definitely love to have the company of a furry friend! Most of the dogs I've taken care of have had very particular needs for diets, or house rules from their owners, so I'm very easy to adjust to accommodate as needed. I also consider myself fairly active and healthy, so especially for walks, am happy to go as long as needed!

About: Hello! I have been taking care of animals since I was a kid and got my first pet. We have had three cats and two dogs that I have grown up with and helped to take care of. Both of my dogs were rescues and I have fostered dogs from the Humane Society so I am familiar with the extra TLC that may need to be given to rescue pups due to some having difficult backgrounds before being rescued. I helped my family train both dogs when they were little. I love all kinds of dogs big and small. I also am very familiar with cats and have had a ton of experience with them as well having helped my family raise 3 cats. I am unable to adopt any animals where I am currently living so I would love the opportunity to treat your animal like it was my own and love on them because I miss having that in my life! My schedule is very flexible and is mostly work from home. There are a few days that I need to report to the job site. I can make sure your pet gets to stick to its normal routine in your home and will ensure that they are well taken care of!

Megan watched our two dogs and we couldn’t have left them in better hands. We recently moved and our dogs were adjusting to being in a new home/ location and she spent time getting to know them, showing them patience, and providing the best care. She stayed in contact with us and provided pictures of their daily “adventures” in the park. She also took great care of our home and went above and beyond with the tiny details. We look forward to having her take care of our dogs again!

Amerys was AMAZING! I left Scout with her while I was in Newport for a wedding, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. She was incredibly communicative, flexible, and went above and beyond by helping coordinate Scout’s pickup and drop-off since I wasn’t able to drive after the wedding. This was the first time I had left Scout since her cancer diagnosis 19 months ago, so I was very nervous. Amerys’s communication was honestly 20/10 and gave me so much peace of mind. She kept me updated, was so attentive to Scout, and made the entire experience feel easy and stress-free. I’m so grateful I found her and would absolutely book with her again. If I’m ever back in Newport, she will 100% be the first person I reach out to! Highly recommend Amerys! ❤️

Nick was a wonderful overnight sitter for Mango. We really appreciated the regular photo and video updates, and he was always responsive to our messages. Eva R. is the gold standard of house and pet sitters! I just returned from a 9-day vacation and couldn't be happier with the exceptional care Eva provided for both my home and my Boston Bulldog, Falcon. From our very first interaction, Eva was incredibly professional, highly communicative, and deeply attentive to Falcon’s and my specific routines and quirks. It was completely obvious that Eva wasn't just doing a job, but truly bonding with Falcon as a genuine companion. When I got home, Falcon was calm, happy, and clearly well-loved. To top it off, the house was absolutely immaculate. Finding someone you can trust implicitly with your pet and your home is rare. Eva is reliable, trustworthy, and an absolute joy to work with. FAQs for House Sitting - Costa Mesa

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Costa Mesa on Rover is $56.44 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 6,507 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Costa Mesa. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Costa Mesa walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Costa Mesa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Costa Mesa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Costa Mesa. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
