“Elizabeth stayed in our home for 5 days to take care of our dog, and she was great. Our dog usually doesn’t feel comfortable with strangers and needs time to trust new people, but Elizabeth was very patient and calm with her. She took the time to build a connection, and it really helped our dog feel safe around her. She also took very good care of our dog during the whole time. We really appreciate her help and would definitely recommend her.”

“Weini gave me lots of updates and I heard good things from my dog park friends that pepper was vey well behaved with Weini! I trust them to take care of pepper and know she is in good care.”

“Carrie was absolutely fantastic and we plan to use her anytime we travel (if she accepts!)! Our cat is pretty friendly but from the first second of meeting Carrie she took to her so well. You can tell Carrie has a way with pets, she also made us feel so comfortable. I also have a severe gluten allergy and Carrie was kind enough to make sure she didn’t bring much into the house, she truly goes above and beyond. Also, I swear my house is so much cleaner than we left it, THANK YOU! We highly recommend Carrie if you’re looking for peace of mind.”

“Danielle took great care of our grumpy persian during a week of cat sitting in our place. We received daily updates and photos and were never in doubt about our cat wellbeing during our holidays. Danielle is attentive, considerate and friendly, has a calming presence that our low energy cat appreciated and on top of that kept our place extra tidy. We can’t recommend her enough!”

“Svetlana was very sweet and reliable. She put us at ease. We were confident and assured that our cat was in good hands with her and were able to enjoy a few days away from home without worry. She provided regular updates with lots of photos. Would definitely recommend her services.”

“I am so thankful that Sinead was available to stay with Bear and Leon while I was away last week:) Her care and attention to their needs is appreciated and I know they had a great week! She sent thoughtful updates and adjusted to Bear’s needs throughout her stay. She treated the house as her own and it was neat and tidy on our return. A heartfelt thank you from all of us and I will definitely reach out next time we are planning to travel! All the best, Merrill”

“Elizabeth is absolutely wonderful and caring. Not sure if my dogs actually wanted her to leave. Will definitely book again. She went above and beyond in the care of my babies. Thank you Elizabeth”

“Our pup has separation anxiety and can be wary of new people, but Valeria did such a great job of connecting with her and making her feel comfortable. I was surprised to learn she didn’t bark once. Valeria is detailed oriented, trustworthy and was great at communication. I would highly recommend Valeria!”

“Victoria house sat for us for a weekend and took care of our 4-year-old dog and cat. She was great to work with, straightforward and clear, sent us photos, answered texts promptly, and was thoughtful in offering to be on late night stand-by in case our flight got in later than we expected. Our dog and cat were happy with her so they're suggesting we book her again next time. We certainly will contact her again next time we're away.”

“Gaby looked after my two cats at my house and during this time I knew that my babies were under the best care! She followed the care instructions well and was very communicative, which really helped an anxious cat mom like me. I received many pictures throughout my trip and came back to very happy cattos. Thank you Gaby!”

“Incredibly grateful for the wonderful care Daisy provided to our three kitties during an emergency three-week trip out of the country. Came home to three happy healthy kitties and a clean and orderly apartment. Our cats were sooooo much happier with the extended time and care they received with Daisy than the drop-in brief catsitting visits we've paid for in the past. Daisy communicated with us regularly and transparently, sent plenty of photos, and any concerns she had we were able to address in a timely fashion. She put in the time to get to know the cats and they bonded well with her and were very happy in their care and we felt secure in the knowledge they were getting plenty of love and attention. Will not hesitate to rehire Daisy. Thank you again!”

“Gracen was absolutely brilliant with my cats! She took care of all their needs - played with them, cuddled them, and made sure they ate well. One of my cats needs daily medication and she gave it to him with no difficulties. She was super communicative, sending me updates and photos regularly each day. She cleaned and tidied everything (including a bit of a mess the cats made, tearing around the house one day!) I will be hiring her back every time I'm away now! I highly, highly recommend her!”

“This was our second time having Jessica house and pet sit for us and we could not be happier. She took great care of our girls and we loved her daily updates and photos. Knowing Paisley and Midnight are in her capable hands and affection gives such peace of mind while we are away. Her little extra touches and tidiness are also a delight to come home to. Thanks Jessica - we hope you will come back again!”

“Maria was perfect! We got updates throughout the day with pictures, she was thorough with instructions, and best of all the dog and cat absolutely loved her. We booked with Maria last minute and she still made time for a meet & greet before the stay. Would highly recommend her and will book with her again!”
“Alisha took excellent care of our pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) in our home for 2.5 weeks. We loved the daily updates and it was such a relief to see how much fun the animals were having. Thank you!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Toronto
Carrie is an amazing sitter. She has watched our dog a handful of times now and we recommend her to everyone we know. She is so communicative, friendly, and always leaves our home cleaner than how we left it. Truly could not thank her enough and will continue to book with her for as long as we can :)

Joanna house sat for us for 4 night. I can’t recommend her enough! She’s lovely and very professional. She is kind, considerate, communicative and Oliver absolutely loved her. We enjoyed our experience very much and were quite relaxed while traveling, knowing she was staking great care of our (dog) child.

Ira and her husband are amazing! Our dog is a very anxious dog. They have won her over - she will roll on her back for belly rubs. Ira also incredibly communicative- in a positive way. She sends screen shots of the walking routes, along with a few pictures and videos each day. We always knew things were going well. She also took great care of the house when we were gone - taking out the garbage, etc. She even washed the sheets and put them back on the bed clean before she left. She did everything perfectly! We trust her completely and could not ask for better. We have used her for every trip we’ve been on for the last two years - and will keep doing so.

This was my first time using Rover and I was so happy to find Sinead! I was up north camping for 4 days, and I felt at ease knowing Sinead was staying with my kitties while I was gone. She sent me updates and cute photos each day. She was quick to reply, and professional throughout the whole process. I came home to a tidy apartment and happy kitties. Will definitely book Sinead again in the future! Thanks Sinead! :)

She was absolutely wonderful with Cheetah! She was so kind and caring, and spent lots of time playing with him. She was also very flexible with scheduling and kept me updated with photos and videos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. She followed all of my instructions perfectly and took such great care of him. Cheetah absolutely loved her! I would definitely recommend her and would happily book her again. ❤️

Gaby looked after my two cats at my house and during this time I knew that my babies were under the best care! She followed the care instructions well and was very communicative, which really helped an anxious cat mom like me. I received many pictures throughout my trip and came back to very happy cattos. Thank you Gaby!

Carole was really great!! She took amazing care of our puppy and sent us lots of updates and photos. It was Fideo’s first time with a pet sitter since we adopted him, and it went really well! He felt very comfortable with her and was calm and happy when we returned. We would definitely have Carole take care of Fideo again. Thank you Carole! 😊

Yibo did a phenomenal job of looking after our cats, Karl and Lionel while we were away. He was incredibly caring, attentive and thorough and he really took this responsibility seriously. Yibo updated us regularly on how the cats were doing. He provided important details in his updates and sent lots of photos. He also asked really good questions and was overall very thoughtful and kind. One of our cats has asthma and Yibo was very committed and diligent with giving him his asthma spray. It was clear that the cats felt very comfortable with him and I'm sure they already miss him. I would definitely love to work with Yibo again and I highly recommend him. Thanks for the excellent work!

Jessica took care of our two standard schnauzers and our house for 8 days. She did a great job. Knows and understands dog care explicitly. The house was well taken care of as well. Jessica is responsive and communicative. She also kept us up to date every day we were away with pictures and a note. We came home to two very well cared for pooches that were happy and healthy. We would recommend Jessica highly with no hesitation. Jessica is also diligent in her preparation on a bespoke basis. She ensures all the bases are covered before she arrives to do the sitting. Lastly we found her to be very flexible.

We had such a wonderful experience with Arya! She was incredibly kind, communicative, and attentive throughout her stay. She made sure our dogs got plenty of walks, love, and attention, and they absolutely adored her from the moment they met her. 🐶❤️ She even took the time to teach them some new tricks, which was such a sweet bonus! It was clear how comfortable and happy they were with her. We felt completely at ease knowing our pups were in such caring hands. We would happily recommend Arya and will definitely have her sit for our dogs again! 🐾✨

Danielle was wonderful with Rocco! She was very professional, took him on plenty of walks, and went above and beyond to make sure he felt comfortable and settled while we were away. We really appreciated the care she gave our little guy and would happily book with her again!

Sydney was absolutely wonderful with Laith and Shiv! She was so caring, attentive, and genuinely made an effort to make sure they both felt comfortable and happy while we were away. Shiv can sometimes have a hard time adjusting to new people, but Sydney was incredibly patient with her and kept doing everything she could to earn her trust. It meant so much to us to see that that Shiv grew to love and trust her. Laith loved her as well! Sydney kept us updated frequently with messages, photos, and videos, which gave us so much peace of mind. She also spent plenty of time playing with them and keeping them company, and just from looking at the pictures and videos, we could tell how much fun they were having and how comfortable they were with her. We are so grateful for the care and attention Sydney gave Laith and Shiv. We would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for someone they can trust with their pets, and we will definitely be booking with Sydney again! ❤️🐾

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Toronto on Rover is $60.8 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 3,965 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Toronto. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Toronto maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Toronto walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Toronto choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 81% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 86% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
