“Danielle was a fabulous sitter my our puppy, Cupcake! It was our first time having to leave her overnight and Danielle Cameron for a meet and greet first to make sure Cupcake would be comfortable with her, she stayed an extra hour when our return time was delayed and kept us informed of how Cupcake was doing and sent us pictures. Cupcake was well cared for and I would highly reccomended Danielle - we will be asking her to sit again in the future for sure!! 5 plus stars!”

“Sydney is amazing. Out puppy KoKo is 13 weeks and can be a handful as is playful, busy and teething. Sydney took it all in her stride. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a pet sitter. Will book her again when needed.”

“I can’t recommend Victoria enough! Victoria cared for our pup Jacko at our home for several days while we were away. When she came for a meet and greet Jacko immediately loved her and she was incredibly diligent about understanding all the details before we left. She was super flexible when there was a last minute change in our schedule. While we were away Victoria sent us consistent updates and went above and beyond to make sure Jacko was well loved and our home was also well cared for, even through a huge winter storm and a couple different care exchanges with family members! Jacko is a mid-sized mixed breed rescue and is a gem but is reactive to other dogs, so we’re always a bit nervous about who we leave him with. With Victoria, we could be totally at ease knowing he would be in good hands. I’d definitely recommend Victoria if you’re looking for someone reliable and caring person to watch your furry loved one.”

“Christopher stayed with our dog for the first time last night and I cannot say enough about his care of our Cupcake! He took her on a nice walk, took care of all of her needs and made her feel extra special with little touches like watching Dog TV. Christopher sent us updates and pictures which made us feel extra secure and allowed us to enjoy our time out! Will be booking again!”

“Elizabeth stayed in our home for 5 days to take care of our dog, and she was great. Our dog usually doesn’t feel comfortable with strangers and needs time to trust new people, but Elizabeth was very patient and calm with her. She took the time to build a connection, and it really helped our dog feel safe around her. She also took very good care of our dog during the whole time. We really appreciate her help and would definitely recommend her.”

“Clare took great care of our kitties and home while we were away - she has a gentle and calm presence and we felt safe and assured that she would well-manage things. We came home to a tidy house and happy cats!”

“Carrie was absolutely fantastic and we plan to use her anytime we travel (if she accepts!)! Our cat is pretty friendly but from the first second of meeting Carrie she took to her so well. You can tell Carrie has a way with pets, she also made us feel so comfortable. I also have a severe gluten allergy and Carrie was kind enough to make sure she didn’t bring much into the house, she truly goes above and beyond. Also, I swear my house is so much cleaner than we left it, THANK YOU! We highly recommend Carrie if you’re looking for peace of mind.”

“Lily was so kind and accommodating for us and our pup. She has a very calming energy that I am sure our pup could feel! I would certainly recommend working with her and look forward to working with her again :)”

“Eric. has walked Buddy several times over the few months and this week he stayed at the house while we were away. everything was great. Eric is a pro and Buddy loves him. We will do this again.”

“Elizabeth is incredible. Our pup is very anxious and needs a great deal of encouragement. When Elizabeth came for the meet and greet she allowed Silo to take his time warming up to her and ensured that their first interaction was positive and puppy-led. Elizabeth’s calm demeanour and knowledge of how to approach and build trust in animals gave us the confidence we needed to leave Silo in her care while we travelled out of country. She came prepared with treats, poop bags and lots of love for our pup. We were updated daily with photos and videos of Silo. Elizabeth went the extra mile to ensure that we had landed safely before she left our home. We would recommend Elizabeth to any and all people looking for a trustworthy, professional, and magical pet sitter.”

“From the moment Laura stepped into our house, Ziggy was smitten! It is obvious that Laura (like us) is a true dog lover. Our getaway was worry free, and we came home to a very happy dog, and a nice clean house. Laura was very communicative, did not hesitate to ask questions and followed all of our requests. Would not hesitate to use her again!”

“I am so thankful that Sinead was available to stay with Bear and Leon while I was away last week:) Her care and attention to their needs is appreciated and I know they had a great week! She sent thoughtful updates and adjusted to Bear’s needs throughout her stay. She treated the house as her own and it was neat and tidy on our return. A heartfelt thank you from all of us and I will definitely reach out next time we are planning to travel! All the best, Merrill”

“This was one of the first times we left our 5-month-old puppy with a sitter, and William did an outstanding job. From the beginning, he asked all the right questions about Barkley and kept in great communication with us throughout. He sent occasional updates, which really helped put our minds at ease. Barkley clearly felt comfortable—he even ran after William to say goodbye when he left! It usually takes him a while to settle without us, but he adjusted surprisingly quickly. We've already booked William again - thank you William!”

“Our little pup was so comfortable with Gadir. Throughout the visit she sent us updates so we could see how our girl was doing, and left our home in pristine shape. Our golden was relaxed and clearly received lots of love. We’ll definitely be booking Gadir again!”

“Alisa was great, she came and stayed in our home for 4 nights with our dog. I received regular updates and I know our dog was in good hands. If she had any questions, she asked and I felt very comfortable with her in our home. I would definitely recommend Alisa to anyone.”

“Rema was absolutely amazing. She gave me regular updates with pictures or short videos of my pups throughout my entire vacation. She was caring and followed all my notes for my babies Zeus and Athena. I have already asked her to watch them for a work trip I will be going on for another week in a month from now. I highly recommend Rema!!! Thank you ❤️”

“Thank you my dear Your action in an emergency situation and home to a clean and tidy place makes me so incredibly happy and trusting .. I really appreciate all you have done even if I was not available on line to respond fast enough but you handled a difficult situation and for that I am incredibly greatful”

“We wholeheartedly recommend Maria’s services. From the moment we met her, her calm demeanor and positive energy put us at ease, making it easy to trust her with our furry baby. Depsite us running a bit late after an event, Maria graciously stayed a little longer to ensure we returned before she left. Would love to continue with her services in the future!”

Ciara stayed for 2 weeks in June to look after my cat Lillie and my condo/plants. She provided photos and updates of Lillie while I was away. Upon returning home Ciara had done the laundry and vacuuming which was unexpected and thoughtful. I definately recommend Ciara to look after your fur baby and home.
Emma looked after our cockapoo for a week and was a wonderful sitter! Our pup has severe separation anxiety and Emma was patient and kind allowing our pup to relax and feel secure. She was also very good at sending us daily updates and videos and was great at communicating with us.

Manjot went above and beyond with her care of my cat Garth! She is kind, gentle and confident with cats. She is communicative, skilled, exceptionally tidy, most of all I came home to a calm and happy cat. Thanks Manjot! We will look forward to contacting you again! Mary and Garth

Nishan was really amazing with hiuse sitting our cat Baba. She kept us updated with frequent pictures like we asked, and treated our place very respectfully. Would recommend her easily, and she was very communicative leading up to and during the meet and greet!

Maria was amazing! She was so friendly and took wonderful care of my dog and cat. She house sat them while I was away and sent lots of photos. Quick to respond, seemed to love animals, and they had a blast with her. It was a last minute booking but she accomdated me and I was so grateful. Lovely soul and very trustworthy.

Jessica was a lovely pet and house sitter! She sent us lots of updates and photos while we were away, so we knew our boy Beaux was being well looked after. She is an excellent communicator and took very good care of our home. We would definitely book Jessica again for our next trip!

Krystina was awesome, and we will definitely be using her again in the future…. She stayed in our home for two weeks while we were away and took excellent care of our dogs. From the moment we returned, it was clear they were comfortable, happy, and well cared for! She provided regular updates, which gave us great peace of mind. Krystina was respectful of our home, kept everything clean, and even went the extra mile by washing the bedsheets before we returned. We have both a senior dog and a younger, more reactive dog, and she handled their different needs with ease. Thank you again Krystina for taking such great care of our pups and our home. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring pet sitter. :)

Circumstances required me for the first time to leave my 11 year dog constant companion for 5 days with someone she didn’t know. I was undoubtedly more nervous that Lucy! In a word, Gadir was great. She came for a get-to-know-you visit, to meet Lucy and see the house. I felt reassured right away. She asked all the right questions, then and as a few things arose during the visit, and provided reassuring daily updates during her stay. Our sometimes cranky older cat warmed to her well! We came home to happy pets and an immaculate house. I’m delighted to give a 100% recommendation for Gadir, especially for first time Rover users. Thanks so much, Gadir.

Celina was wonderful she took care of our puppy for a couple days while we were at our daughter’s wedding. She was very good at communicating and sent lots of pictures and videos. I would definitely have her back again thank you so much for taking such good care of our pup.

Gustavo is an amazing pet sitter and we highly recommend him. Our dog absolutely loved him and our super shy cat even hung out with him, and usually that takes quite the amount of time. Gustavo is very sweet and obviously loves animals. We look forward to having him pet sit again!

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Toronto maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Toronto walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Toronto choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 80% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 87% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
