“Taiah is absolutely lovely. She’s been so easy to communicate with. I felt very confident and comfortable when we met her. She stayed at our place to take care of our dog Daisy and her cat Harry. We got updates, and sweet photographs. We came home to happy animals who were obviously well cared for. Thank you, Taiah!”

“Wilson is the best dog sitter there is! He sent me many pictures daily and updated me on my pup Luna throughout the day. He made me feel at ease that Luna was being taken care of like a princess while I was away. I will definitely use Wilson again to doggy sit!”

“Weini is a reliable cat sitter. She took very good care of both my cat and my plants. She sent lots of pictures and my cat enjoys her company. She also kept my place clean exactly like how it was when I left and took care of the garbage / bedding / litter disposal. Absolutely 10/10. Would recommend to my friends.”

“Mala is the most attentive and generous care-giver! She asked lots of great questions and was clearly so capable. My kitty was clearly delighted to be spending the weekend with her, according to the videos :) He was happy and calm when I got back. As a houseguest, she is delightful - I am convinced she left my apartment cleaner than before! Would recommend Mala to anyone, anytime.”

“Josh was great! Helped me navigate the app as a new user and was flexible when our plans changed. Showed up early and was super kind to our nervous puppy (and puppy parents!!!) We would definitely reach out for Josh again when we are in the city!”

“This is the second time we've used Michael to house site our pups, and honestly, absolutely no notes! Micheal and Sheep are amazing and we'd absolutely trust him with his children again 🐕🐾🐕”

“Melanie is a sweetheart - she offered a meet and greet before our sit, took time to settle in with Cooper, and was able to connect with him pretty instantly. Thank you! Will be booking again in the future”

“I can’t recommend Victoria enough! Victoria cared for our pup Jacko at our home for several days while we were away. When she came for a meet and greet Jacko immediately loved her and she was incredibly diligent about understanding all the details before we left. She was super flexible when there was a last minute change in our schedule. While we were away Victoria sent us consistent updates and went above and beyond to make sure Jacko was well loved and our home was also well cared for, even through a huge winter storm and a couple different care exchanges with family members! Jacko is a mid-sized mixed breed rescue and is a gem but is reactive to other dogs, so we’re always a bit nervous about who we leave him with. With Victoria, we could be totally at ease knowing he would be in good hands. I’d definitely recommend Victoria if you’re looking for someone reliable and caring person to watch your furry loved one.”

“Megan is a one of a kind dog sitter. My dog has a really hard time trusting new people and had recently snapped at a dog sitter. She is a reactive large breed (106lbs) and when we told megan about these issues, she approached them with compassion and confidence and my dog felt that immediately. Megan took our tips for navigating the dogs trust very seriously, my dog warmed to her completely. We usually have issues with her not eating while were away because of anxiety, but she had none of these issues with megan which speaks volumes about how comfortable she was. On top of handling our dog so well, she was communicative, provided updates, and left the house shining. She even went above and beyond to wash the sheets for our return. All of this is so appreciated after a long travel day. I not only will 100% use megan again, but i highly recommend for others who struggle with large breed reactive dogs. Sitters who can handles these dogs are so hard to come by and Megan is exactly that! Thank you so so much.”

“Sarah was fabulous with my cat Billy. She was very engaged in learning his routines, habits and little quirks. He is very nervous with people he doesn’t know but gradually warmed up with Sarah. She provided me with twice daily updates and photos so I could see how comfortable he was. Sarah has a lot of experience with pets as she works at a vet clinic, so I was not at all worried as he was in the best hands. Highly recommend Sarah.”

“My Westies adore Lyna. It would clear to anyone that Lyna is able to bond easily with pets. She provided frequent updates and pictures. Such a nice feeling to have our pets care for in our home and have our home cared for as well. Thank you Lyna. See you soon.”

“Jonathan is a nice person. He took such good care of Rosie. Rosie is only one year old and we wanted someone with experience and loved cats. Jonathan is the one. We were reassured of her care because he would send us photos of Rosie playing and cuddling with him. He stayed with her for 15 days and when she say my husband and I we noticed that she was happy. Thank you Jonathan. All our best, Gabriella, John and Rosie”

“Susan did such a wonderful job taking care of Arlo! I loved that she always communicated, replied back quickly, sent picture and fostered a caring environment for Arlo - he definitely fell in love with her :) I really recommend Susan as your pet sitter she is wonderful!”

About: I was raised on a hobby farm with dogs, cats, horses, a donkey, fish and ferrets. I love being around animals and taking care of them. I can do anything from mucking stalls to taking dogs on 5km walks. I’ve had big dogs, small dogs and everything in between. Including handling 1700 pound horses. I love animals like they’re family and promise to show your pets the care and compassion they deserve. I work full time currently from 7am-3:30pm. But my house is close to major bus routes and subway stations. I also have a vehicle and am willing to drive to provide care for your pets. I am free most weeknights and can build my schedule around your pets needs. During the summer I am off on weekends and have open flexibility to spend them however I choose. Which could be looking after your fur babies! I will happily visit and play with your pets, feed or walk them. If house sitting is needed, you will find the house just as you left it and with a very happy pet when you come home.
“Gloria was a great house sitter for us and our pets. Very responsive with pictures and updates. Handled our reactive dog very well! Great experience, will be using Gloria again for longer travels.”

“Marg was fantastic! She is very knowledgeable, kind and loving! She took great care of our dog and our house while we were away. It was reassuring to have someone experienced and dependable looking after our pup! She sent pictures every day and took him out sometimes up to four walks a day. We came home to a sparklingly clean house and she even cooked dinner for the whole family! It was so nice to come back to a home cooked meal after a busy day travelling. We can’t recommend Marg enough!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - East York
Smokey can be a challenging dog with new people. He’s very loving with our family, but he’s reactive and can take a long time to become comfortable with strangers. Laura was incredibly patient with him and took the time to earn his trust. By the time we were away, Smokey was actually coming up to her and nudging her hand to ask for pets — something we’ve only ever seen him do with us. We’ve had a number of dog sitters over the years, and he has never responded to anyone as well as he did to Laura. Laura was also very thorough and professional. Before our trip, she took lots of notes and asked smart questions about Smokey and his routines, and while we were away she kept in touch whenever needed. She also took great care of our house. Most importantly, this was by far the easiest transition home we’ve ever had after leaving Smokey with a sitter. He was happy, relaxed and clearly very well cared for. We felt completely comfortable having Laura look after him and will definitely be working with her again.

Another great cat sitting experience with Paul and Katie taking care of our cat Olive. We can go away and not worry about our how she’s being cared for which is fantastic. Olive is diabetic and needs daily insulin shots and can be a bit of a diva and Paul and Katie know all her tricks and we come home to a relaxed cat and a spotless home!

Carmen took great care of our senior cat Beau and our place during our 10 day vacation. She even watered my vegetable garden during her stay. Beau normally takes a while to warm up to new people but he and Carmen became great pals. Our cat also has a very particular feeding schedule and can be very needy, but this didn’t phase Carmen. This was our first time using Rover and it went pretty smoothly. I’d recommend Carmen to anyone looking for a cat sitter.

Lyna is the best! Made time to come do a little meet and greet with our dog a few days before the booking and was so sweet with Reggie from minute one. He absolutely loved her and so did we. She sent us updates throughout the night, lots of cute pictures and was overall just a really communicative and friendly pet sitter. So happy we found her :)

Melissa was phenomenal! We were looking for a sitter on short notice and it was our first time using Rover, so we were cautiously optimistic. She exceeded our expectations. Melissa is so communicative, friendly, reliable and great with dogs. She sent us pictures and gave use regular updates which made us feel so at ease. Would totally recommend her services.

We had a great experience with Wilson and Jan! They took wonderful care of Luna and Binx and kept us updated throughout our trip with pictures and videos, which gave us peace of mind while we were away. They even made homemade liver treats for Luna, which she absolutely loved. We would happily recommend them to friends and would definitely book with them again in the future.

Manuela was amazing with our dogs! She was reliable, caring, and kept us updated while we were away. We felt completely at ease knowing they were in such good hands. Our dogs were happy and well cared for. We had a fantastic experience with her and would definitely hire her again. Highly recommended!

Bethany took amazing care of our cats and home. She was contentious, communicative, and very kind. She took out our recycling etc for pick-up, took care of bedding, and even offered to water the garden. We came back to a spotless house and two relaxed, happy cats. Thanks Bethany!

Lily was absolutely wonderful with my cat! She was so caring, attentive, and kept me updated while I was away, which gave me so much peace of mind. I could tell my cat was comfortable and well taken care of when I got home. I really appreciated how reliable and thoughtful Lily was, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for someone to care for their pets. I’ll definitely be booking with her again! ❤️

Coco was great! She sent plenty of updates and took care of my elderly diabetic cat with zero issues. My cat was barely cared we came home haha. The house was pristine when we came back and Coco did a fabulous job of keeping my garden alive 🤩 Would absolutely recommend her for pet sitting!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in East York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred East York walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in East York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 81% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 87% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
