“Taiah is absolutely lovely. She’s been so easy to communicate with. I felt very confident and comfortable when we met her. She stayed at our place to take care of our dog Daisy and her cat Harry. We got updates, and sweet photographs. We came home to happy animals who were obviously well cared for. Thank you, Taiah!”

“Sydney was an amazing, trustworthy sitter! She was a great communicator and made us feel totally comfortable. She’s super knowledgeable about cats and bonded with ours so quickly!”

“Devin took such great care of Alice! She sent photos daily and gave frequent updates of their snuggles :) Alice can take time to warm up to people and I felt at ease knowing how patient Devin was with her! Devin also left the house tidy and helped take care of an ongoing fruit fly problem!! 10/10 would recommend :)”

“Weini gave me lots of updates and I heard good things from my dog park friends that pepper was vey well behaved with Weini! I trust them to take care of pepper and know she is in good care.”

“Melanie is a sweetheart - she offered a meet and greet before our sit, took time to settle in with Cooper, and was able to connect with him pretty instantly. Thank you! Will be booking again in the future”

“Marg was fantastic! She is very knowledgeable, kind and loving! She took great care of our dog and our house while we were away. It was reassuring to have someone experienced and dependable looking after our pup! She sent pictures every day and took him out sometimes up to four walks a day. We came home to a sparklingly clean house and she even cooked dinner for the whole family! It was so nice to come back to a home cooked meal after a busy day travelling. We can’t recommend Marg enough!”

“Our two mini schnauzers enjoyed an amazing 2 weeks with Briana, allowing us to take an extended vacation with peace of mind that they'd be happy and comfortable in their own home. From the start, Briana was friendly, proactive, and communicative as we met to assess fit. As our booking approached, we met again and had a lovely walk together to get a feel for handling the dogs, explore familiar routes, and discuss any final details about the housesitting and dog care. We got lovely photos and messages almost every day while we were away, detailing our dogs' exercise and adventures; we really appreciated all the open and friendly dialogue. Briana was a perfect guest and did a great job looking after the house; everything was immaculate. We honestly think the dogs are a little depressed to see her go home, but we look forward to booking her again for our next trips!”

“Maddie was fantastic. At the first meet and greet it was clear she knew just how to manage my young, enthusiastic pup Maisie, and the whole time I was away she kept me updated with photos and messages. It was quite clear Maisie had a great time with Maddie, and I'll absolutely be booking with her again in future when I need a sitter. House was cared for and tidy when I got home, and most importantly Maisie was happy and healthy!”

“Mala is the most attentive and generous care-giver! She asked lots of great questions and was clearly so capable. My kitty was clearly delighted to be spending the weekend with her, according to the videos :) He was happy and calm when I got back. As a houseguest, she is delightful - I am convinced she left my apartment cleaner than before! Would recommend Mala to anyone, anytime.”

“This was our first time using Rover so we were a bit apprehensive, but Michael alleviated all those worries immediately! They were such an amazing baby sitter and treated our two pups with the utmost respect, care, and most importantly, kindness. Gonzalo, Celeste, and Sheep (Michael's doggy daughter) had a blast together and we are grateful we found such a genuinely wonderful and fun person to take care of our children. We can't recommend Michael highly enough!”

“My second time using Megan as a sitter was as good as the first. I know my cats were well taken care of when they’re not rushing to the door the second I get home, but are content to continue their afternoon naps.”

“Stacey stayed at our house for a week while we were away and looked after our two dogs. Our dogs are young rescues and both require lots of attention. One small, one very large Rottie mix. Stacey was excellent in every way. She provided great updates to us and the dogs absolutely loved her. We returned to a spotless home and two happy, healthy dogs. We highly recommend Stacey and will use her again without question.”

About: When I was 13 years old I’ve taken care of dogs other than my own. I always loved the idea of spending time with dogs because they also make me happy and excited. I work part time and hybrid so having to dog walk would also help me get my steps in and be happy about taking care of animals! I feed them with good food, walk them at least an hour every day (when my schedule was still spacious), keeping a clean environment for them, engaging with them and not leaving them for a long time, keeping them away from dust, and I just love them like a family.
“Susan did such a wonderful job taking care of Arlo! I loved that she always communicated, replied back quickly, sent picture and fostered a caring environment for Arlo - he definitely fell in love with her :) I really recommend Susan as your pet sitter she is wonderful!”

“Sarah helped us again with Mavi and Murphy and she was incredible. So patient, kind and understanding with the humans and pets equally. We were able to have a stress free outing because of her. So grateful!”
“Wilson is the best dog sitter there is! He sent me many pictures daily and updated me on my pup Luna throughout the day. He made me feel at ease that Luna was being taken care of like a princess while I was away. I will definitely use Wilson again to doggy sit!”

“I can’t recommend Victoria enough! Victoria cared for our pup Jacko at our home for several days while we were away. When she came for a meet and greet Jacko immediately loved her and she was incredibly diligent about understanding all the details before we left. She was super flexible when there was a last minute change in our schedule. While we were away Victoria sent us consistent updates and went above and beyond to make sure Jacko was well loved and our home was also well cared for, even through a huge winter storm and a couple different care exchanges with family members! Jacko is a mid-sized mixed breed rescue and is a gem but is reactive to other dogs, so we’re always a bit nervous about who we leave him with. With Victoria, we could be totally at ease knowing he would be in good hands. I’d definitely recommend Victoria if you’re looking for someone reliable and caring person to watch your furry loved one.”

“Jonathan did an amazing job with our two Maine coons, he was super responsive and respectful with our house. I was super nervous about using rover at first because we usually have a close family friend cat sit/ house sit for us, but the experience went so seamless that we will be booking with Jonathan again in the future 10/10”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - East York
I am so grateful to have had Arisa house sit for me and take such good care of my cherished cat Lana for about a couple of weeks while I was traveling for work. Arisa is exactly what one hopes for in a pet sitter: professional, reliable, sincere, and an excellent communicator. I had a really good feeling at our meet and greet because my shy cat Lana took to Arisa very quickly. I received detailed updates and photos daily and Arisa was a great communicator. When I returned home after the trip Lana looked so well and seemed much more herself than after past cat sitting experiences - and my apartment was immaculate. I hope to rebook with Arisa and I would 100% recommend Arisa as a sitter on Rover. Thank you thank you, Arisa!

Justine stayed at my condo for 4 nights with my senior cat and was amazing. An emergency came up where my cat became ill and Justine took him to the emergency vet getting home well into the morning hours and stayed with him the following day to monitor him and make sure he was okay. Communication was key in these moments and I felt at ease at all times knowing he was in good care. I would recommend Justine and will rebook with her again anytime I am away. Thank you again Justine ⭐️

Wilson is the best dog sitter there is! He sent me many pictures daily and updated me on my pup Luna throughout the day. He made me feel at ease that Luna was being taken care of like a princess while I was away. I will definitely use Wilson again to doggy sit!

Another great experience with Paul and Katie! Any animal lover knows how much a relief it is to know your pet will be well taken care of when you go away - our Olive needs insulin twice a day and can be cautious around people but not Paul and Katie. Great communication, fun updating photos and our house looks great when we come home to our happy cat.

Lena was amazing! She took great care of our cats, watered our garden twice, and washed our bedding for our return. She was responsive and provided pictures and updates to keep our worries at bay. One of our cats snuggled right up under her chin for a pet, which is his ultimate sign of approval. Thank you so much, Lena!

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Radikha! She spent the entire day (over 8 hours) looking after our French Bulldog, Finn, and our cat, Boo, while we were at the Blue Jays game, and she was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Throughout the day, she sent us thoughtful updates, photos, and videos that gave us complete peace of mind. It was so comforting to see Finn relaxing on the bed, enjoying belly rubs, playing with his toys, getting outside for bathroom breaks, and even “cheering on” the Blue Jays! She also kept us updated on Boo, making sure he was doing well, and even took the initiative to clean his litter box so it wouldn’t smell - something we never even asked her to do but truly appreciated. What really stood out was how engaged and attentive she was. She wasn’t simply there to supervise our pets - she genuinely interacted with them, paid close attention to Finn’s behaviour (especially important given his recent health challenges), and kept us informed about everything from naps and meals to walks and playtime. Her updates were warm, thoughtful, and full of personality, making it feel like our boys were spending the day with someone who truly cared about them. Radikha was kind, professional, incredibly accommodating, and treated our home and our pets as if they were her own. We were able to enjoy our day out knowing Finn and Boo were in amazing hands. We would recommend Radikha without hesitation to anyone looking for a caring, reliable, and communicative pet sitter. We can’t wait to have her back to look after our boys again!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in East York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred East York walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in East York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 81% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 87% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
