About: As mentioned in my full profile, the last cat that my husband and I had was from the Humane Society, a black cat (Kookoo, pictured above), who had unfortunately been quarantined twice due to ringworm outbreaks during her time at the shelter. We had to learn patience and to understand her perspective—that being in another box (the apartment unit), despite all the care she was receiving while living with us, did not take away the distress from her previous life, and that it was our responsibility to care for her (which included keeping her litter-box very clean with up to twice-daily cleanings, keeping a regular routine etc.), and to understand and accept who she was, rather than expect her to completely heal from her past experiences just because she was in a healthier environment. I also have previous experience caring for my neighbours' and friends' cats, including a rescue with fearful/anxiety tendencies, a senior cat with hyperthyroidism, and a cat with epilepsy, and am used to following any medication schedules or litter-box(es) cleaning requirements you need in a day. Finally, I have also enjoyed the unique opportunity for community and social connection that cats can bring. A cat that we previously had (a chubby orange tabby) befriended everyone in our apartment hallway, and became a particularly close friend to our neighbour's young daughter. Cats can help neighbours look out for one another, and to better understand, in part, our lives and daily commitments, so that we know we are not isolated if we ever find ourselves in an emergency!

My daughter and I traveled to Toronto from Massachusetts, and I had planned all along to hire someone when we went to the Blue Jays game. Jan and Wilson came to me for a meet and greet. My dog responded well to them right away. Because parking is such a hassle, being able to choose the option for them to both pick up and drop off my dog meant I didn’t have to move my car, and was well worth it to me. While at the game, I received a couple picture updates and texts. Was honestly anxious about the whole thing , but it couldn’t have gone better. About: In addition to investing time to learn how to care for animals better, I have a degree in creative writing & publishing, and would love to provide a comprehensive service that will also include a mini-story (with photos!) about the time spent sitting and/or walking with your furry friend. Signing up for Rover was somewhat returning to roots—when I first went to college, I was a dog-walker on the side to make a bit of income! However, I recently said goodbye to one of my own best pet friends, a mini-aussie, this past June, who still had a bit of sass even after being 15-and-a-half years old. There is a special-shaped hole and void that never goes away whenever you lose your pet friend, and I also very much understand the specialized love, patience, and medical care that senior pets will require. Examples of senior caregiving / caring for animals with special needs have included administering ever-changing medications, (probiotics to fish oil to glucosamine to trazodone etc.), changing diapers upon experiencing incontinence, monitoring weeping, non-cancerous tumours with weekly photos to check growth along with daily cleansing around a sensitive anal area, providing full-service care after surgery for actual cancerous tumour removal (as well as basic physio due to arthritis and luxating patella), and so on. With senior animals, learning patience when they slow down in general and experience mood-changes and decreased energy is paramount. They will have good and bad days, and both kinds of days might include cleaning up daily vomit when their tummies become very sensitive when they age, learning how to make homemade dog food, changing their feeding habits every few years to ensure good gut health as per vet recommendations, and sleeping on couches beside them or near to them to ensure they aren't alone and feel comfortable. I've also been around cats most of my life. The last cat that my husband and I had was from the Humane Society, a black cat who had unfortunately been quarantined twice due to ringworm outbreaks during her time there, and as such viewed her time during the pandemic, living with her family (us) in an apartment, as, rightfully, another quarantine time. We had to learn how to give her patience, care, understanding, and support, and accept that she likely wouldn't fully heal from her experiences in enclosed spaces, but it was good enough that she felt safe and able to be herself with us. My schedule is highly flexible, I live within the East York catchment area, and I am happy to provide a short story/detailed narrative update after every visit (or end-of week summary, including confirmation of any medication or behavioural changes), so you can ensure your pet is in safe hands. Finally, a fun fact about me is that I learned how to needle-felt animals, including the cat image of a friend's cat attached within my photo carousel, and loved to to try and capture their endearing qualities! Please feel free to reach out with any questions, or schedule a meet & greet, to help you feel more comfortable with your decision to work with me! My schedule is currently very flexible during the week! I am free Monday-Friday, from 10 am until 3 pm, for one drop-in visit for your pet, or walk around the neighbourhood. Please note: drop-ins will include services like litter change, food and water refreshment, brushing / bathing, lots of pets etc., and are not suitable for clients on extended overnight stays. I have a first-aid certification for pets (September 2026), and have experience with separating cats and dogs during mealtime, crating dogs at bedtime, ensuring your pup knows to sit and wait before being served a meal, administering multiple medications at required time etc., so can follow your eating schedule and daily routines you have set up for your pet. If also needed, I am happy to groom your pet (brushing and/or washing your pet, brushing teeth, cleaning out ears etc.), change litter boxes/refresh water dishes, and, of course, dole out a pre-determined amount of treats when they have indeed been a very good pet!

“After deciding at the last minute to escape winter for a week, we were worried what options would be available to watch Astrid with such short notice. We honestly couldn’t have found someone more ideally suited. Nikita only boards one dog at a time, which suits ours perfectly, as she prefers being the centre of attention. She also walks dogs, so Astrid was kept very active despite the cold. We received daily photo updates of Astrid having a blast and being settled in from before we even boarded the plane. Such a relief! ☺️ we couldn’t recommend Nikita more - we already plan to use her for two weeks again in the summer.”

“Naomi is a sweet heart. I left my dog Tyson with her for 9 whole days and that was the first time Tyson has ever been away for that long. She constantly kept me updated with pictures/videos about routine and schedules. She kept up with our day to day schedule and did her best to follow our normal daily routine.
