Yichun was amazing! She stayed at our place to look after our two cats while we were away, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. She sent regular updates and super cute photos, which really helped us relax while we were gone. Both our cats were happy and calm when we got home, they might have missed her more than us when she was gone! The house was spotless when we got back, and everything was just as we left it. You can tell she really cares. We’d 100% recommend Yichun and hope to have her back next time we go away!

About: I have dog since I was a kid so I know how to take care of them and to make sure that they feel safe with me. I find comfort when I have a dog. I work full time but off early around 3:30 pm. I always stay at home every weekend so I can be available on those times I have a big space in our home for them to play around, and I love walking so perfect for me to walk them around if needed.

About: I am an animal lover and have had a family dog my entire life. Currently I have an energetic 12 year old Portuguese Waterdog that I love to spend time with and go on daily walks with. I have plenty of experience with many types of dogs as I frequently have family friends pets stay at my home where I take care of them for many days at a time. I am very active and confident in my ability to ensure your dog will have their activity and energy needs met during drop ins or walks! I am a very accessible university student taking online classes. Given the flexibility of my courses, I am available every day of the week, specifically: Monday-Sunday: 9am-10pm I have a large fenced backyard with plenty of grass. I have a 12 year old portuguese waterdog who is very friendly and loves the company of other dogs.

About: I’ve taken care of dogs ever since I was 7 years old! I’ve helped walk, feed, bathe, play with, and care for the pets of not only my cousins and friends, but also multiple people in my community. I have experience working with puppies as well as caring for senior pets. I’ve always loved animals and truly enjoy spending as much time with them as I can. I’m currently working part time, so I have plenty of time for pet care! I am available after 5:30 pm on days that I work, which is about 3 times a week. I always have Mondays off and frequently have Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays completely free. I have experience working with pets of all temperaments and have learned well how to read their body language. I am committed to making sure that pets feel comfortable around me and understanding what they want, whether that’s attention, play, pets, or space.

Stacie went above and beyond with her cat sitting services. She always sent daily updates with both pictures and videos. For us, she came twice a day. It was an absolute treat to wake up to these messages everyday we were away. In fact, we felt so comfortable, we never even checked our pet cams. Food was done 100% like we do it (using a scale and all), litter and surrounding area was always pictured fresh, and the water was never overflowing/dry. Our cats were living their best lives with Stacie, and the only worry we ever had was that the cats would miss her more than they’d miss us! Safe to say that we will definitely be using her services again 😌

Isobel was lovely and took really great care of our dog for the day. My dog can be anxious and reactive and Isobel knew how to manage her in a way that felt comfortable and safe. My dog seemed to love her and felt so calm around her. Isobel also made sure to keep us calm and sent cute pictures 😊 This dog sitting turn out to be much less convenient for Isobel than intended, and I know she went through a lot of trouble to keep the booking and not cancel on us. This really shows how reliable she is and we appreciate it! Thank you so much! Would definitely book again.

About: I’ve taken care of dogs since I was young, having our first family dog at 8, and second family dog at 15. With both of these dogs, I have contributed to training, walking, feeding, and playing with these two beautiful goldens. With the old guy, I aided him through special senior dog care, where he had arthritis and thus many unique considerations, like helping him walk up stairs. I also have experience abroad helping with my partner’s dogs, and aiding in her own Rover work! I am currently a UBC student who is working on research in the summer. Therefore I can work in a “remote” sense, which can be adapted to dog duties as needed. I am not allowed to keep pets in my apartment, but am excited to assist in any other way I can. I have lots of experience with big energetic dogs, and do not mind them at all.

She agreed to doing a meet and greet prior to looking after our dog and was very sweet and friendly. While we were away I felt very confident with Mariia looking after Luna and she sent us the cutest pictures! She was also open to us messaging her at anytime and always responded fast. The house was left very clean. I am always really picky about who we leave our girl with and I can say in confidence that we would 100% book Mariia again! Thank you Mariia!

This was our first time using Rover. When we first met Susanne she showed a genuine interest in our nervous, senior cat. While we were away, she gave us constant updates and pictures and even checked to make sure we were going to be home on time so our cat didn’t go without dinner. We came home to a happy relaxed cat which made us know she is an experienced and caring cat sitter and we will be using Susanne again.

It was evident at our first meeting that Julia is a caring, responsible person. Our dog took to her immediately. Julia house-sat in our home for 4 days and it was spotless when we returned. She sent us pictures regularly. Our mature lab has high separation anxiety and it was evident in the first picture. But then more picture came..belly rubs, walks, cuddles, more cuddles. It was reassuring to know that while we were away our baby was being cared for by an empathetic, caring person. We would not hesitate to call upon Julia again.

We scheduled multiple walks and visits so that she would be comfy, and Ellie has clearly thrived this week while we were away. Daniella sent us several updates, photos and videos which helped us see how well Ellie was doing. We are so excited to find someone so caring and helpful so that Ellie can just be her best self!

FAQs for House Sitting - Richmond

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Richmond on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 3,258 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Richmond. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Richmond maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Richmond walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Richmond choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.

If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 91% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
