“Sarah took great care of our dog Enzo while we were gone for two nights. She sent us updates and pictures, was a great communicator and even came for a visit prior to our trip to meet Enzo and hear about his quirks. We would definitely consider booking with her again!”

“Jessie was a fabulous sitter for our usually shy and cautious cat Merlin. Within the first 12 hours, Merlin came out of hiding, was curious, and let Jessie pet him. She even brought a homemade cat toy for him, which he loves playing with. Jessie sent pictures, videos and updates. She house sat as well and took such great care of our home. Merlin will look forward to future visits, as will we. I would recommend Jessie to anyone looking for a kind and attentive caretaker of their precious pets.”

“Carissa did an awesome job housesitting and taking care of our two cats! The place was clean and cared for when we were gone, and both cats were very happy. She was responsive and provided updates while we were away. We were very happy with her care!”

About: I have volunteered at two animal shelters since 2021 where I've gained experience taking care of dogs of all sizes, cats, and rabbits. I have also been a pet-sitter for friends and family for a number of years. My family has always had pets since before I was born, and I've grown up with cats, dogs, and guinea pigs. Our current pet count is seven: six cats and one dog! I am currently looking for an internship or a part-time job, so I have plenty of time during both weekdays and weekends to care for your pets! I love going on walks and spending time at the beach, as well as relaxing at home with a good book, so I am prepared for dogs of all energy levels and cats. I am happy to take your dog on leashed walks or have unleashed playtime in a fenced area. Whether they need space or enjoy making new friends, I will ensure your dog is safe and comfortable when outside the home. I set alarm reminders for my own dog's potty breaks to keep track of her activity and ensure she doesn't have any accidents, and I will do the same for your dog! I am also very experienced with feline escape artists, so I will do my due diligence in ensuring that your doors, windows, and fences are secured.

About: I am a University of Notre Dame alumn working remotely from Burlington Vermont. I grew up with family dogs of all different personalities and energy levels, from high-energy Jack Russells to affectionate English Springer Spaniels and Boxers. Being around dogs my whole life has made me comfortable adapting to different routines, temperaments, and exercise needs. As I start thinking about adding a dog of my own, I’d love the opportunity to spend time caring for dogs in my community and give them the same attention, affection, and care I’d want for my own. I currently work fully remote from my apartment in Burlington Vermont. I spend most of my free time outdoors, going for walk by the waterfront, biking, golfing, and hiking. I look to fit in client walks throughout the work day and after work. I know how important it is to feel confident that your pet is in good hands. I’m attentive to each pet’s individual routine, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, bathroom breaks, and any specific instructions from their owner. In a client’s home, I’m respectful of both the pet’s space and the home itself, and I do my best to keep things consistent so your pet feels comfortable and secure while you’re away.
“Haley was wonderful, she took great care of our dog, guinea pigs and house. She was super communicative, and when a medical issue came up with our dog she was 100% on top of it - we felt confident our dog was in good hands the whole time.”

“We received pictures & updates on everyone and appreciate the extra care given to each one individually. Matt's always quick to respond to our request and was flexible when we asked to adjust dates to accommodate the weather. Thank you Matt!”
“Lacy is awesome! She’s able to handle our two pups (a 9yr old Boxer and a 5yr old pit mix) with ease, and they love snuggling with her all weekend long. Looking forward to booking her again.”
“Cate was absolutely amazing!!!! My husband and I were so nervous leaving our puppy at home for the first time. Cate was so kind, responsible and caring our minds were put at ease as soon as Cate arrived. She communicated throughout the weekend with pictures, videos, clarifying questions and more! She also accommodated a change in plans that required her to be on call an extra day for walks. Our dog seemed to enjoy her time with Cate and we are looking forward to being able to use Cate again! We highly recommend her”

“We had such a wonderful experience with Lianna. She sent lots of photos which our whole family loved to see. It was great knowing that our puppy was getting lots of love while we were away. She took him out for several adventures and left our home cleaner than when we left.”

“Jenna was great, arrived promptly.Communicated well. She took pictures, walked my teacups, gave them treats. I felt very comfortable leaving my teacup Yorkies w her. Would definitely ask her to pup sit again.”

“Mary did an amazing job house sitting and taking care of Barkley. I think Barkley had as much fun hanging out with Mary as she did hanging out with him. Mary was thoughtful and compassionate in caring for Barkley, she made sure to walk him and took him on a few excursions. I highly recommend Mary if you are looking for a great sitter!”
“We recently asked Lucy to house sit for us with our senior cat Sonny for the weekend. They got along great, we were always kept up to date on how things were going with messages and photos. Lucy has been great to communicate with, she kind, polite, and left us a really happy cat when got home. I would definitely recommend Lucy to all cat parents here in the Burlington area!”

“Andrew went above and beyond getting to know my difficult reactive dog who is scared of everyone. He was calm and kindly firm with Holly which she really responded well to. He left our place cleaner than we left it!”

About: Hi I’m Megan! I studied animal science at the University of Vermont so I absolutely love spending time with pets and I know a lot about animal needs! I am back at UVM for grad school, and excited to get some quality time with animals in! I interned at a vets office and I also worked with sled dogs (Siberian huskies) throughout college and did all of the care for them. I have experience raising puppies and caring for senior dogs, and love both. Specifics for what you want for your pet are always appreciated! I love to be active and go for walks and having a dog with me makes it so much more enjoyable! Whenever I have a pet they become my best friend for the time we spend together and I take their care very seriously. I have gained a lot of experience through dog sitting and will always listen to your needs and expectations for how you want your pet to be cared for. I know how much love we all have for our pets so I make sure they feel loved while you’re away, and will keep you updated with lots of pictures and videos!

“Nathan was great! He was kind, communicative, and clearly has a love for animals. Casey seemed to be comfortable with him right away and he sent us an update after the first night letting us know that things were going great which was much appreciated.”

“Oliver was very communicative and went above and beyond in terms of communicating about how our dog was doing. He also watered our plants for us while we were gone. He was respectful of our house and left it even better than he found it. One night, Oliver reached out as he was concerned that our dog was uncomfortable due to their level of whimpering. His communication allowed us to keep a close eye on her upon our return. We ended up taking her to the vet and she had a UTI. If it weren’t for Oliver reaching out about her whimpering, we maybe wouldn’t have noticed other symptoms.”

Vicky was absolutely incredible! Her communication was amazing, and she kept us updated regularly throughout the weekend. We felt completely comfortable and at ease knowing our little dog Finn was in such great hands. It was clear she truly cared about him, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We would absolutely recommend Vicky and will definitely be using her again!

Naomi was very accommodating given the short notice of our request! This was also our first time ever having a pet sitter stay overnight with our lab and two kitties. Naomi visited 3 weeks prior, which helped ease our concerns for all three pets. We were immediately relieved to see how caring Naomi was with our aging 12+ yr old lab (e.g., arthritis and other medical concerns). Naomi didn't hesitate to call on the first night to help sort through Theia's shyness and fear of a new person. Stellar job, as Naomi remained calm, working with me to coax Theia in the moment to go outside for a potty break! That's all it took - everything was smooth sailing from then on. We'll definitely be connecting with Naomi again for future overnights! Thank you, Naomi, for making our time away worry-free as we celebrated our daughter's wedding!

Sarah took great care of our dog Enzo while we were gone for two nights. She sent us updates and pictures, was a great communicator and even came for a visit prior to our trip to meet Enzo and hear about his quirks. We would definitely consider booking with her again!

Fantastic experience with Finlay! She was house sitting with my 2 high energy dogs for a week. Daily updates with photos were much appreciated. She was very communicative and did not hesitate to check in when our picky dog was not eating normally. Upon arriving home, the house was cleaned and well cared for. This is a caring and responsible sitter! Would absolutely book again in future!

Luke was extremely helpful for a last minute booking. Tina was happy and joyful when we came back and we could tell how well she had been cared for. Luke gave my senior dog her medicine and was sure to make sure he had everything he needed to make the stay what Tina needed. I’ll definitely book again with him for future travel. Thank you so much for caring for Tina as if she was your own. ♥️

Sonja was amazing with our energetic and anxious pupper. She gave frequent updates on how he was doing, reached out when Baxter had a scrape, went after a package and was eating less than normal. She worked through our changes in schedule and sitting by him to make sure he ate. It was a wonderful experience and helped us relax on vacation.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Winooski walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Winooski maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Winooski choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
