I am flexible and willing to learn new techniques if given the chance. “Kinan was amazing! I received daily updates with pictures that I so appreciated while I was out of town. He left my house cleaner than I left it! I will be rebooking Kinan again and again!”

“Emely was amazing.. I never leave my dogs and was hesitant about finding someone on rover. Our normal dog sitter fell through for our wedding weekend. Emely was amazing. She sent a ton of pictures and text updates so I was relaxed during the whole time knowing my babies were being taken care of. I have 3 cane corso’s and my girls are a lot at night liking to snuggle and Emely didn’t complain once. As you can imagine they are big dogs as well. I will be using her again and highly recommend her if you’re looking for someone. She is friendly, warm, personable and very sweet. Book her now”

“Evan took great care of our 3 year old pointer while we were away for the weekend. He was very thoughtful about letting her get used to him and feel comfortable and made sure she had regular walks. Evan sent us plenty of updates and photos and he was very respectful of our house and left it spotless. We will definitely be booking Evan again and highly recommend him.”

“Samantha is everything we want in a dog sitter. She is kind, punctual, responsible, trustworthy, a good communicator and loves our little guy! We are so happy that we found her on Rover. She sends photos of Stanley and pays attention to his mood and habits. If there was a 10 star rating we would use that🐾😊”

“We were apprehensive to leave our pets in the care of someone new, but Tom absolutely went above and beyond to lovingly care for our animals and give us peace of mind while we were on our trip! He very much understands the value of keeping pets' in their daily routine and doing things just as their owners would. He did everything we asked him to, including daily walks, small animal cage cleanings, giving of medicine, sending daily updates/pics, and giving lots of love and attention! Having a trusted pet-sitter while you're away is crucial and we will DEFINITELY be using Tom again and recommend him to others.”

About: Pets have always been a integral part of my life. Maybe not all my own but those close to me as well. I have taken care of many senior animals and also some with special needs. I have volunteered at Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah-the largest in the US. I work on call and set my own schedule, which provides alot of flexibility. Most of my work is at night and Saturdays. Prepared to drop in twice a day if needed. I'm always attuned to potential dangers in the house/yard and keep tabs on their whereabouts. I offer plenty of stimulation, attention, and walks.
“What a life saver! I always feel a little guilty leaving my furry friends behind but the pictures she sent of my crew showed them happy and relaxed. Firm believer in always trusting the dogs instincts and my dogs love her. Easy to work with, responds quickly and I will most definitely book with her again”

“Very happy repeat customer! Cleo did a great job of updating us and sending pictures and videos while we were gone. Came home to find both of our boys very happy and well loved.”
“Outstanding sitter. Numerous daily pictures, walks, activities. Pets all received lots of love. House in perfect condition upon return. We will absolutely request her to care for our pets and home again!!!”

“Allison was very flexible and accommodating as we were booking on relatively short notice and were new to the area. She was very communicative and took great care of our dog and cat the entire 2 weeks she was in our home. Would definitely recommend!”

About: I have always grown up with pets, from dogs to rodents I’ve always had some fur little friend in my life. I adore being able to make a pets life more enjoyable and bright, whether that means going out and about or being a couch potato, I want to be there. I just recently got accepted to go back to school for fall 26’ to get my masters degree in Indiana! Due to my acceptance, I decided to take the summer off from my full-time job to have a fun and memorable summer! I’m quite free until August 11th (my last day in Reno), however, I do have occasional events planned like family flying in, concerts, and seasonal activities! With these events I may need to alter some times of bookings, however, I will make sure your pet comes first! I personally love having a directions list, something that I can follow to keep both your mind and my mind at peace knowing that what is written down will make sure that you pet will be safe and still have a good time. I would also love to be able to meet you and your pet before any bookings so that both you and your pet feel comfortable with who I am!
“Jocelyn was great with my dogs! I appreciate that she visited them multiple times throughout the day and stayed overnight. Her communication was awesome as well. I would definitely recommend Jocelyn as a pet sitter!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Washoe City
Sophia was wonderful! She took great care of my dog, Topi, while I was away. She was friendly, dependable, and made me feel completely at ease knowing Topi was in such good hands. I came home to a happy, well-cared-for pup. I would definitely hire Sophia again and highly recommend her!

We had Samantha watching our house w/our dear two poodles and kitty cat for a long weekend, and she was exceptional, walking/feeding them twice a day, giving them lots of affection, sending us pics regularly, taking care of all of our mail detail, promptly returning text messages, in ways warm, generous, and wonderful. Thank you so much, Samantha, can’t wait to have you back on our next long weekend away!

I’ve only had one experience with a local boarding facility, that was not a good experience. I was extremely nervous about leaving my baby (let’s be serious, they’re our children) with a stranger again. I chose Rover since house sitting was also an option, my thinking was it would be less traumatic for my dog being at home. Sophie came for a visit a week before my trip, she instantly put me at ease. 😊 My dog was sick the day before I left, we had a little vet visit and he was given some medication. Sophie had no problems with giving him his medication, giving me updates and sending me pictures throughout my trip. She is super sweet, took great care of my baby and my home. I would highly recommend Sophie to take care of your fur babies, and well as your home.

Anna took very good care of our two pups (& our house!) - she sent tons of photos which keeps my mind at ease while traveling, she kept the house clean & was here with them all the time - she completely spoiled them, even with special puppy bakery treats! We so appreciate coming home to happy, spoiled babies and a clean home!!!!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Washoe City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Washoe City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Washoe City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
