“It is not easy to find someone that will care for you family pet, especially when they get up in years and require a bit more care. The struggle is real. Then like magic appears the perfect, most caring, attentive, loving person. I have never felt so comfortable leaving LillyJetJoy with anyone. I received daily updates and photos. Her medications were administered and her "senior" issues were attended to and considered with her walks, sleep and meals. Once you find such a great care provider, you almost dont want to share. However, I must. Kerri is highly highly recommended.”

“We had a great experience leaving our dogs, cat, and home in Annie's care! She was communicative and shared lots of photos but also gave us the freedom to enjoy our time away. The animals seemed to enjoy their time with her and the house was in great shape when we came home. Really all you can ask for! We look forward to using Annie's services again in the future.”

“Fran and Julia were amazing caretakers of our two pets, a 10 year old dog and a 2 year old cat. They watched over them for a week while we were away, providing regular updates and photos. When we came home we greeted two very happy animals that were in good spirits and clearly well loved while we were away. Highly recommend Fran and Julia!”

“Sydney took good care of our pups while we were gone! She was available to help us on short notice when another Rover canceled on us at the last minute. We will definitely consider her again on our next trip!”

“Tom did a great job with Chidi! He can be tricky and he was very patient as Chidi reacclimated. He also shoveled our stairs and cleaned off our car after the snow which was nice to come home to.”

“Liz is the best! She was available on short notice to housesit my two doggies. From the initial meet and greet I knew Liz was great. You can just tell if someone knows dogs and loves them. Throughout the trip, she was highly responsive and forward with any updates. Honestly, I’m so glad I found Liz. I will use her for all bookings going forward and I will highly recommend her to anybody. And know that I am not a bot or a pre-populated review. I am a real person who needed a dog sitter from a Memorial Day holiday weekend and Liz came through! I am grateful to her.”

“Jasmine dogsat for us while we were away for 10 days, and she was fantastic with our pup. We got plenty of cute pictures and videos and could tell our dog was having a great time and receiving excellent care. Jasmine was also very respectful of our home and left everything in great shape. We'll definitely hire Jasmine again next time we need a sitter!”

“Andrew stayed for a week+ with our rescue hound mix, Jack, and was awesome—- he sent me 2 photos a day, is very responsive to messages and left us with a clean house and happy dog! Thanks, Andrew.”

About: Hi! I’m a huge dog lover and have had dogs my whole life. My family has always had Labrador retrievers and more recently we had a husky and currently a mini sheepadoodle! My husky is a rescue so I’m used to dogs with some quirks (for example my dog is terrified of water). I’ve also had dogs that I got as puppies and raised to adulthood. My dogs have always been large, so I’m used to walking big dogs. I’ve also had dogs with various medical issues and can provide needed care with instructions. I also love cats and small animals and am happy to look after whoever needs care! During the school year I am a special education teacher. I am responsible for children on a daily basis and used to being a caregiver for kids and pets alike! During the school year I am available after school hours, and weekends are generally free. During the summer or vacation weeks I have more flexibility. Pets are a part of our families and thus should be treated as such. When I spend time with pets at home, I make sure they are fed, have water, and have some social time either playing or snuggling, and getting what they need!
“Natalie house sat this weekend for our recently rescued 7 1/2 yr old wheaten. She was both professional and compassionate. We were very pleased with her work and have already booked her for a week later in the year. It is with great confidence and pleasure that we recommend her to you”

“Alex has stayed overnight in our home caring for our dog. He follows our instructions re her routine and leaves our home just as we left it. Dog dishes are washed and dried, bed is made. He sends pix and updates. We are thrilled to have found Alex.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Wakefield
Jillian was AMAZING with our mischievous Jack Russell! She communicated often during the day (which we love) and was incredibly attentive to Porter’s schedule and needs. We have already rebooked her and will continue to do so in the future! Our minds were completely at ease on vacation knowing she was with Porter.

Kirsten & Carmelo did a great job watching over our two dogs while we were on vacation. One of our dogs is not a big fan of new people and the other dog does not like other dogs which makes walking them together very difficult, but Kirsten and Carmelo did a great job managing their competing personalities. The dogs also got a lot of love and plenty of time playing soccer in our backyard!
My dog is reactive but Daniela not only handled him but my brothers dog for 4 days as well. My dog warmed to her immediately. Daniela asked thoughtful questions about my pup's care when we first met that let me know my pup was in good hands. She took good care of my pup and provided a lot of updates and photos that helped put my mind at ease while traveling. Highly, Highly recommend!

Lauren was great! I was really worried about leaving my golden Nash with someone other than family due to his anxiety, but with Lauren, I was able to not have to worry! As soon as Nash met Lauren, I could tell he really bonded with her and her experience with other anxious dogs made it an easy choice to book her. The amount of updates and pictures was amazing and Nash looked so happy. I will definitely be booking Lauren again for any future trips!

Christine was very responsive and thoughtful in caring for our cats She sent us pictures twice a day and made sure we knew our cats were well taken of. When booking Christine responded immediately and was willing to meet our cats beforehand. We look forward to using Christine as a cat sitter again!
This was my first time having Andrea house-sit for my three dogs. She did an excellent job communicating and frequently sent me pictures of the trio. She was also very responsive whenever I messaged her. I would definitely use her services again and highly recommend her to others..

Annmarie was the best! She came to our house twice beforehand to meet the dogs and asked me a bunch of questions about their routine and habits. She sent pictures daily to us and lot of pictures of them. I didn’t have to worry about them at all. I would use her again in a heartbeat!

There’s only about 5 people in this world that I would trust and feel comfortable with to take care of my dogs, and Sarah is now one of them. She is a very kind and authentic person, so I didn’t have to worry at all while I was away. She made sure to ask all about our routine, feeding schedules, walks and treats. She was also very respectful and left my house clean and tidy. Thank you so much Sarah, we appreciate the help!

Finding someone to care for your pets while you’re away can be hard and can bring up lots of anxieties. If you’re looking for someone reliable and kind to take great care of your pets, Owen is your guy. Owen stayed with our dog Zuko and cat Willow for 7 days. He kept us well informed, sent lots of pictures and gave them lots of love. Thank you, Owen!

Anka was an excellent housesitter with our two dogs. We had to find last minute care over the week of Christmas when our other care fell through, and Anka made herself available for a meet & greet with very short notice. She sent us daily pics & updates, and we came home to a very clean house just as we left it, and with two very happy pups who are usually quite a bit more stressed when we have to travel without them. She took them to the park and on adventures, and coordinated well with my friend who walked them when Anka had longer work shifts. I will absolutely be contacting Anka again when we need care for our babies!

Colin exceeded our expectations in pet sitting our Tibetan terrier, Buzzy. He was extremely communicative to us as we travelled abroad over Christmas, was so kind to Buzzy (a newly adopted dog) and took exceptional care of him whilst simultaneously respecting our home. I cannot recommend Colin highly enough. 100/100!!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 6,383 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Wakefield. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Wakefield walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Wakefield maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Wakefield choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Wakefield. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
