“Kat was wonderful. When she had a question she was not afraid to reach out for clarification. Our cats were well fed and cared for and she brought our trash cans in without asking! I would trust her with my cats again.”

“Winter did a great job taking care of our 4 cats. I really appreciate how easy the whole process was and how well Winter communicated and kept us posted while we were away. Thanks so much!”

“Katy was great with my dogs and incredibly reliable. I was in Raleigh for 6 weeks for work, and Katy came by every day to check in on my two dogs, including my rambunctious puppy! Excellent communication throughout, knowledgeable, diligent, and trustworthy. I can't recommend her more highly!”

“Kate took care of my fur family while I was out of town. I was often worried about them, but Kate put my mind at ease by providing me with regular check ins on how everyone was doing. Kate sent photos of my cats showing that she spent time with them. Seeing them sitting on her lap brought me so much peace. I looked forward to receiving the photos of them she sent! Thanks, Kate!”

“Bella was a delight to communicate with, extremely responsive and kind. She took great care of our three pets while we were away. We will definitely book with her again!”

About: I've been pet sitting for friends, family, and neighbors for over a decade, with 3+years of experience working at a kennel. I worked as a kennel attendant from 2021-2024 before moving to Durham. I primarily cared for boarding dogs and cats (and the occasional exotic), which included feeding, water, medication, walks, bathroom breaks, playtime, cleaning, etc. I have experience giving shots to both dogs and cats (well-behaved, no aggression), and grew up with a diabetic dog in my family where I helped with insulin. I have had repeat pet sitting gigs for friends and family where I have proved myself to be reliable and responsible. If you book me, expect pictures! I love to take pet pictures and will happily send you as many as you'd like (or none if you truly want a get away experience). While I am not currently a dog or cat owner, I have some adorable ferret fur babies of my own (as pictured in my photo gallery). I work full-time 6:30am-3pm M-F. For overnight house stays I will do morning care before 6am and come back around 4pm or later in the evening depending on the pets needs! I have lower maintenance pets of my own so I will need to do drop-ins for them before/after work (I'm blessed for my short commute!) I can crate your pets if needed, leash walk them, or let them out in a fenced yard. I can accommodate for whatever system you have in place for your pet care! Currently, I am not offering pets to stay in my home unless I have built a relationship with the client and know the pets behaviors well enough.

About: I’m a lifelong dog lover and experienced dog owner who would love to care for your pup while you’re away. I’ve had dogs my entire life and currently have two of my own: an 18-month-old purebred German Shepherd and a 3-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix. They’ve given me plenty of hands-on experience with energetic, strong, playful, and sometimes stubborn dogs! I’m comfortable caring for dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages, and personalities. Whether your dog needs a long walk, some extra playtime, medication, meals, bathroom breaks, or simply a little companionship while you’re away, I’m happy to help. I understand that every dog has their own routine and personality, and I’ll do my best to keep them comfortable and stick to their normal schedule. One of the biggest advantages I offer is that I work from home, which gives me a lot of flexibility. I’m able to spend substantial time with your dog throughout the day and can accommodate overnight stays when needed. Your dog won’t be left alone for long stretches of time, and I’m happy to provide the attention and companionship they’re used to. I know how important it is to trust someone with your pets and your home, and I’ll treat both with the same care and respect I would want for my own. I’d love the opportunity to get to know your dog and give them a safe, happy, and comfortable experience while you’re away! I work from home, so pet care fits very naturally into my daily routine. I have a flexible schedule that allows me to take dogs for walks, give them plenty of playtime and attention, and keep up with their regular feeding and bathroom schedules. I’m also available for longer stays and overnight care when needed. Since I’m home throughout the day, your pup can have plenty of companionship rather than being left alone for long periods of time. I’m happy to work around each dog’s individual routine and needs. I currently do not offer boarding in my home because I have two dogs of my own. However, I’m happy to provide pet sitting in your home, where your dog can stay comfortable in their own familiar environment and routine. When caring for a pet, safety and trust are my top priorities. I take the time to understand each dog’s personality, routine, feeding schedule, exercise needs, medications, and any special instructions before their stay. I’ll treat your home with the same care and respect I would want for my own, and I’ll make sure your pet receives plenty of attention, exercise, companionship, and care while you’re away. I’m also happy to provide regular updates and photos so you can have peace of mind knowing your pup is happy, safe, and well cared for.
“Kelly was able to accommodate us last minute for a drop in visit for our pup. She was prompt and followed our instructions for our senior boy. We would highly recommend!”

“Rachel came to check on my cat on short notice and was helpful, communicative, and kind. I appreciated her responsiveness and she really helped us out! Would absolutely work with her again.”

“Great first drop-in visit with Meredith ahead of our upcoming house sit. She was attentive, asked thoughtful questions about Wallaby’s routine, and clearly cares about animals. Since Wallaby takes a little time to warm up to new people, this visit gave them a great opportunity to get to know each other. It was a really positive first step, and we’re looking forward to the upcoming stay!”

“Jerrica was amazing with my pup! She took the time to ask questions and learn about his routine to ensure he and I were both comfortable. She was always right on time for visits and showed so much care and patience with him. My dog was given lots of cuddles and love and I’m so happy I found such a trust worthy and caring sitter for him. We will absolutely be using Jerrica’s services again and again.”

About: Hello! I am 38, been in Durham since 2013, and I have lived with several friends who had dogs, so I got my start taking care of them when our human housemates were out of town. One of those longtime housemates is a certified dog trainer who had three dogs when we lived together, so I learned a lot from them about dog care and behavior! In my mid 20’s, I was referred to a friend’s parents for overnight dog sitting. I ended up loving it and have been dog sitting for them for 10+years. I’ve also taken care of their three adult children’s pets when they’re on vacation many times, proving that they trust me with their whole family 💜 Three of the dogs I have taken care of have been seniors with medications, special diets and/or needs, such as more frequent potty breaks, or help getting up and down stairs. I enjoy spending special time with those elderly family members. Since then, I have been referred to several other people for overnight stays. I have a few regular clients whose cats and dogs I stay with as well. I grew up a cat person, rescuing and raising kittens from a feral cat colony in our neighborhood. We had six of our own throughout the years who all lived to be between 18-22 years old! I have also taken care of chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs several times. I love to garden and take care of plants, as I have worked on a couple farms for several years and currently live with someone who owns a landscaping/garden business 🌱 I am currently in between jobs while pursuing a new career. Previously, I have managed catering companies for the last 10 years. While I am job hunting, I am very flexible to spend as much time as needed with your pet! When I am staying with a new dog, I make sure to use the owners’ commands, following their instructions to a ‘T’. I believe that dogs can sense when someone isn’t comfortable with them, so I try to establish a trusting relationship where the dog will respect me while also feeling calm with me, during the time when their person isn’t home. I would love to have repeat clients in order to build a longer relationship with them. It always feels so good when I show up to a client’s house and their pet is as excited to see me as I am to see them💖
“Once again, Betsy was the best! She’s a great communicator and a kind and thoughtful sitter. I have complete confidence that my pets are in great hands when they’re in Betsy’s care.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - University
Sarah is our go-to cat sitter and we’ve been so happy with her every time. She follows every instruction carefully, including the more complicated ones around separating the cats, and took extra time with my more anxious cat, which really helped him settle while we were away. Sarah is very reliable, thorough, and clearly cares about the animals in her charge!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
