“We are so thankful to have found Kate! She is amazing with our energetic puppy. He absolutely adores her and is thoroughly tuckered out after their walks, playtime and adventures. I have never used a service like Rover before, but Kate immediately put me at ease. I was able to schedule our visits very timely and feel like Kate keeps us updated with how each visit goes. She is cognizant of puppy development and helps to support our training of our pup by using the same language, routines, and providing incredibly helpful tips. She is a lifesaver and I wholeheartedly recommend her services!”

About: Call me Joe. My wife and I love animals. We’ve cared for pets our entire life—dogs, cats, birds, and even a chameleon. Originally from Japan, we're skilled at training pets through hands-on experience. We're especially patient with puppies and attentive to each pet’s unique needs. A naturally tidy and organized person, we keep your home and pets happy, safe, and cared for. We share responsibilities together. I usually handle the dog walks, while my wife not only helps me, but she also brings comfort to pets. I currently work multiple jobs, but my schedule is flexible. My wife, Hitoko, also helps with pet care, and together we make a great team. If I need to work in the evening, she is usually home after work to make sure your dog receives attentive and dependable care. We don’t currently have any pets in our home, so visiting pets receive my full attention. We live in a pet-friendly apartment complex with an on-site dog park, providing a safe and welcoming environment for walks and playtime. However, our children may occasionally visit with their pets on weekends or during the holidays, so we prefer dogs that are friendly and comfortable around other animals.

About: Hi there! I’m Audra, a lifelong animal lover with a natural ability to connect with pets of all personalities. Whether I’m caring for a shy kitty, an energetic pup, or a senior pet who needs a little extra attention, I always make sure they feel safe, understood, and loved. Why pets love me: I’m patient, gentle, and tuned in to each pet’s unique needs I give plenty of playtime, cuddles, and positive reinforcement I’m great at reading body language and helping pets feel comfortable I keep routines consistent so pets feel secure while you're away I spent a lot of time volunteering at an animal shelter, where I worked with everything from energetic puppies and playful kittens to shy, misunderstood, or special-needs pets. That experience taught me how to read body language, build trust, and adapt to each animal’s unique needs. At home, I have a senior dog who has taught me so much about patience, compassion, and the extra care our older pets deserve. I’m very comfortable with administering medications, sticking to specific routines, and giving the gentle support older dogs need to stay comfortable and happy. I am a healthcare professional with a huge love for animals and a schedule that gives me plenty of time to care for your pets. I work three days a week, which means I have four full days open for walks, drop-ins, and quality time with your furry family member. Why owners trust me: Excellent communication, with updates and adorable photos Dependable and detail-oriented (special diets, meds, routines—I've got it!) Respectful of your home and your pet’s personal comfort Caring for animals isn’t just something I do—it’s something I love. I treat every pet like family, and I’m here to make your time away easy and stress-free. I can’t wait to meet your furry best friend! 🐶🐱💛

About: I have been pet sitting since 13 years old and I have been volunteering about three times a week at Orange County Animal Services where I walk and provide enrichment for cats and dogs. I’ve taken care of a variety of animals- dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, lizards, guinea pigs, and even rats. I have experience with all ages, behavior, and energy levels, as well as taking care of multiple animals at one time. I work at Green Beagle Lodge, a daycare and boarding facility where I oversee playgroups and do stuff like cleaning ears and eyes, balming paws, brushing, etc. I work three 12 hours shifts and week, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, as well as Thursday evenings from 4pm to 7pm. I am available Thursdays before 3pm and all day Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. I am available for drop in visits, such as a couple time a day to simply feed and walk your dog or cat (or other animal). I can also do more involved pet care, such as staying overnight and hanging out with your fur baby all day!

About: I have two cats and a small dog at home that I bathe, walk, clean up after and cuddle! I currently work at a doggy daycare and boarding kennel. I am passionate about pet care and comfortability and I am committed to brightening your favorite family member's day! No matter the breed, size, age or temperament, every pet deserves the best care. I am currently working part-time and attending classes on Tuesday and Thursday, but I am available for nighttime check ins on those days. I am very patient and understanding, so please just communicate anything you need and I will work with you! I am currently staying in a dorm and am unfortunately unable to board pets. I am able to provide your pet with any kind of care in-home that you need, whether that is administering medicine, puppy care, training practice, basic necessities and, of course, play time! I am also available for house cleaning and general chores as requested.

About: I’ve been caring for pets for over 12 years and have experience with both dogs and cats of different ages, personalities, and needs as well as turtles, hamsters and birds. I’m patient, dependable, and attentive to the little details that help pets feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away. I understand how important it is to follow each pet’s established routine, from feeding and exercise to playtime, medications, and any special care instructions. I also have extensive experience caring for senior and special-needs pets, which has taught me to be especially observant of changes in behavior, appetite, mobility, and overall well-being. I treat every pet with the same level of care and attention I would want for my own. I am open to caring for other pets as well including reptiles, rodents, birds etc! ❤️ I’m currently in my last year of nursing school, so my schedule varies throughout the week, but I plan my availability carefully and only accept bookings I know I can reliably accommodate. I have flexibility for drop-in visits on many days and will communicate clearly about my availability before booking. When possible, I’m happy to coordinate visits around your pet’s usual feeding, medication, potty, and care routine. I care for every pet as if they were my own and take the responsibility of being trusted in someone’s home seriously. I carefully follow all feeding, medication, exercise, and care instructions and do my best to maintain your pet’s normal routine. During each visit, I make sure they have fresh food and water, a clean and comfortable environment, and plenty of attention based on their individual needs. I’m very observant and will communicate promptly if I notice anything unusual with your pet’s behavior or well-being. I’ll also provide photos and updates so you can feel comfortable knowing your pet is safe and well cared for while you’re away.

Natalie was GREAT!! Our cats LOVED her, probably more than they like us even! She was able to coax our very curmudgeonly elderly cat out from her hiding place and interact with her on each of the home visits! Natalie took great photos and shared pertinent and expansive notes about her home visits, too, which put us at ease as we vacationed. Would definitely book again! (Oh, and she brought in our delivered packages while we were away, without prompting, which was much appreciated!)

We had another wonderful experience with Melissa. From her daily updates, I could tell that my cat became more and more interested in her and truly trusted her. On the last day, I even saw him showing his belly and asking for affection. (My shy cat only shows his belly to people he completely trusts.) Thank you so much for treating him with such kindness and care. We truly appreciate everything you do.

Sarah is truly a gem. She stopped by throughout the weekend to care for our cat and was wonderfully reliable — always on time for feedings and making sure Dua got her medication. She also follows the golden rule of cat‑sitting: always send the humans plenty of photos and videos 😊. We’ll happily have Sarah look after Dua again anytime she’s up for it.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.

Before booking, confirm:

  • the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
  • the care instructions the sitter should follow;
  • which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
  • how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.

Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .

sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.

Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
