“Winter was awesome!! She followed all of our instructions and was great at communicating. She took wonderful care of our 2 kitties and we will be rebooking for any future trips! :)”

“Sarah was fabulous! She came in once a day to check on my 2 cats. She fed them, gave them fresh water and cleaned their litter boxes. She also brought the mail and packages inside. I am extremely pleased with Sarah and will not hesitate to schedule her again!”

About: I grew up surrounded by animals, from dogs and cats to even baby ducks. I’ve been pet sitting for years and love making animals feel at home. I work and study from home, so pets fit perfectly into my day. I plan walks, meals, and playtime around my schedule to give them full attention. I care for every pet like my own. I keep their environment calm, clean, and safe, follow their schedule, and make sure they always feel loved abd secure.
“Sarah was so helpful to provide care for my dog at the last minute, she sent great pictures of him looking super happy getting his attention while I was gone, I would definitely seek her out again!”

About: Hey there! I have a friendly pit mix. I’m super active and love spending time with dogs and going hiking. I am in school to become a dog trainer. I have a few tricks up my sleeve. If you need to brush up on some training, I will do so and follow your instructions. I also love working with reactive/challenging dogs. Seeing the moment they understand what they are supposed to do is amazing and so rewarding. I love all types of animals and look forward to spending time with your pet(s) I am available full time but need to come and go to care for my own dog. I typically wake up pretty early and start my mornings with a long walk. I will follow all instructions and routines. If your dog likes to go on hikes or trips to the park, I’m all for it :) as for cats, lots of play if they are active kitties or just chill on the couch and hang out :)

“Hannah was wonderful and really made me feel like my dog was getting great care and attention while I was away. She sent lots of pictures and updates which I appreciated so much! I highly recommend her!”

“McGhee was great! I booked last minute and she was very accommodating. Got cute pictures and updates everyday for my kitty girl, who looked very happy :) Will definitely be booking with McGhee again”

About: I have taken care of many dogs and cats, from high school to present, when friends and relatives have relied on me to walk dogs and change litter boxes. Now, I love to play with my friends' dogs and go for walks around the neighborhood! I am currently on research time in residency which means more flexibility, working partially from home, and more time to take care of your pets! My schedule varies week to week, and include time working from homes and gaps when I can take pets on walks. I have a fenced in back yard and fairly spacious one bedroom in a walkable neighborhood, centrally located, and perfect for a walk around the block, leisurely long stroll, or multiple night stay! For walks, I also like to go to Eno state park or other nearby trails to tire your pup (and myself) out. For pet sitting in your house, I am organized, respectful, and clean. Your pet will get lots of play time and belly rubs!
About: I have a wide variety of animal care experience: -Taking care of my own dog for 10 years -Fostering rescue dogs for 1 year -Performing drop in visits and walking services for neighbors for 8 years (for cats and dogs) -Living in Alaska and caring for a team of 30+ sled dogs I work a part-time online job with flexible hours. I can arrange my schedule around your pets’ needs! I am an near daily swimmer, cyclist, and hiker, so I’m always happy to include your animal into my active lifestyle, should you and they be interested. I have a fenced backyard that has plenty of mowed grass for dogs to play fetch, run around, or lay in the sun or shade. When visiting other homes, I will be very respectful of your space. As such I would encourage that we organize a meet and greet beforehand so that we both feel comfortable with the arrangement!

Julie was absolutely wonderful with my cat! 🐱❤️ She was caring, responsible, and very attentive, and I felt completely comfortable knowing my cat was in such good hands. She kept me updated and treated my cat with so much love and patience. Alexandra is always my first choice to watch my dog. She’s caring, reliable, and a great communicator. With all the troubles that can happen with flights, last-minute changes are sometimes unavoidable, and she handled them with total understanding and flexibility. I couldn’t be happier with her care. Thank you so much, Alexandra!

Emeline was absolutely amazing with my two dogs. From the moment I hired her, I felt complete peace knowing they were in loving, attentive, and capable hands. She treated them with genuine care, patience, and warmth, like they were her own. I could tell my dogs were happy, calm, and well cared for when I returned, which speaks volumes about the trust and bond she created with them. Her communication was thoughtful, her presence reassuring, and her energy exactly what my dogs needed. I am beyond happy with Emeline and truly grateful for the care she provided. I would book her again without hesitation and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone exceptional to care for their pets.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
