Diana, you are fantastic! We have never left our little sausage Jumbo before and we’re really worried about going away. But from the time me and Jumbo met you I realised you were a kind and lovely lady who loves animals. Jumbo loved you too. Your regular updates and videos really stopped us from worrying and helped us enjoy our 40th wedding anniversary away. We have found someone special to look after Jumbo in the future!! Thank you Diana

Sarah and Joe were the most amazing pup sitters for our sweet Izzy. From the moment I met them I knew Izzy would be in brilliant hands - she was so comfortable in their home from the start. We had loads of updates and I knew that Izzy was feeling very at home. I would not hesitate to recommend Sarah and Joe to look after your precious pup. Thank you!

We couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! From the moment we met her, it was obvious how much she genuinely loves and understands dogs. She took such amazing care of our dog, kept us updated with photos and messages, and gave us complete peace of mind while we were away. Our dog came home happy, relaxed, and clearly very well looked after. It’s such a relief to know we have someone so trustworthy, caring, and reliable to leave our dog with. I honestly can’t recommend her highly enough. Thank you so much for everything - we’ll definitely be booking again!

About: Hi there! We’re Leia and Dan, a young couple who loves animals. We’re currently in a flat, so we’re looking to share our space with your furry friends to get a flavour of what it’d be like for us in the future. We live in a comfortable space with a balcony for fresh air throughout the day. Both working hybrid work patterns so one of us will be at home throughout the day to have cuddles, belly rubs and walks. Having grown up with cats, and regularly looked after my parents cats, we know they have their boundaries, but love to have attention (on their terms) and have that perfect chin scratch. When boarding cats, we wouldn’t have the balcony open to ensure they are kept safe. We naturally love to be outside, whether that’s walking or camping. So, if you decide to board your pooch, trust they will be taken on many walks (it keeps us healthy!) to explore local routes. Whether it’s a walk, a day, a weekend, a week, or more, we’re happy to discuss looking after your pet. Both of us work hybrid work patterns so one of us will be at home throughout the day to have cuddles, belly rubs and walks throughout the week. Our weekends change depending on the weather and social plans. Sometimes we stay at home watching movies and playing board games, and other times we like to venture out and explore a new walking routes and stop mid way for a lunch break. So we can accommodate our schedule depending on your pet. We have a balcony for fresh air which we will keep open if we are looking after dogs (and a watchful eye at all times). For cats, we wouldn’t have these open but instead keep our windows ajar so the fresh air can still flow in but they are kept safe. If looking after pets in your home, we take security very seriously. Ensuring that any doors are locked and keys kept safe until you return.

About: Hi everyone, I am Hannah and I live with my boyfriend Ben, we love all animals and we had a rescue dog, Kali in my picture who sadly passed away in December and we really miss her company, especially when I work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays and on the weekends when we are indoors. We would love to get another dog but are not ready to yet so would love to start dog walking and dog sitting to have the company and friendship of a dog. Kali was a difficult dog and we struggled to find dog sitters for her so we are very patient an understand how rescue dogs can be. I work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays and would love to look after a dog when I am at home. I would be able to take them for an hour walk at lunch time and they would get lots of cuddles treats and belly rubs! We are also at home a lot on weekends so if we have no plans we are more than happy to dog sit and even have the dog stay at ours overnight I have a fenced garden. I will be here all day, I may have to pop out for a maximum of one hour but I will make sure that I take the dog for a walk beforehand

We highly recommend Susan for any cat-sitting needs - she is trustworthy, reliable, and clearly very passionate about animals. Five stars isn't enough – I'd give Susan ten stars if I could!❤️👏🏻

Alice was amazing with Ziggy. Her little boy had bought him a ball to play with, and he had become so attached to a soft toy belonging to one of her boys that she gave it to him to take home. She immediately felt like a friend and that is really important, especially if you’re leaving your dog with someone you don’t know. Lovely atmosphere, lovely family, photos of Ziggy whilst I was away. If you need someone to look after your dog, you won’t do better than Alice and her family.

About: I’ve been around dogs my whole life and currently have a friendly 6 year old Cockapoo who is a much loved member of our family. Growing up, I cared for my Irish Setter, Yorkshire Terrier, Dalmatian and German Shepherds, giving me experience with a range of breeds, sizes and personalities. I understand that every dog is different and I always take the time to make them feel safe, comfortable and loved. I offer a home for dogs who don’t like being left alone. My own Cockapoo has severe separation anxiety, so I completely understand how stressful it can be to find someone who truly understands their needs. Because of this, we made the decision years ago that he is never left alone. Not even for a quick trip to the shops or to pop out for a few minutes. Your dog will be treated like one of the family, with free access to our home, plenty of love and attention, and constant companionship. If your dog struggles with separation anxiety, you can relax knowing they will never be left on their own while in my care. I work full-time from home, so your dog will have company throughout the day and won’t be left alone. My flexible schedule allows plenty of time for toilet breaks, walks, playtime, enrichment and cuddles. Your dog will become part of our daily routine and receive lots of love and attention while you’re away. Your dog’s safety, comfort and happiness are my top priorities. I have a fully fenced, secure garden for safe outdoor time, and my home is a dog-friendly environment where pets are treated like family. I have a friendly 6 year old Cockapoo who enjoys the company of other dogs. Because he has separation anxiety, I understand how important routine, patience and reassurance are, so dogs in my care are never left alone. I’ll follow your dog’s usual routine as closely as possible and keep you updated with regular photos and messages for complete peace of mind.

We asked Hannah if our dog Honey could not just stay over for a few hours this time but a weekend and she had the best time. We were nervous as our first overnight stay but were reassured just like before, as we know Honey adores Hannah and is well looked after and meets some new puppy pals. Hannah keeps us informed regularly and sends photos of our dogs’s days and makes things easier for us. Cannot recommend Hannah enough. Thank you Hannah!

Devianna took great care of Nina and with a lot of love whilst we were on holiday, it was the first time Nina was separated from us and during the severe heatwave. Nina was looked after accordingly with frozen shirts and towels and taken for walks only when it was cool enough. Devianna met with Nina prior to looking after her, communication has been good and I had updates daily with pictures as well. Nina returned happy and I will definitely be asking Devianna to look after her again. Thank you for taking such good care of Nina.

FAQs for Boarding - Chelmsford

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Dog Boarding in Chelmsford on Rover is £34.5 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Dog Boarding easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Dog Boarding. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 7,872 sitters on Rover offering Dog Boarding across Chelmsford. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in East of England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
