“Amberly was super accommodating and was a lifesaver when our sitter canceled last minute, and our pup had so much fun playing that she slept like a rock when we brought her home! Also she took amazing photos of our pup as an added plus :)”

“Kimberly was a great sitter for our Charlie! She sent numerous videos, photos and updates throughout the stay! She helped our nervous boy feel right at home. We would absolutely recommend her!”

“Penny looked after Ginger as a trial night before we go on a longer trip this summer. I could tell Ginger had a blast and Penny is very caring with the dogs. I’m not concerned with leaving my pup with Penny when I have to be gone this summer. Thank you Penny and Ginger and I will see you again soon!”

“My dog made himself right at home with Eliza! They got on really well and I had loads of pictures during his stay. He was very happy and healthy when I saw him again, and he enjoyed himself tremendously. I’m very happy to recommend Eliza as someone who is very enthusiastic about dogs, has a great place, takes really good care of them (let my dog out several times a day!). She was great and I hope we can visit her again sometime! (Tucker thinks so too...)”
“Jason was awesome with my dog! He was communicative, honest and sent lots of pictures which I appreciated. He was also flexible since he kindly agreed to extend the stay when a family situation came up. We also recommended him to my mother in law and he is also taking care of their dog. We will definitely use Jason's services again in the future! Thank you, Jason!”

“First time using Rover and very happy with the experience! I would definitely recommend and rebook with April without a doubt! Excellent communication and updates - loved receiving pictures of our pup!! Very flexible as well!”

“Roberto and his family did a wonderful job sitting for our dog Hopper while we were on vacation for two weeks. He sent us pictures and updates every day or two. They really made Hopper part of the family (even though Hopper kept stealing all of their dog’s toys and attention). We were very happy to be able to leave Hopper in a home where he was so well cared for.”

“Just fantastic! Kasia and her mom took such great care of our sweet pooch. She was quick to communicate, accommodating of last minute plan changes, and, above all, attentive and kind to our dog. An overprotective dog mom, I will definitely ask Kasia again when we need a vacation home for our big guy in the future.”

“Their house was very clean and so was their super large back yard. Both their dogs are super friendly and we felt super safe to leave our dog in their house. The best part is they keep sending us pics of him. We would leave him with Mark and Julie again in the future :)”

“Lynn and her family are truly animal people. They were so good with my Great Dane, Frank. They helped him get over his initial nervousness and played with him every day. I would 100% rebook with them! Thanks again!”

“Kaylee is the absolute best!! She cares for our puppy weekly but had him for a very long weekend and provided some many great updates and even when our guy was anxious - she was so attentive!!! The best of the best.”

“Lori watched my two dogs one of which is 14 years old and extremely anxious. Lori kept me updated on how she was doing. I felt very secure with her in Lori‘s care. Both of my dogs take medicine or supplements and Lori was excellent and making sure that everything was taken at the right time. I will definitely use Lori again.”

“Colleen is AMAZING with my puppy. She is so kind, loving, and attentive. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful person take great care of her while we were out of town. Colleen touches base everyday with a picture or two showing their daily adventures. I never worried about my puppy while we were away. Colleen is so experienced with dogs that she has many repeated customers, and we are one of them! I highly recommend her!”

“Kristina is a wonderful sitter! Very quick to respond and very communicative. Cassie was happy, made new friends, and we got photos and little updates daily. Will definitely be a returning client! ❤️ Thank you!”

“Susan, David and their son,Jack, were conscientious caregivers for our dog. They asked questions to make sure they understood her needs and preferences. We received updates with pictures of her walks and outside play. We would highly recommend their service.”

“This was my first-time using Rover for dog boarding and I loved it! I was always afraid to use apps for services like this but Kim put my mind at ease. We scheduled a meet & greet and Peanut and Kim's dog's got along great. I love having someone so local (same town) that I trust to watch my dog. Kim did a fantastic job keeping me updated with Peanut's status while I was away around the holidays. I will definitely use Kim again and would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs care for their dog.”

“Sarah was great. She took very good care of my dog and cat and kept me updated with photos and recaps of their activities. She obviously loves animals and I felt my boys were very safe in her care--I recommend her highly.”

“Sitter was absolutely fantastic. Very responsive whenever I had a question. Is very knowledgeable about her craft in watching the dogs. Sent me constant updates to let me know when she fed, walked or gave meds to my dog. She has an extreme attention to detail. I mentioned the reason for the sitting and then she messaged us wishing the person a happy birthday and it was very heartfelt. All in all outstanding experience and will use again.”

“I just picked up my dog from a 12-day stay with Bob. This was our second time using him & both times everything seemed to go really well. Bingo had a great time playing with other dogs; I received numerous videos so I could see how much fun he was having, how many chin rubs he got, & even where he liked to snooze. Bob seems to have a way with dogs.”

We had a great experience with Allis. She was very genuine from the moment we had our meet and greet. She understood our concerns with our doodle, who can be tempermental at times. Communicated with us everyday and our dog connected with her and her family. We highly recommend and would definitely board with her in the future.

Melissa was amazing! She came to the rescue when I found a lost teenage kitten right before a long-planned trip. She sent pics and updates every day. Her cat room has a giant cat tree right by the window, as well as an arm chair to curl up on and a box house to hide in. Kitten is now back with her family, but if I ever need a sitter again, I am definitely reaching back out to Melissa!

Thank you so much Alexis! This is the second time we’ve used Alexis and my dogs are so happy to see her and her dogs! She communicates great and sends me daily pictures and I know my dogs are happy and cared for. Makes leaving them so much easier knowing they’re in good hands!

Came through for my very last minute request and had no issues whatsoever! My first ever experience ever using a pet sitter and all my worries quickly went away especially after seeing my pup have fun. Her and her close ones are people you can trust and my boy is still healing great! Will definitely be one of my first choices if I ever need to use similar services.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in IL ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
