“My cat loves Steffen, and he brought over toys for him to try and keep which was very thoughtful. The apartment was very clean when I got back. He also went above and beyond with helping me with a perishable package that came while I was gone.”

“Alexandra was wonderful with our two cats! We loved all the photos taken and really appreciated the attention she gave them. Alexandra is very communicative and her flexibility was very helpful with our weekend away! We definitely will be using Alexandra’s services again!”

“Heather did a great job taking care of my elderly cat while I was out of town and my family needed help with pilling her! We'll definitely be working with her again the next time we need a sitter! Thanks so much for your help!”

“Lavinia was so great! She took such good care of my dog and cat while I was out of town for a week. Was super communicative and sent lots of updates! Also went above and beyond and took care of a plant my cat knocked over as well as dealt with my apartment when the water was out. So great and will definitely rebook!”

“Rico was an amazing sitter for our cat! We were wary to use Rover again after a bad first experience but he was extremely kind, reassuring, and communicated with me while we were gone about my cat’s automatic feeder that ended up breaking. We will definitely be using him again in the future!”

“HUGE thank you to MacKenzie for doing this one-off semi last-minute visit with my pups and her continued patience with my one dog who is a little more nervous and difficult. She is a blessing and I will always be grateful for her love and care she gives my pups while I am away.”

“Baela did a great job taking care of my two cats! One of them is a little bit difficult and needed medication, and she took care of it no problem. My cats were happy when I got home, and everything was in order. Baela communicated very well before and during my trip. I would definitely recommend Baela and would use her again next time I go out of town.”

About: Hi there! My name has since changed to *Romeo* as I am queer :) Ive had experience with all sorts of animals since I was a young! My heart however has always lied with dogs. Ive lived with, trained, and taken care of dogs from age 15. Professionally, I am currently a counselor at Camp Bow Wow! I’ve been working there for over a year now, learning and applying a wide range of skills. In this role I’ve learned some key skills on how to ensure companions are safe and happy: 1. Body language: I observe everything from your dog’s head to tail to minimize reactivity due to human- animal misunderstandings 2. Health indicators: although I’m not a vet, I was trained to recognize irregular symptoms a dog may be displaying such as stool texture and consistency, body temperature, excessive panting and drooling, gum color, etc. Anything your dog may be struggling with from itchy skin to something greater, I’ll notify you right away! 3. Communication: parents love hearing about their babies and seeing them happy and comfortable! By regular communication, this allows me to get clear instructions to follow, assess any changes needed in care or routine, and stay up to date in case of any rapid changes or emergencies. In addition, what sets me apart is my artistic attention to detail, which allows me to adapt to your dogs needs in a creative way. I like to challenge myself by finding ways to stimulate and enrich your dog while you are away! I’m very relaxed, quiet, and easygoing, but also spontaneous and go-with-the-flow should your dog get the zoomies! I’ll get mine out with him :) Lastly, I respect peoples spaces/ privacy and always clean up behind myself after using something in your space. I'd love to give your dog my unconditional love and undivided attention. Your baby is not just a pet, they are our best friends who depend on us. So Relax while you’re away, and leave the fun stuff to me! Looking for regular/ recurring clients :) I currently work part time on weekdays, twice a day for up to 7 hours. This is subject to change within the next few weeks to ensure I have time to House sit efficiently. Please reach out to me with questions about this, and I’d be happy to negotiate! I love being outside, especially in the company of some furry friends. I understand that your dog may either be a nature pet or a couch potato, and I'm able to adapt to your pets needs depending on their personality. I'm clean, quiet, and active when need be. Cleanliness is a priority for me. Cleaning up waste properly and right away is a must, including picking up poop during walks.
“I was able to enjoy my international trip without worry because Caroline did such a good job with my cat. She went the extra mile to come meet him in person to make sure he would be comfy with her before I left, and she also did a lot to accommodate my last minute schedule changes, which I couldn’t be more thankful for. If you’re looking for an experienced sitter that truly loves animals and also being as helpful and kind as she can, I can’t recommend Caroline enough!”

About: I grew up with a black lab for the first 15 years of my life so I grew up taking care of of a dog in all stages of life from training a young active dog to elderly dog care. I am currently living with my girlfriend’s cat. I will pet every single dog (with permission of course) I see on the street. My explicit purpose when I get the chance to walk/play with a dog I want them to be exhausted by the end and ready for a good nap I’m free Monday thru Friday all day except for Tuesday, Thursday 5pm and onwards. Weekends will vary depending on the week. I can work nights if that is needed as well We have a cat and all accommodations for a cat (litter box, tree, toys) to host another cat. We could host a dog that doesn’t need to be outside nonstop as we have no yard. When I dog sit I take regular walks every few hours, and one of them will usually be a long run to make sure the dog gets exercise and is tired (distance is dog dependent). If they can be off leash I’ll play in a park with them too. The rest of the time I’ll be petting the dog basically nonstop (while reading a book, while on my phone, while watching tv etc.) I’ll follow whatever directions for feeding you have for your pet. And I will ensure that they get nonstop love
About: ❤️dogs! Had them since child, first one was Shepard mix, couple of pitbull terriers, my new buddy is a 2 yr old doberman named todoroki, we go on long walks all the time I currently work on the door dash app so my schedule is free during the day from about 7 am to about 4pm I usually deliver at night Lots of walks, I can take your puppy on the walk he desperately needs while your working never worry if your baby had an accident again

About: Love to give dogs lots of attention and affection. Coupled with the ability to be stern if needed, I am able to take care of many types of dogs. I live an active life and will have no problem walking your dog as much as needed. I spent many years training and caring for our family dog. I have lived with roommates with dogs and had no issues caring for them even when the roommate was not away. While living with a roommate, they had their own rover account and I would help take care of any dog that would come over. I have pretty open availability and willing to travel to most places within 10-15 miles of downtown baltimore. Please reach out to me with any questions or requests and I will try to accommodate.
“Priya was amazing and attentive to detail and to my pups! She gave them lots of love and affection and was extremely playful w them! They adored her! Will def be booking her again! 10/10”

About: I have been a dog lover for as long as I can remember! I always loved watching animal planet and reading books about dog breeds. I have had three adopted shelter dogs over the years. Our first, a 90 lb yellow lab/dalmation mix named Woody. Then we found and adopted Buzz, a 50 lb pitbull/german shepherd mix, from the side of the road. Our current family dog is Banjo, a 110 lb foxhound/mastiff/german shepherd mix. I love dogs of all shapes and sizes but mixed breeds and shelter pups have a special place in my heart ❤️ My experience mostly comes from taking care of my own pets, although I have helped care for neighbors and friends pets as well. I have also volunteered a couple months in a shelter, walking and playing with the dogs. I can fully handle walking dogs of all sizes, feeding and playing with them. I also have experience with dogs that are anxious around people and other animals. I have never owned a cat but I have lived with roommates and a host family that owned cats. I have also done cat sitting for neighbors. I know the basics and am a quick learner for whatever you need! I am very respectful of others homes, rules and routines. Please provide me with as much detail as possible for what you need and I will do my best to help! I respond quickly, and communicative and reliable. I would love the chance to meet you and take care of your best friend 🐶🐱 I am a teacher and am off during July. During the school year I can work around the school day and also am available on weekends. I am only available to care for your animal at your home as animals are not allowed in my apartment. I do well with specific directions on walking, feeding and playing with your pet. I would love to hang out and play with them and do any other additional things you need.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Rochester
I first booked with Lavinia last year and she was AMAZING. So I had booked her again this year for a week to come drop by and check on my 2 cats twice a day while I was on vacation. We met up a couple days before I was to leave, so she could meet my new cat and get the keys to my place. Sadly, the day before I was supposed to leave, I unfortunately had to cancel the entire booking as one of my cats became very sick and I needed to stay behind to take care of him. I felt awful for cancelling so last minute, but Lavinia was very kind and understanding. She even went out of her way to bring my keys by for me even though I wasn’t home - and left the cutest and coolest watercolor painting of my little guy for me. And followed up with me a week or so later to see how he was doing. She is definitely my go-to when I am out of town and need care for my babies, and I’m sad when she’s booked!

Leslie took amazing care of two of my very stressed out cats right after I’d moved into a new apartment! I came back from retrieving my third cat to find two happy, well-cared-for kitties who are starting to adjust to their new surroundings. :) Thank you so much!!

Caroline is the best! She gives so much love and care to our kitties while we’re away, giving us a much needed sigh of relief from the anxiety of leaving them. She’s also incredibly attentive, making sure their space stays tidy for them. We’ve been connected with Caroline for years and are so lucky to have her!

She did a great job giving all our cats attention, even the difficult ones. Made sure to keep a watchful eye during meal times so food wasn’t stolen by other cats. Did a great job of cleaning litter boxes and food dishes daily. Went above and beyond and watered our flowers while we were gone. Will definitely plan to use again the next time we go out of town. Did a great job of capturing this pictures of all cats at each visit.

HUGE thank you to MacKenzie for doing this one-off semi last-minute visit with my pups and her continued patience with my one dog who is a little more nervous and difficult. She is a blessing and I will always be grateful for her love and care she gives my pups while I am away.

Holly is wonderful! We were lucky she was available for a couple last-minute drop-in appointments. She texted back quickly. Our cat, who hates to be held, needs to have her paws dipped into a medication solution for as close to 5 mins as possible everyday. Not only was Holly unfazed by this task, but she was more successful with it than we often are! She is clearly familiar with animal behavior and is willing and able to adapt to pet’s personality to keep them healthy and happy. She adjusted her approach as she went based on her observations, which let me know she was really paying attention during visits. Holly is also communicative and easy to talk to. 10/10 would recommend

My first time using a pet sitter to visit my cat daily and Paige made the whole experience super easy and convenient! She followed all instructions, provided detailed daily updates and sent lots of photos of my cat. I would definitely work with her again as the experience was so much easier than packing everything for my cat to board and he was much happier at home. Thanks Paige!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Rochester. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 92% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
