Michael was great. I have 2 dogs, an elderly dog who needs multiple medications and sometimes has accidents, and a 6 month old puppy. Michael continued our training with our puppy, he also helped with the crazy schedule the 2 dogs and kept our house in great order while we were gone for 10 days. I would highly recommend Michael to house and dog sit.

Karina is truly the best! She provided immaculate care for our senior dog. I have no doubt that Lilly felt safe and loved with Karina while we traveled. Karina provides multiple updates and pictures throughout her stay. She is also extremely responsive to any messages or questions. We will absolutely be booking with Karina again to watch our senior gal!

Sarah took care of our cat for four days at our house while we were away. He has to be given medication at certain times during the day and also loves human attention. Sarah was caring and responsible, spent time hanging out with him, and made sure he got his meals and medicine at the right times. She also checked in with us, asked good questions, and responded quickly when we checked in with her. We hope to hire Sarah again, and highly recommend her for petsitting and housesitting.

Kevin was wonderful. We could not have been more confident in his ability to care for our pup during our trip. He asked all the right questions and truly paid attention to detail. During the stay, he sent plenty of updates and pictures which made us so happy to see! He was prompt, professional, and friendly! Our normally nervous pup warmed up to him almost immediately which just shows how lovely he is. Ollie loved him! He drew us a custom picture of Ollie and it truly is the coolest thing ever. We’ll be hanging it up! If you’re looking for a sitter who is attentive and will love on your animals the way you would, Kevin is your guy! Thank you Kevin for taking great care of Ollie!

I also came home to a house that looked and smelled wonderful. I highly recommend Lisa if you want an all around excellent experience. 1000/10 Thank you Lisa!

Scott watched our 12 year old dog Molly while we were away for a long weekend. Molly has had recent surgery and has a bad leg. It was wonderful to know that she was so well cared for while we were gone. We came back home to a happy girl who was moving well. It was also comforting to know our house was safe while we were gone. Scott updated us that she was eating well and everything was going smoothly. Would definitely recommend and would use again!

Jason stayed over night in our home the last 3 days (2 nights) to take care of our 2 small dogs. He clearly knows and loves dogs, and made us feel so comfortable that they were in his hands. Bright, professional, caring, attentive, responsive, fun… Jason kept in touch with us via text and photo the whole time, asked the right questions, took the right notes, and paid close attention to the details of their usual routines. Pups loved him. Already feels like part of the family. Our neighbors enjoyed him too! Will absolutely ask him back the next time we travel.

Ryan was an amazing asset while we were away. He is communicative, kind, and truly goes the extra mile—leaving a wonderful impression on both us and our pets (even our cranky rooster!). He asked thoughtful questions and took great care in looking out for our entire household. He’s hands down the best pet sitter we’ve had, and we will absolutely be using him again! Our home was better than how we left it.

About: I am currently a college student who loves animals. I have a dog and three cats at home, and I have volunteered at animal shelters in the past, so I’m very experienced with pets. While I am newer to house sitting, I am definitely not new to loving and caring for our furry friends! I work part time so I am available multiple times every day. I can stop by homes in the morning before work, and then after work in the afternoon and evening. I walk my dog and he loves our fenced in yard. I also am accustomed to feeding and cleaning litter boxes. And of course, care, love and attention are important every day!

Outstanding care. What more can you ask for when you leave your home and pets in someone else's care? That's what Donna delivered in spades. Donna was responsive, proactive, caring and considerate. She was in instant contact and everything was breezily coordinated prior to our trip. Once we left, Donna kept in constant communication and delivered on everything she said she would do. When I came home my pets were healthy and happy but I was stunned to discover how neatly everything had been left. 10/10, will ask for again, thank you, thank you, thank you, Donna.

I couldn’t have asked for a better pet and house sitter. When I first met Mer, she was clearly experienced and comfortable with Walter (he can come on a little strong since he loves visitors) but she wasn’t intimidated at all. Mer took the time to understand Walters routines and quirks (he has many) which immediately made me feel comfortable about trusting her with my big 90 pound baby. While I was away, we kept in touch so I knew Walter was well cared for. The photos looked like they were having a great time! Mer treated my home and my dog with kindness and respect, as if they were her own. I would definitely recommend Mer and will be booking her again next trip.

Jennifer took such great care of Ref while we traveled for spring break. She took him on multiple walks a day, spent quality time playing with him, and even went above and beyond by helping with laundry. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing he was not only well cared for, but truly loved while we were away. We came home to a happy pup and a spotless home, couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommend Jennifer!

Lamar was an amazing pet expert and friend to Mango. He suggested a pre meet and greet which was so thoughtful and helpful. The meet and greet allowed Mango to get to know him in advance with no threat of us leaving. She literally took to him from the minute he arrived and it really never changed. His enthusiasm and expertise are apparent immediately as are his strong desire to understand the pet and the owners objectives. We are looking forward to many more playdates with Lamar and Mango!

FAQs for House Sitting - Northbrook

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Northbrook on Rover is $48.15 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of June 2026, there are 7,972 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Northbrook. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Northbrook walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Northbrook maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Northbrook choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Northbrook. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
