Beth was wonderful. She took the time to meet our crew in advance, she stayed in touch while we were gone and was flexible when we unexpectedly had our trip delayed a day. We plan to reach out again for any future pet sitting needs!

Kevin was wonderful. We could not have been more confident in his ability to care for our pup during our trip. He asked all the right questions and truly paid attention to detail. During the stay, he sent plenty of updates and pictures which made us so happy to see! He was prompt, professional, and friendly! Our normally nervous pup warmed up to him almost immediately which just shows how lovely he is. Ollie loved him! He drew us a custom picture of Ollie and it truly is the coolest thing ever. We’ll be hanging it up! If you’re looking for a sitter who is attentive and will love on your animals the way you would, Kevin is your guy! Thank you Kevin for taking great care of Ollie!

Gabi’s services were 100% awesome. We have a quirky dog and she came over once a week for a few months before we left to get our dog comfortable with her. She kept us informed and went above and beyond to make us feel secure when leaving our home and pets in her care. She also kept our house as clean as we left it! Very diligent and respectful.

Scott watched our 12 year old dog Molly while we were away for a long weekend. Molly has had recent surgery and has a bad leg. It was wonderful to know that she was so well cared for while we were gone. We came back home to a happy girl who was moving well. It was also comforting to know our house was safe while we were gone. Scott updated us that she was eating well and everything was going smoothly. Would definitely recommend and would use again!

Destiny is a fantastic person and dog sitter! Our standard poodle can be a picky guy when it comes to new people, he immediately liked Destiny! She updated us with photos, cooked his particular food, took him to a pet store his favorite activity and lots of walks. Ice has a new best friend, definitely a 10/10!

Karina stayed at our house for two weeks, watching our dogs and cats while we were away on vacation. During our entire time away she was very communicative and shared plenty of photos! She made sure we knew our animals were well taken care of the entire time sharing details of walks and feedings. When we came back all the animals were happy and the house was spotless and in an even better condition than when we had left it. If you are looking for somebody to take care of your animals, Karina is an excellent choice.

Kaleigh went above and beyond to help my sick kitty girl. My cat normally has medications, but at the last minute Kaleigh had to give an antibiotic twice a day plus the other medications injected orally. She did it with ease and flexibility. I could tell my cat really liked her since she was so happy in the photos she sent me. She even came by after she was done to make sure my cat wasn’t suffering without the AC on. She’s wonderful, caring and so reasonable. I highly recommend her.

My cats loved spending time with her and I would highly suggest utilizing Jiyai’s care for your furbabies. Jiyai was always on time, sent me pictures, and updated me twice a day while I was on my trip. Thank you Jiyai for the love and support you extended.

About: Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted dogs to be a big part of my life. I begged my parents for one, but instead they had me start dog sitting to prove I was responsible enough. After many dog sleepovers, we finally welcomed Kirby into our family for my 12th birthday! Caring for Kirby taught me that every dog has their own personality and routine, and I enjoy getting to know what makes each one feel comfortable and loved. When I'm caring for your pet, I'll treat them like they're my own. I'll make sure they get the exercise, attention, and care they need, and I'll keep you updated so you can have peace of mind while you're away. I'm working part time 2-3 nights per week, and have some weekend obligations. Other than that, pet care fits naturally into my weekly routine, and I am committed to provide reliable care! I'll be paying close attention of surroundings to keep your dog safe! To assure peace of mind, I'll make it an intention to send updates after each adventure! And of course I will respect any route preferences :) When caring for pets in your home, I always follow your pet's normal routine as closely as possible to help them feel comfortable and secure. I'll make sure they always have fresh water, exercise, and plenty of attention--my goal is to follow all care instructions as closely as possible. I also treat every client's home with the same respect I would my own. My goal is to provide a safe, stress-free experience for both you and your pet.

This was Grace's first time watching Maisy at my apartment while I had an out-of-town trip for a night. Maisy took to Grace immediately at the meet-and-greet and was excited to see her again when it came time for my night away. Grace was understanding about my one-key situation and was accommodating for meeting to exchange the keys at the beginning and end of her time with Maisy. Grace was gentle on my apartment and sent me a few updates while I was away. Everything seemed to go smoothly! I'm a nervous dog-mom, so it takes quite a bit to win my assurances.

Sarah took care of our cat for four days at our house while we were away. He has to be given medication at certain times during the day and also loves human attention. Sarah was caring and responsible, spent time hanging out with him, and made sure he got his meals and medicine at the right times. She also checked in with us, asked good questions, and responded quickly when we checked in with her. We hope to hire Sarah again, and highly recommend her for petsitting and housesitting.

Jennifer took such great care of Ref while we traveled for spring break. She took him on multiple walks a day, spent quality time playing with him, and even went above and beyond by helping with laundry. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing he was not only well cared for, but truly loved while we were away. We came home to a happy pup and a spotless home, couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommend Jennifer!

FAQs for House Sitting - Highland Park

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Highland Park on Rover is $50.29 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 7,725 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Highland Park. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Highland Park walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Highland Park maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Highland Park choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Highland Park. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
