“Karina was absolutely amazing. She gave us regular updates and spoiled our dogs more than we do. She took care of all of their medical issues. We will definitely ask Karina to watch our dogs again.”

“Anna took great care of my dog, Oso. She sent constant updates and pictures, took him for several long walks and took great care of our home. I highly recommend Anna to take care of your pets!”

About: I’ve always loved animals and tend to connect with them very naturally. I’m patient, attentive, and comfortable learning each pet’s individual personality, routine, and needs. I have experience caring for dogs of all ages and temperaments, including senior dogs, nervous or anxious dogs, and energetic puppies, and I understand that each requires a different kind of patience and attention. I genuinely enjoy spending time with dogs, whether that means going for walks, playing, keeping them company, or simply making sure they feel safe and comfortable while their owner is away. I’m dependable, communicative, and will treat your pet with the same care and attention I’d want someone to give my own. I have a flexible weekly schedule that allows me to make pet care a priority. I currently work three days a week from 7am–3pm, with Thursdays mostly open aside from one afternoon class. I’m available for walks, drop-ins, and pet sitting throughout the week and can often accommodate both daytime and evening requests. I’m very respectful of each pet’s individual routine, personality, and comfort level, especially when caring for them in their own home. I’ll follow any instructions you provide regarding feeding, walks, medications, boundaries, or special needs. I’m attentive, responsible, and happy to send updates so you know your pet is safe, comfortable, and well cared for while you’re away.

About: Why should I be your sitter?? Great question! I have been an animal lover and pet owner my whole life. I have sitter experience for family, friends and neighbors spanning over 20 plus years. I aim to be very responsive and typically get back to interested clients in under 10 mins. I will provide multiple pictures and videos of any visit! I genuinely love spending time with animals and feel like it is not work to give pets a better life and great care. I specialize in: 1. Senior pets! I love our older furry friends and have many years of experience with medications, dietary needs and comfort for older dogs and cats. 2. Anxious pets! Animals that have separation anxiety, need boundaries when on walks ie. No petting, or triggers like thunderstorms. I have owned pets that have all of the above and sit for them as well. 3. Puppies and kittens! I know many are working on training plans that need a strict adherence. I am happy to work with goals you have for your young learners :) I believe that pets are members of our family and want to give every animal the support they need! If you need references, please reach out! I look forward to caring for your family :) I currently make my own hours so I am flexible to any schedule! I can be available for drop ins or any variety of sitting needs! I have experience with crate training and medication administration. I have watched animals with a variety of behavioral support as well. I am open to meeting your pet where they are at.
“Thea watched our two dogs and stayed at our house for a week as well as feeding the fish in my reef tank. She sent daily updates along with many photos. She did a phenomenal job, came back to a clean house and would use her services again in a heartbeat. Truly five stars for Thea.”

“Sarah took care of our cat for four days at our house while we were away. He has to be given medication at certain times during the day and also loves human attention. Sarah was caring and responsible, spent time hanging out with him, and made sure he got his meals and medicine at the right times. She also checked in with us, asked good questions, and responded quickly when we checked in with her. We hope to hire Sarah again, and highly recommend her for petsitting and housesitting.”

“Mae is the best!! She was a great communicator, professional and attentive to our pets and home. We came home to a happy dog and cat and a tidy home! Can’t recommend Mae enough! We will definitely book with her again”

“Gabi was great with our dog. He is anxious and does not being left alone and Gabi made sure that he was comfortable and he had a great time with her when we were gone. We got daily updates and pictures of Clarence making us feeling better that he was in good hands. Will definitely use her again!!”
“Grace was excellent! She checked in regularly, sent lots of pics of Tini and genuinely cared about Tini and her comfort (she's a Senior dog). Grace was respectful of our home and we came home to a clean house, she even washed and folded the sheets she used. We will definitely use Grace again, Tini was very well cared for! Thank you Grace!”

“Phenomenal experience while he house sat and dog sat for us. My dog loves him and he was so communicative and easy to work with! We unfortunately had a gas leak issue during our trip and he was not only quick in identifying it, but worked with our maintenance crew and updated us every step of the way. Would hire again easily!”

About: hello! my name is charlize i’m 22 i’ve grown up with animals my whole life and now i currently work at an animal hospital helping taking care of the dogs and cats that come in to see the vet. i’m very experienced with animals and taking care of animals and i love all different kinds of animals. i’ve worked at the animal hospital now for two and a half years and its been the most amazing two and a half years of my life. i am also going to school to practice becoming a veterinarian so i am really excited to meet all new furry friends for more experience. i am good with administering medication, i am good with dealing with aggressive dogs, i am good with any diabetic cat or dog with dosing insulin. you name it and i can do it!! i work part time hours at the animal hospital during the summer months and full time during fall and winter but i am extremely flexible, as i work on my terms and conditions. i am willing to fit last minute accommodation if it works with my personal schedule but i can also take time out of my day if needed to walk a dog etc. i unfortunately cannot have pets in my building but i am more than willing and able to go to anyone else’s beloved home to pet sit, or walk, or feed animals. i come in with a soft expression and wait for the animals to get used to me and my scent and then i wait for their approval to come further in their home/space. i am very careful to not touch them when they don’t want to be touched and i am always patient with animals especially if they’re new to my route.
“Michael did a great job taking care of our dog Scout and staying at our home while we were away. He took excellent care of our pup, he was very responsive, and he kept us updated throughout his stay which gave us peace of mind. He also sent pictures of Scout who looked happy as can be. The house was in great shape when we returned. I highly recommend Michael and we will definitely look into having him stay again in the future.”

“Abby is an excellent dog sitter. My dog was given a ton of love and my house was in good order when we returned from our vacation. We received daily pics and I'm pretty sure my dog would have been fine if we never returned! Abby obviously loves animals and is a responsible and reasonably priced sitter. Highly recommend!”

“Jennifer stayed in my home and took care of my Shar-pei Chuffy. This is the first time I've used a service to take care of my dog. She was totally reliable and kept me updated with texts and photos. She won over my standoffish boy and he fell completely in love with her. I would recommend her to anyone.”

“Alex worked with our one dog who was nervous around him at first. He spent a lot of time at our house with our two dogs while we were on vacation. When we came back our dogs were tired and happy.”

“Once again, Aury distinguished herself with Logan! He adores her and is so excited when she arrives! She always provides wonderful care and is always open to whatever he is up for while she is with him! She is awesome!👏”

“Scott did a great job with our XL pups, especially the one that is slow to accept new people. Communicated each day (w/ pics), and left the house & yard clean. We would use him again (and plan to) in a heartbeat”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Riverwoods
Sarah was great watching Ollie and housesitting while we were out of town! She was attentive to his needs, and even helped him take his medication each day! She was communicative with us and asked questions when things came up regarding his care. We really appreciated Sarah’s compassionate care with our pet!

Leah is truly invested on taking good care of the furry friends she meets. She took note and asked questions about his behavior, quirks, likes, dislikes, etc. Also approach him in a friendly manner. We were amazed how fast Leo took to her and she gained his trust. The frequent reports and photos showed Leo was very comfortable and happy in his own house during our trip. Highly recommend Leah, she truly does her best to understand and care for the pets on her care.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Riverwoods on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 7,791 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Riverwoods. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Riverwoods walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Riverwoods maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Riverwoods choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Riverwoods. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
