“Rayzel was amazing! My expectations were more than met, and my dog was bitter to have me back. If anyone is looking for someone confident with being around animals, or someone that will go the extra mile to assure your peace of mind with your dog/cat/(insert animal) Rayzel is an exceptional person. Very smart, mindful, caring, and dependable. I will 100% be asking Rayzel for future trips, thank you Rayzel, and thank you Rover for a very great experience.”

“Anna was so great with my dogs! She communicated so well which helped us enjoy our vacation away from our dogs. They were taken care of so well with multiple walks, treats and attention!”

About: Most of my experience was from growing up with my cockapoo Casey. He made me realize how much I enjoyed the company of dogs, and it made me more than happy to help family and friends with looking after their own pets when they would be away. I always want to make sure they're kept loved and appreciated and would do my best to make it feel like their routine is the same as it always is. Since I currently have a part-time job from home, I have the flexibility to take care of pets during the day for any food or potty breaks, as well as availability during the afternoon and evening to give dogs the love and attention they need. I live in a home without a fence, however we live in a neighborhood that makes for easy walking. There is also space indoors for dogs to run around and play with toys, which my previous cockapoo would do all the time.
“We are so happy to have found Beth on Rover. She was great with our dogs and we felt like they were in very good hands. I highly recommend Beth and would definitely use her again if the need arises.”
“Great sitter! Pups were very happy! It was some time ago but just logged back on and noticed I didn’t leave a review. Will definitely use Gabrielle again.”

“Isabelle was great! She sent amazing pictures & my pets were so happy when I got home. As a fellow Rover sitter, I struggle to find sitters who go the extra mile the way I do - but I have a friend in her :)”

“Alex worked with our one dog who was nervous around him at first. He spent a lot of time at our house with our two dogs while we were on vacation. When we came back our dogs were tired and happy.”

“Karina was absolutely amazing. She gave us regular updates and spoiled our dogs more than we do. She took care of all of their medical issues. We will definitely ask Karina to watch our dogs again.”

“Highly recommend Kortney! Leaving my pup for a week is never easy, but she made the entire experience stress-free! She treated my dog like her own and provided regular updates and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. When I got home, I could tell she had been happy, loved, and exceptionally well cared for. I’m so grateful for the wonderful care Kortney provided and will absolutely book with her again. ❤️🐾”

“Maya did an outstanding job for us. She accepted a last minute request, which included a 6-day stay at our home while we were out of town on vacation. She connected very well with our 72 pound medium Bernedoodle, giving him lots of attention and care. Everything went smoothly and she remained focused and supportive to the end, even when our return flight was delayed by 3 hours. Thanks again Maya.”

About: My family has raised dogs since I was young. With the last two dogs (and especially our newest), I've been responsible for at-home training (house-training, walking, commands) and taking care of their needs. In general, I have 3.5 hour night classes Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and a 2 hour class Friday morning. Otherwise, my schedule is pretty open. I would love to chat about any further needs of your dog. Dogs can be pretty different from each other, so how I interact with your dog will depend on their needs and yours. As a general rule, I'm pretty affectionate with dogs but can be more distant if you or your dog prefer that.
“Aury was wonderful, beyond my expectations! She was responsible, trustworthy, and sent pictures every day! My cat warmed up to her, immediately! I would highly recommend Aury for your pet are needs!”

About: I have had a dog since I was a kid and love the companionship they bring to our family. Very experienced in grooming and feeding and all types of care that dogs can require. Have also had senior pets that needed lots of special care that I am always happy to provide. I work from home, so here all day with my Goldendoodle. Also have a flexible work schedule for walks during the day and in the evenings. Weekends we like to take longer walks to explore the neighborhood around us. I have a fenced in yard, a Goldendoodle that loves to play with other dogs, and three 20ish year old sons who love to care for pets.
“Branislava is fantastic! She took such great care of our dog while we were away for the weekend. Nova got lots of walks, snuggles, and play time, and we got so many great pictures and updates. And our house was even cleaner than when we left! Thank you Branislava!”

About: I've grown up with dogs my entire life and have often been one of their primary caretakers. I have cared for dogs from puppy ages all the way to age 19! I have a flexible schedule and am available on both weekdays and weekends. As a college student home for the summer, I have plenty of time to give your pets attention, walks, playtime, and care throughout the day! I’ve grown up around dogs my entire life and understand how important it is for pets to feel safe and comfortable. I’m very patient, attentive, and reliable, and I will always follow your pet’s routine and any special instructions carefully.
“My dog is terrified of thunderstorms and I reached out to Becca to provide company for him during a potential storm. She did a great job with my dog and made sure he was comfortable. I would definitely use Becca again in the future and recommend her to anyone else.”

“Great experience with Justin. He took excellent care of my pups and kept the house clean while I was gone. The dogs were in such a good mood when I returned, which tells me everything I need to know. Will definitely book again!”

About: hello! my name is charlize i’m 22 i’ve grown up with animals my whole life and now i currently work at an animal hospital helping taking care of the dogs and cats that come in to see the vet. i’m very experienced with animals and taking care of animals and i love all different kinds of animals. i’ve worked at the animal hospital now for two and a half years and its been the most amazing two and a half years of my life. i am also going to school to practice becoming a veterinarian so i am really excited to meet all new furry friends for more experience. i am good with administering medication, i am good with dealing with aggressive dogs, i am good with any diabetic cat or dog with dosing insulin. you name it and i can do it!! i work part time hours at the animal hospital during the summer months and full time during fall and winter but i am extremely flexible, as i work on my terms and conditions. i am willing to fit last minute accommodation if it works with my personal schedule but i can also take time out of my day if needed to walk a dog etc. i unfortunately cannot have pets in my building but i am more than willing and able to go to anyone else’s beloved home to pet sit, or walk, or feed animals. i come in with a soft expression and wait for the animals to get used to me and my scent and then i wait for their approval to come further in their home/space. i am very careful to not touch them when they don’t want to be touched and i am always patient with animals especially if they’re new to my route.

Justin provided great care for my two dogs! We have both a senior dog and a puppy and he did great with them both - he even got the puppy to chill out a little. :) He was quick to respond to messages and I know both dogs appreciated the extra attention they received. Thanks, Justin!

Highly recommend Kortney! Leaving my pup for a week is never easy, but she made the entire experience stress-free! She treated my dog like her own and provided regular updates and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. Jo stayed with our nervous, reactive dog Luna for a full week. Jo came over to house multiple times prior to the trip so Luna could get comfortable with her. Jo has a great calm nature about her. We felt very comfortable with her staying out our house and knew Luna was in good hands. Jo gave us daily updates (with pictures). We highly recommend Jo to watch your loved one(s).

This is my third time having Krystal take care of my senior kitty who has some medical issues and needs extra loving care. As always, Krystal gave my kitty exceptional care, going above and beyond! My kitty loves Krystal! And she cleaned my house, it was cleaner than I left it! Krystal, I can’t say thank you enough, especially stepping in last minute!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Vernon Hills on Rover is $34.41 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,629 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Vernon Hills. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Vernon Hills walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Vernon Hills maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Vernon Hills choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Vernon Hills. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
