“Natalie was great -- flexible, reliable, good communicator. I felt totally comfortable leaving her with my senior dog and energetic younger dog. Look forward to booking her again!”

“We’ve booked with Laine several times now and she is so great with our hyper Australian Shepherd! Very communicative with us and keeps us at ease while we are traveling.”

“Angie was absolutely fabulous with our pup! She was so caring, sent plenty of adorable updates, and treated Maisy like her own. It was clear our dog loved her, too! Without a doubt, we’d love to book with Angie again. Thank you for taking such great care of our pup and our apartment!”

“Julia was an amazing sitter for Clancy. Since Clancy is a puppy, Julia was very attentive to ensuring he stayed on his schedule and did not get away with bad behavior. It was very clear she had extensive experience taking care of and training dogs. Highly recommend Julia if you are ever looking for a sitter.”

“Cannot recommend Traci enough. She takes such great care of Sandy while we are away, and always sends updates and photos. It's so comforting to know that Sand is well taken care of and loved while we're gone. And, Traci goes above and beyond -- like taking Sandy for a very long walk right before we got home, knowing that our bodies were still on European time and we'd be exhausted by the time we stepped foot in the door.”

“Kathleen was incredible. She was attentive, communicative, and most importantly, she took phenomenal care of Bodie while giving him plenty of exercise. It is great to be able to travel stress free knowing our boy is in good hands.”

“Paige was absolutely wonderful! She was easy to work with and took excellent care of my very energetic puppy over the weekend. She took him for long walks, threw him his ball for hours, and made sure he was eating well. Highly recommend!”

“Devon did a great job watching our cavapoo Henry. He is very attached to us and he had a wonderful time with her. Devon was very communicative and sent awesome pictures of Henry.”

“We were so reassured having Emily stay in our house with Lola while we were away overnight. She took great care of Lola and we won’t hesitate to call on her again in the future!”

“Maisel is a fantastic sitter. My pup Charlie has a lot of anxiety and I am always nervous leaving him with someone new. Every picture I got Charlie was smiling - Maisel was great at communicating with me and gave me peace of mind that Charlie was well taken care of. She was extremely respectful of my home and left it spotless. I am so grateful she was able to help and will definitely be asking her to dog sit again!”

About: During high school and some of my undergraduate years, I worked on a farm. A part of my job included caring for the farm's pack of dogs. Throughout my time there, I helped deliver several litters, administer medicine to both puppies and senior dogs, as well as care for these dogs on a daily basis. During this time, I also volunteered at a local animal shelter cleaning out cages, and adoption rooms while also serving as a companion to surrendered and rescued dogs. Through these experiences I have come to understand the responsibility and time it takes to care for these family members but that the love you receive makes every accident and eccentricity worth it. I am currently a part-time graduate student at Boston University and am available most mornings and evenings. I am also available for overnights during the week and on weekends. During the weekends I am free all day. With enough planning most times during the work week can work. I currently have two cats, bonded brothers. Both are just about three years old but we have had them since they were one. Currently they are mostly indoor cats, having been rescued from Florida from a hoarding situation. One is most certainly an adventure and loves all his toys from his flopping fish to our bungee rope bug. The other is a lap cat, he loves a window. and a good belly rubbing session. They are both fully vaccinated and in excellent health. They each receive wet and dry food, only organic and fresh (they eat better than I do some days). When I have pet sit in the past, I like to hear and listen to the family's care routine and take notes on schedules, medications, etc. I also love taking pictures while on walks or during play time. I find its a great way to keep everyone updated on the day's events and so that nobody misses their dog or cat too much throughout the day.
“Our family was away for 10 days and Jess took fantastic care of our dog Penny. Penny is a bit standoffish but she cuddled right up to Jess. She took Penny on walks, played with her in the backyard and took her to the park. Would highly recommend.”

“Allison was wonderful with our two dogs! She was very positive and willing to work to gain their trust with her calm, cheerful attitude. We loved the daily photos, videos with commentary (!!), and updates. We highly recommend Allison.”

About: I am an active individual who loves caring for animals and spending time with them! I have had two dogs in my life and have always been attentive to their needs. I just graduated from undergrad and will be starting my masters in counseling this fall while working part time, too. I manage my time well! I care for pets in clients home by being respectful of the fact that this is not my house. I am being trusted to care for a pet in someone else’s home and I take that very seriously.
“Julie-Ann was so great with our dogs, so communicative with us, and so thoughtful that it's hard to express our gratitude. Both dogs are rescues and they obviously fell in love with Julie-Ann. We came home to two relaxed and happy pups. The house was well cared for and we are very very happy customers.”

“Nicole was great with our two 10-year-old cattle dogs for their first overnight stay with a new sitter. She was kind, professional, and easy to talk to about all their routines and quirks beforehand, which put us at ease leaving our pups in someone new's care. While we were away, she sent updates at the key points in their schedule, so we always knew they were fed, walked, and settled. Everything about the stay felt smooth and well cared for, and we're already looking forward to booking with her again!”

“Once again Marilyn has done a superb job staying over and taking care of my cat kids. She does the essentials, of course, but also engages them in a lot play as evidenced by the pictures she sends each day. It is clear that my cats really like her, and Marilyn remains my go-to sitter.”

About: I have years of experience dog sitting large breed puppies and senior dogs. I am comfortable administering medication to animals. Additionally, I have significant experience caring for service dogs. I am a recent graduate with an abundance of free time, particularly over the summer. Other than the infrequent trip, I am available 7 days a week for pet care! I treat your home with the upmost respect, leaving as clean or cleaner than when I arrived. Additionally, I value your privacy and will maintain professionalism at all times.
“Claudia was wonderful with our Luna girl. She communicated frequently with photos and clearly loved our baby! Highly, highly recommend and hope to have her stay with Luna again!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Newton
J was amazing with our boy Chase. We chose her for her obvious experience with cats and administering meds. She updated us every day with pics and notes and was able to attend to him when his eye condition acted up. We felt so comfortable leaving him in her excellent care. He took to her right away❤️ We will absolutely be contacting her again in the future!!
Julia took phenomenal care of our two dogs. She walked them, played with them, took them to the dog park several times during our week+ vacation. She provided excellent updates and helped with a few other things that popped like some deliveries, our neighbor needing a key when locked out of their house and watering some plants. The dogs were well taken care of and we plan to use Julia again. She was very responsive and the house was clean when we returned. We can't thank Julia enough for giving us peace of mind and taking great care of our dogs.

Julia was an amazing sitter for Clancy. Since Clancy is a puppy, Julia was very attentive to ensuring he stayed on his schedule and did not get away with bad behavior. It was very clear she had extensive experience taking care of and training dogs. Highly recommend Julia if you are ever looking for a sitter.

Oriana took great care of our dog Goose and housesat for us while we were gone for a long weekend. She came over beforehand to meet Goose and was very attentive and asked a lot of questions. During the stay, she was responsive any time we checked in. Would book again!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Newton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Newton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Newton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Newton. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
