“Colleen is fantastic! She is so considerate of my senior pup’s routine and always attentive to her diet and medication needs. Colleen also helped my very shy pup come out of her shell. And she sends super frequent updates and tons of photos. I’d trust her with my pup any time!”

“Emily was so great with my cat! She paid a lot of attention to his behaviors and I could see he was having a good time when she sent update photos. We booked her for housesitting, and she did a perfect job. Would recommend her!”

“Kathleen was an amazing sitter! Both my dog and my cat absolutely loved her. She sent a lot of photos and updates, which is very appreciated as I got to see what they were up to throughout the day. When I got back the house was spotless and our pets were tuckered out from playing with her. Would definitely book with her again.”

“Traci has great energy and will do everything in her power to make sure your pet is safe, comfortable and well taken care of. She is an exceptionally responsible, quick-learning sitter, and an excellent communicator. Plus, she seriously makes the best shortbread cookies I have EVER tasted. We will not hesitate to book her again!”

“I had a wonderful experience with Victoria (Rev). We recently moved to Boston and Rev stayed in my apartment with Charlie for 5 nights, which is the longest I have had to leave him since moving. Charlie is older and has been a little anxious while adjusting to our move and it was clear that Rev gave him the love and attention he needed to keep him calm while I was away. Rev sent regular updates and photos, which helped keep my mind at ease. My flight was delayed and Rev was super accommodating to stick around until I got home. I would absolutely recommend Rev to anyone looking for a reliable, communicative, and truly exceptional dog sitter. We look forward to working with Rev in the future!”

“Our family was away for 10 days and Jess took fantastic care of our dog Penny. Penny is a bit standoffish but she cuddled right up to Jess. She took Penny on walks, played with her in the backyard and took her to the park. Would highly recommend.”

“Cressida was amazing! Lovely to work with and did a terrific job looking after Molly and the house. This was the first time we left our new dog overnight and Cressida kept us up to date with how they were doing, asked questions when she needed things I had forgotten to mention, and it all went great.”

“Sabina was wonderful! Made friends with our reactive dog very quickly! She also took care of him during a power outage, and we are so grateful. We came back to a happy and relaxed lil guy!”

“Marcy was a brilliant, attentive and caring sitter for our dog and cat while we took a two week trip. She was always responsive, sent daily updates, and was even flexible enough to stay on an extra two days. Would book again in a heartbeat!”

“Alison was wonderful! My cats were very well taken care of and I got regular updates. When I came home, everything was clean and my cats were very happy. Highly recommend!”

“We were so happy to have Devika stay in our home with our dog Lucy while we attended a wedding! Devika was very responsive and sent lots of photos of Lucy which I appreciated. She was available on short notice and left our house in great shape. Thank you Devika!!”

“Kept a close eye on my elderly dog with a heart condition. When something looked amiss, she contacted my vet and took my dog to Angel Medical. Chloe's back home, looking good.”

“Maddie provided a safe loving environment for my little dog, Lucia! She also went beyond just taking care of her by sending me daily updates & photos- which made me very happy since this was the longest I'd ever been away from her. Maddie also helped out with moving cars due to some ongoing street work requiring them to be moved while I was away. Highly recommend her for your dog sitting needs!”

“Julia W. was great with our exuberant goldendoodle, Jake. She clearly loves animals, and has excellent experience with dog care and training. Jake was busy each day with multiple walks, playtime, and then some nice down time. Julia communicated well, sent us pictures, was very responsive. We knew that our dog was in great hands. Thank you so much!”

About: I’ve had cats since I was 8 years old. With the 16 years of experience with cats, I believe every fur baby needs a home away from home. Like with every pet parent, I strive for the best with my cat. If you choose me to watch your fur baby, I will provide the best and safest environment for them. Do they need a room to themselves? You got it. Has explosive diarrhea? I have cleaning supplies. Medical issues? Another way to keep me on my toes. I hope you consider me as a prospective aunt to your kitter cat or doggo and can’t wait to fill up my camera role with adorable pictures. I look forward to hearing from you 💕 I am a grad student at Brandeis University. My classes are usually over by 2 pm, so after then I’m usually at my apartment caring for my cat and completing schoolwork. So needless to say, I have a lot of flexibility within my schedule for your pets individual needs. If I am doing home visits, I would like to visit the clients home a day or two prior to the arranged visit(s) to understand the animals needs and to see if we would be a good fit. I believe it is important to establish an understanding with the animal in question before I frequent the premises so there isn’t any unnecessary stress for your pet. In regards to boarding, I have a medium sized apartment that would be good for any cat or small-medium dog. There are multiple grassy areas for bathroom breaks and walks around the premises. You will have to provide me with your animals usual schedule (times for bathroom breaks, when and how much time are committed to walks, feeding times, etc.) so I can build my set around them and their needs

“Ciana was great with my two French bulldogs. Very communicative and provided good updates. She also went above and beyond with my older dog - hand feeding him when he wouldn’t eat. Very respectful of my home. Would def book again!”

About: While I don’t have my own pet, I have been around and taken care of dogs quite often. I regularly take care of all my loved ones’ cats and have had cat sitting jobs as well. I’m a responsible and reliable doctoral graduate who will do a good job, and be sure to keep solid communication with clients! I currently work and study full time from home. I am quite flexible with my schedule and can often help out on weeknights and weekends too! I have an unfenced large yard as well as a large house. I can go on runs, (I’m an avid runner who ran cross country and track in high school!) and I absolutely love playing with dogs. My neighborhood is very friendly for dog walks, with fellow dog walkers around! I don’t have a dog or other pets, so no interactions would disrupt dog-sitting. I have three roommates who can give the dogs extra love :)

Olivia was wonderful! My cat is a very social, affectionate guy - he really needs companionship when I have to travel as he can sometimes get ibd flair ups when he is stressed, and I can tell she kept him in excellent company. He was perfectly calm and happy when I got back. I really appreciated Olivia taking the time to do an intro visit; she is friendly and professional, and struck an immediate friendship with my cat - it's always a little scary to leave your pet with a new sitter, but it was easy to trust Olivia with him upon first meeting her. She sent check in texts and photos. We look forward to booking with her again in the future!

Meghan was wonderful, a true animal lover - it was obvious how much our three cats and a dog loved her by the end of her stay. She checked in with us by text every day we were out of town, asked all the right questions and sent adorable photos. She went well beyond just the usual caretaking, doing things like replacing the cat box fill and spending quality time with the animals. She left our house immaculate. She is attending school to become a veterinary tech, and I have no doubt she will one of the best!
We couldn't be more pleased having J stay overnight in our home with our 14 year old kitty, Ricky. She sent wonderful photos of him and let us know how he did while she was with him. J is very sensitive, capable, and calm and brings a reassuring and creative energy with her that made me feel very relaxed being away from our beloved Ricky! We will absolutely have her come back again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Newton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Newton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Newton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Newton. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
