“Jona took incredible care of our sweet Cooper while we were on vacation earlier this month. We greatly appreciated the thoroughness of her communication before and during Cooper's stay with her, and her thoughtful, calm approach. Cooper is a senior dog who requires multiple medications, and she handled this with ease. We will definitely be repeat customers.”

“Marcela was very flexible with timing, thorough in following instructions, and took extra care to make sure my dog was comfortable and safe post-op. It was nice to be able to relax on my trip knowing he was well taken care of.”

“Miguelina and her daughter did a wonderful job with communicating with me, especially when I mentioned it was my first time using Rover. They also would send pictures of Langley and he looked happy and like he was having a great time, which made it easier for me while I was gone. They do seem take multiple dogs at a time, which is fine, but it would have been nice to see Langley playing with other dogs and when he was getting walked for me to know he was getting walked.”

“Ada was an amazing sitter, she was a delight and she made me feel assured that my dog would be well cared for while I was away. She provided reports that put my mind at ease and showed me that Annie was enjoying her visit.”

“The best dog sitters! Chelsea-Jo & Austin are so wonderful every time with our dog. They treat him like family and always go above and beyond, sending us pictures and providing updates. We are so lucky to have found them for our pup!”

About: I understand just how much our pups mean to us - they're family! Over the years, I've cared for dogs of all ages, each with their own unique personality, needs, and routines. I love getting to know what makes each pup special and providing gentle, attentive care that helps them feel comfortable and loved. I treat every pup with the same patience, kindness, and affection I give my own. I work from home full-time, so your pup will have plenty of companionship throughout the day. My schedule is pretty flexible to allow for regular potty breaks, playtime and meal schedules. I provide calm, clean, and cozy environment, with a fully fenced yard where your pup can safely enjoy some fresh air and playtime. I also send regular photos and updates throughout their stay.

“Tamara was an amazing sitter to our two dogs! Both dogs (one a recent rescue) were immediately comfortable with her. She was very responsive and gave us frequent updates so we didn’t have to worry at all about how the dogs were doing. She was also very flexible with our pick up time when our flight was canceled and we got home much later than expected. We will definitely book again in the future!!”

“Emmanuel went above and beyond taking care of our dog who got really sick right after we left on vacation. We really appreciate the extra time, care, and attention and Kubo had a great time with Emmanuel and the pack.”

“Youngri was amazing. I felt completely at ease throughout the night, knowing that my senior dog was in good hands. It’s clear that she and her family have a genuine love and care for animals. She kept me updated on how my 16-year-old pup was doing and maintained a high level of professionalism at all times. I will definitely work with her again.”

“Rae took great care of Jesse for a week. She has lots Of toys and activities for the busy pet. I’m so glad my dog also got to enjoy a vacation. I would rebook with Rae.”

“Boy, i feel really lucky to have come across Donna. Donna was awesome with Suzie. I was concerned since Suzie can be a feisty pup. But she took to Donna in no time and they really seemed to hit it off. Donna was very fast to respond and my mind was so at ease knowing that Suzie was in her care. I think that is about the highest praise i can possibly give.”

“Cate and her family were amazing! They loved our dog like she was their own and she’s looking forward to spending more time with them next time. They did a great job and we would recommend them to anyone!”

“Jennifer and her wonderful dog JJ took the best care of my 6-month-old mini bernedoodle for the week. It was very comforting knowing that Daisy was so well cared for. I will not hesitate to book Jennifer in the future for any of my dog sitting needs.”

“Andrea was absolutely fabulous!! She kept my dog for a couple of days while we moved. My dog became immediately attached to her and she handled both my dog and hers so so well! My dog typically doesn’t like other dogs, however Andrea understood both of their personalities intuitively and was able to adjust to them to make each comfortable and even tolerable of each other. When I came to pick Josie up I saw they were even sharing toys!! ? 5/5 highly recommend! I will be rebooking Andrea in future.”

“Amanda and her family took such great care of George when I was gone for a long trip. I could tell by the frequent updates and photos that he was having a great time. She was very communicative when he had an upset stomach and kept me updated. I would not hesitate to have George stay with them again!”

“Helena and Nathan are wonderful! They send photos and updates without prompting. They were also clear in their communication and follow up. They even accommodated an early pickup! Will absolutely use them again.”

“Joy has been an exceptional caretaker for our senior dog! She was very flexible with our odds drop off and pick up needs; she sent pictures every day; and our dog loved exploring her yard with her dog, Caz, and her daughter. We will absolutely book with Joy again!”

“We needed a sitter for our sweet little beagle mix, Cleo, over the President's Day weekend. We're so glad we found Melissa. She spoiled Cleo with walks in the woods and lots of lying outside in the the backyard in the sun (Cleo's favorite things). Melissa gave us an update each day including photos of our little girl, enjoying her own doggie vacation. We enjoyed our time away, knowing that Cleo was so well cared for.”

“Christine took great care of my 3 dogs, and they were quite happy at her house. She sent updates and photos, and she was very responsive to our messages. She’s wonderful.”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Newington
This was our 4th time booking with Kimberly, and once again, we had a great experience! Yomi was recovering from some stomach problems before her stay, but I trusted Kimberly to take good care of her. Yomi came home happy and healthy, which gave me such peace of mind. We truly appreciate Kimberly’s great care! We will definitely be booking with her again!

Carlos is an amazing sitter—diligent, caring, and communicative. It was so nice to receive photos of Mochi several times a day while on vacation. On top of his clear love for dogs and understanding of Mochi, he was super understanding when we had a travel snafu on the way home. We will happily leave Mochi with Carlos again and recommend his services. Thank you so much.

My dog was absolutely obsessed with Joanna and her husband! Despite some pretty wacky weather over three days from 88° to 55°and drizzly, JJ still got good walks in! Very much appreciate. He barely greeted me from the couch when I first arrived to pick him up! I think he wanted to stay!

Anne took excellent care of Milo, our miniature poodle, once again. Anne is conscientious and trustworthy. She adheres exactly to Milo's supplement and medication schedules We can tell that Milo, who is wary of strangers, is very comfortable with her. Thank you so much, Anne!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Newington home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Newington.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Newington sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
