“We had Alex for a short overnight stay and she was great! She provided us with updates throughout the day… we had no worries while we were away, knowing our dog was being well taken care of. We would love to have Alex again sometime!”

“Penny was very easy to work with and my dog was very relaxed around her. She had no problem doing anything I asked was very sensitive to my dog’s needs.”
“I can’t say enough good things about Carolyn. It’s so great to have someone take care of my fur baby and my house while I’m out of town. Can’t recommend her enough!”

“Rachel was amazing! She did a great job with our cats and dog. We unexpectedly needed a second overnight pet sitter, she was quick to respond to my request. Thankfully, it worked with her schedule. It was a relief to know someone familiar with our pets was able to care for them again.”

“Pagie took wonderful care of our pets while we were out of town. We have one dog who is very shy and timed with strangers, Paige did a wonderful job with her and quickly made progress with her. I knew she felt comfort when I was getting updates about their walks, Lilly never wants to go on a walk with a new sitter until at least 3-4 days in, she's definitely a dog whisperer. She also handled our rambunctious labradoodle with ease and gave lots of love to our kitty who is usually hiding away from the dogs’ craziness. Paige provided daily updates and pics which put this dog mom at ease. We came home to a clean home and happy pets, what more could we ask for! We’ll definitely be booking with Paige again.”

“Christine did an excellent job caring for our two dogs and house. We were greatful she was willing to house/dog sit for us when we had a last minute family emergency pop up.”

“Kristina did a fantastic job coming and staying with my dog. She sent multiple videos and kept me up to date throughout my trip. I would recommend her to anyone.”

“Olivia went above and beyond this week! She extended her stay when my plans changed because of weather and was very flexible with her schedule. She also did some housekeeping tasks that helped me out when I was away, I appreciate her willingness to take care of them for me!”

“McKenna is so prepared, communicative, and sweet to our pup! She asked questions when needed and kept us updated on how our dog was doing while we were away. She also took great care of our home and we would be delighted to have her back any time, and completely trust her with our dog. 10/10 experience!!”

“Tilia did a fantastic job with my stubborn but rambunctious dog Luna. Luna was in great spirits when I got home, the house was in perfect condition and she even watered my plants! Would definitely have her sit Luna again.”

“Lilah is now our go to Rover for home stays when we are out of town! She checks in when she arrives, sends pictures daily and takes our dog for a walk. We will gladly have her stay again!”

“Rachel was awesome! She was great at communicating and kept me well updated while I was away. My pup was happy and content in her care. She was super flexible with my last minute scheduling. She did an awesome job.”

“Breanca was amazing! She was so communicative and made sure we got plenty of photos. We got home and our animals didn’t even seem to miss us, I know that means they got so much love while we were gone. Thank you so much!! I would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing rover!”

“Paige was such a gift! We loved all the photo updates while we were away and it's clear Paige is quite the cat whisperer. Thank you so much for taking such good care of our girls 🥰”

“Beth was such a relief after a few negative experiences with dog sitters at our home. She was extremely communicative the whole time during our vacation, took excellent care of (and loved) our Nellie, and ultimately helped us have a stress-free trip out of state. We SO appreciated her kind and warm attitude and would love to book her again!”

“Biiftuu was an excellent dog sitter. She clearly took good care of my little Aussie poo. She sent good pictures and left the house in excellent shape. I would hire her again.”

“Meghan took great care of our pups, cat, and our chickens while we were away! We couldn’t ask anymore from a sitter; she gave them plenty of love, was very responsive, gave frequent updates, and went above and beyond! This was our first experience with Rover and we couldn’t be happier!”

“I wish I could give Allison more than 5 stars! She did an amazing job communicating, sending photos, and taking care of our Frenchie & Pitbull. From dealing with some messes from our sick/anxious pup on the first day to going for a long walk once the weather cooled down a bit, Allison was fantastic, positive, and comforting to have in our home. On our end, the whole experience was really great and went without a hitch. Would 100% book with Allison again and recommend her to anyone with dogs in the Detroit area.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Mendota
We just got back from a weeklong trip & Bri watched my 3 year old Basset Hound. I CAN NOT say enough wonderful things about her. Butters is a neurotic, difficult dog and she was MAGIC! Her communication was top notch. So many pictures and videos all week (which we loved). Our house was in better shape than when we left. Can not recommend enough!

Abi is simply fantastic. She has taken care of our dogs twice, and the second time she came in, they actually ran to her and gave her kisses they like her so much. She gives constant picture and video updates, is always accessible, and left our house cleaner than we did!
Meghan took such great care of our dog! We could tell he was well loved while we were gone. Meghan went above and beyond - she left the house very tidy after her stay and did a great job administering additional, unexpected meds. She was very responsive and sent updates regularly. We are looking forward to our next stay!

Constance was great!! I was a bit nervous leaving my kitty after having her for only a month but Constance made sure to play with her and give her plenty of cuddles and attention. She sent great updates and pictures while I was away and I wasn’t worried one bit. She even got my kitty to use her cat tree! I would 100% recommend :)

Giovanna looked after our Dash for 10 days. She sent up updates and photos from time to time and upon our return, he was cheerful and happy. Everything at our house was in good order, too. Throughout, Giovanna was professional and positive, even when our travel schedule changed at the last minute. This was our first experience using Rover and overall so much better than boarding! Thank you, Giovanna!

Pete had a great weekend with Julia!! Walks when it wasn’t raining, playing with toys inside and having a treats scavenger hunt when it was raining, snuggles on the sofa, etc.!! Julia sent photos and updates, and is just generally a wonderful pet and house-sitter!! Pete is looking forward to her next visit! ❤️

Jackie was amazing! She exceeded expectations and helped me be able to feel a lot more comfortable during my 15 day trip away from my 2 dogs. I have a Husky and a Samoyed that have been boarded before but I wanted them to have more one on one attention. Jackie took them on walks, played with them, let them sleep with her and even cleaned their feet when one of them kept playing in the mud. She also took care of my home. She reached out if she had any questions, but for the most part she was pretty self sufficient. She sent some photos and videos. At the end of the dog/housesitting booking she made sure all of the dishes were cleaned, set aside the dirty laundry, took out the trash and even stayed a bit later to try and minimize the time that my dogs were alone before my flight arrived. I highly recommend Jackie!you won’t be disappointed.

FAQs for House Sitting - Mendota
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Mendota on Rover is $42.8 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 3,468 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Mendota. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Mendota walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Mendota maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Mendota choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
