“Thank you so much to Le’Quitta and her family for taking such great care of Boss ☺️ She kept me updated with pictures and communicated well. Will definitely be rebooking! We knew he had a good time when he slept the majority of the day when we got him home❤️ Thanks again!!!”

“From start to finish, Michaela did a wonderful job watching our little dog Coco! She always responded in a timely manner and kept in touch with us, sending pictures and updates daily. We’re so grateful that Coco was loved and taken well care during our trip abroad. We would highly recommend Michaela if you should need a loving and caring pet sitter!!🥰🐾”

“Ethel took such great care of our three french bulldogs. She was very responsive, gave us updates with pictures, and gave our pups lots of love and attention. Couldn’t have asked for more. Thanks Ethel!”

“Sherri is very caring and honest. I was happy that Maggie was in good hands for 1 1/2 days. Highly recommended. She has a heart of an angel. I am disappointed that she is moving to another state.”

“Jasmine is amazing! She sticks to a schedule and my pup always loves hanging out with Jasmine and his pup friends. She send pictures and updates everyday. She’s so great!”

“Chris was great!! This was the longest we had left our pups for (2 weeks) so were nervous to leave them at first, but all and all Chris was amazing! He kept us updated regularly (multiple picture update a day) and kept the pups super active with regular walks and trips to the dog park. Would definitely use Chris again and recommend to others.”

“Carolina was amazing! She just watched my dog for the first time over a long weekend. I usually am hesitant leaving her with new people but she sent me plenty of updates right away and continued them throughout the stay. She walked them a ton, took them to run in a little park and gave Hazy even a nail trim because he nail was getting caught. I have nothing but good things to say and will be booking again for sure!”

“Gus was a happy camper at Ciara’s home! Great communication and very accommodating. We really appreciate her care for Gus and would definitely use her again if we need dog care in the Williamsburg area.”

“Cyndi was absolutely wonderful with my dog Sweet Potato. She sent pictures and videos while I was gone, which made me so happy she was being well cared for. This was the longest I have ever left my dog and I felt no fear knowing my dog was in such great hands. She treated my dog as if it were her own and I would highly recommend to anyone searching for a reliable and caring sitter.”

“Hilary did great with my girl Hope! Hope is a high maintenance doggo but she was comfortable with Hilary for the duration of her four night stay. I will definitely be booking with Hilary again in the future!”

“Pamela and Paul are legit ‘dog people’. They got to know Ollie pretty quickly and confidently helped him ease into a friendship with Marlowe and another client. I received the usual photos of Ollie with a ball or snuggling humans, but was surprised to also receive photos of Ollie playing and snuggling with the other dogs, which was a whole new experience for him! I’m happy to know he was so well taken care of during his time with Pamela, Paul and Marlowe and will reach out again for future boarding!”

“Evie was amazing. We had a 6 night trip and she was able to help watch our 1 year old Dutch Shepherd. Large backyard which is great for the pup to run around in as well. We will definitely ask again when we go on another trip!”

“Grace took such good care of Macy for a long weekend! I got picture updates throughout her stay and she looked very happy the whole time. Looked like lots of walks and playtime”

“Our dogs had a fantastic time with Stephanie and her family. They took wonderful care of Indy & Daisy, sent picture updates, and detailed how their time was with them. Will be booking again!”

“I felt very good about leaving my dog with Amanda. I was gone almost a whole week but because of all the pictures and texts it didn’t seem that long. Amanda will definitely be my go to sitter the next time I need one.”

“We are so grateful to have found Ayme! We have an anxious dachshund named Newman that we haven't been able to leave with anyone but my mother. Ayme set up two meet and greets with Newman to garner a relationship with him prior to an overnight stay. Newman was still a bit anxious and fearful when we first dropped him off but both Amye and Andrew went above and beyond to make him as comfortable as possible and everything was great from there on out! We received lots of photos allowing us to relax on our trip knowing that Newman was doing great and with people who truly cared about his well being. I can't say enough good things about our experience with Ayme and Andrew; it meant so much to us and we will definitely re-book.”

“Shulamit was an absolutely amazing dog sitter! She was extremely flexible, sent me picture updates, and taught me something new to use for Mia. Your pet is in good hands with this sitter!”

“Stacey was the ultimate sitter and I couldn't have asked for a better first experience with Rover! She scheduled time for our dogs to meet in a public area first followed by a tour of her home and yard where Sebastian would be staying. I received photos of how much fun he was having while on my trip, and to be honest I bet he's looking forward to his next stay, what with having a four legged buddy and a wrap-around, fenced-in yard for unlimited zoomies. I can't recommend Stacey enough and will be sticking with her whenever it suits going forward.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Mechanicsville
Jasmine was such a caring and sweet person to watch over Meimei! I asked to book with her the day of since my travel plans had changed and she was so accommodating and flexible. I really appreciated the last minute booking and how communicative she was. She sent great photo updates and I knew I could trust her with Meimei. I’ll definitely be back since I can tell Jasmine really takes care of the dogs and gives them a great experience when they stay with her!!

My dog has been a couple years now. We had this pet family. For us we do long stays & short I’ve been in Florida,Chicago, out the country Bahamas. I rather use this family for long stays. Because my dog knows this family. If you have flights just always communicate with your pet sitter. Me& my husband both like this family.

Nancy was absolutely wonderful! She and her husband took care of my Maddie as if she was family. I received constant communication and prompt responses when checking in during my trip and coordinating drop off/pickup. Nancy was even kind enough to take Maddie a day early when inclement weather caused travel plans to shift. She also notified me right away when she noticed Maddie was scratching more than normal and was quick to offer suggestions to help her feel more comfy. As an anxious dog mama, I felt at ease knowing she was being so well cared for.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
