“We rebooked the house sitting service with Rebecca and she was great! She will go above and beyond for your fur baby! She didn’t just house sit, she kept our dog very active each day. She played with him way more than our last sitter! She also made sure to set up a play date with our neighbors dog each day. Communication is so important to me and Rebecca was really great with keeping me updated; she sent me pictures of kylo everyday. She always answered the phone when I called a couple of times so that really helped make me feel at ease. We will definitely continue to use her services!”

“Amber was lovely! Sat for the day in my home on a last minute request, checked in frequently with updates and pictures, and followed all care instructions ❤️ Thank you for the great care!”

“An overall outstanding experience. Lauren was professional and extremely reliable. I received daily status reports, and pictures of my cat. Highly recommended. I will use her again.”

“Willow is so sweet and loving to my baby Afi! She loves animals so much. Super easy to work with & communicative. I give her a shared note on my phone with directions and she follows them thoroughly. I’ll be booking Willow again!”

About: I love dogs and I’m always happy to give them a playful day. Walks, runs, ball, frisbee…you name it! Here to make sure there’s more to a dog’s day besides sitting at home. Can be arranged for daily, weekly, randomly. Hoping to build strong friendships with owners and pups! All about taking new routes and trying new things. Making sure they are walked, fed, hydrated, happy, and healthy! All the belly rubs in the world and maybe a treat or two if the owner approves.
“Crystal was a great sitter- kept my pup company and gave him lots of attention, sent daily updates and pics, and took good care of the house. Would def use her services again and recommend her!”

“Sidney has become the first person we reach out to when we’re going out of town. She is so great with our pack, even our skittish kitty hangs out with her! We trust her completely in our home.”

“Alex is the best! Highly conscientious, a great communicator, and a real animal lover! Our dog's digestive challenges didn't faze him and he worked hard to develop a connection with her. (she's very shy and wary of strangers). At his suggestion, we had two meet-and-greet sessions and Alex took careful note of all the information we gave him. Alex left the house in perfect condition, even washing and changing the sheets on the bed. We would ask Alex back anytime! Thank you, Alex!”

“Christine was wonderful! This was our first time booking her services, and I would highly recommend her. From our first meet and greet, it was clear she had a lot of experience caring for animals. She was easy to talk to, had good communication during our time away, and went out of her way to care for our dog, Jovi (who can be a bit of a handful and hard to walk sometimes!). She even went out of her way to take him to his favorite park/trail one of the evenings. The coolest thing was finding out she had cared for Jovi when he was a puppy before we adopted him (we’ve had him since he was 1 year old). His previous owner had also contacted Christine for dog sitting, and she was able to look back through her pictures and find young puppy photos of our Jovi! It was totally meant to be! 😆 I highly recommend Christine for all of your animal care needs!”

“Brianna took great care of my dog and my house. She sent frequent updates about my dog’s activities and was very communicative. I highly recommend her services! Five stars.”

“Dina took great care of both my dog and my house while I was away! My dog Penny takes a while to warm up to new people but she seemed very happy with Dina.”

About: I’ve cared for dogs of all sizes, ages and care needs. I’ve helped family, friends, neighbors and private clients with walks, drop-ins, sitting and bathing. From caring for litters of 11 puppies to managing up to 8 dogs at a time in the home, I am well equipped to help you care for your pups. My experience working in a veterinary setting has set me up to help manage medication administration and postoperative care. I care for pets full time. I have openings for walks and drop-ins early mornings, late afternoons and evenings Monday-Saturday. My availability for sitting is pretty open at the moment. I care for your pets according to your pet’s regular schedule and individual needs. I’m very patient and like to go at your pet’s pace. I’m always honored when I have the opportunity to help folks care for their beloved animals and treat both their home environment and their care needs the same way I do with my own - with kindness, consideration, integrity and respect.
“I see why Woody has gotten so many positive reviews about both the care they provide for the dogs but also the person they are. I am so particular about who cares for my dogs while I’m away and woody made me feel so secure!!!! My dogs adored her and so do I!! They updated me throughout the day and sent personalized videos. They were attentive and listened carefully when I discussed my dogs and what they’re used to. You can tell she really cares. On a personal note - Woody is a bright light of a person, such a pleasure to have found them and met them for future dog sitting needs. Thank you Woody”

“Joely did an AMAZING JOB, she took care of my dogs at the last minute while I underwent a minor emergency procedure at the hospital. She fed them, played with them and took them out 3 times a day. I am so appreciative of her help and look forward to rebooking her, I definitely recommend her!”

About: I have loved animals since I was a little girl, especially dogs. When I was growing up my dream dog was a pit bull. My dream came true. I have a beautiful pitbull named Maui. Everyone would always tell me that getting a pitbull was one of the worst dogs you can own. But I believe that there is no worst dog. Every dog has their own personality just like humans. It all depends on how they are raised. I try to take care of any dog the best I could. I would treat them as if they were a little kid. I would play with them, I wouldn’t neglect them. I would feed them, pet them, scratch their belly’s. I would want them to be the happiest doggo when I’m taking care of them. I’m currently in between jobs. I’m new to Austin from California. As of right now I am available 7 days a week, anytime of the day. I make sure I know all of the animals needs. I currently have 2 cats and a little weenie dog and all of their needs are different. Each animal has different needs and I strive to make them feel the most comfortable.
“Shameray always does a wonderful job house sitting for us. She is so good with our dogs and cat and they can definitely be a handful. She is very tidy and also very responsive to any messages and sends lots of pics which is great. Thank you for another job well done, Shameray!”

“Absolutely outstanding experience! Kate cared for our dogs and cat and also watched our home, and she exceeded expectations in every way. Communication was excellent from start to finish, with thoughtful updates and daily photos that gave us total peace of mind. Our pets were clearly happy, relaxed, and well cared for. On top of that, she left our home spotless, which was such a great surprise to come back to. It genuinely felt like our home and pets were treated with the same care and attention she would give her own. If you are even considering hiring Kate, do it immediately! We will absolutely book Kate again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and professional sitter.”

“Kylie did a nice job at the house with Sandie and Prissy. They seemed happy, healthy, calm, and cared for when we returned. I’m booking Kylie again already for another quick trip out of town.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Fitzhugh
Tracy was absolutely wonderful! From the very beginning, I could tell how organized, thoughtful, and prepared she was. During our initial consultation, she came with her own book to take notes and asked questions I hadn’t even thought to consider. I really appreciated how thorough she was because it gave me so much confidence that my dogs were going to be in great hands. Throughout her stay, Tracy kept me constantly updated—not just with photos, but with thoughtful text updates that let me know how my dogs were doing and how things were going at home. She also went above and beyond by helping with a few housekeeping tasks, which I truly appreciated. What stood out to me most was how comfortable and relaxed my dogs looked in every photo. They didn’t seem stressed or nervous at all, and when I came home, I could immediately tell that they had been well cared for. They were completely at ease, which told me everything I needed to know about the care and attention Tracy gave them. Tracy is trustworthy, organized, communicative, and genuinely caring. It was clear that she put her best effort into caring for my dogs as if they were her own. I really appreciated her open communication and attention to detail throughout the entire stay. I would absolutely hire Tracy again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who will treat their pets and their home with the same care and respect they would themselves!

Kate did an outstanding job taking care of our dogs. From the moment she arrived, she immediately put us at ease by asking thoughtful questions about each dog’s routine, any special needs they had, and whether there was anything extra she could do to make them comfortable while we were away. She bonded with our dogs immediately, and it was obvious they were in great hands. Throughout the stay, she kept us updated with messages and photos, which gave us tremendous peace of mind. She even offered to spend additional time with them if we needed it, which really showed how much she cares. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend Kate to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and professional pet sitter. We will absolutely be using her again!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Fitzhugh walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Fitzhugh maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Fitzhugh choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
