“Alex was great! She was very accommodating on a fairly short notice. She came and met our dog and home ahead of time to get the hang of our place and routine. There was one need for problem solving while away, but she worked with me from afar to work on the best care and plan for my pup. My neighbors talked to her and thought she was great and got along great with our local neighbors and the neighborhood pets on walks with our dog (she is kind of a local celebrity, our dog but Alex too). She gave me daily updates with photos, but nothing overwhelming that I felt distracted on my vacation. Very grateful and looking to book her again.”

“Andrew did a great job with my pooches. I think they didn’t even miss me after three days being gone. He was very quick to respond and was great with the communication. The dogs instantly took to him when they met him. Would definitely use his services again.”

“Keeley was an amazing sitter. Sent so many pictures and updates and truly just loved on our pet with cuddles, car rides and great walks and playtime. Left the house clean and tidy and was just a pleasure to work with. Will be rebooking her soon!”

“Iwona and her husband did a wonderful job taking care of my diabetic pug. He requires daily insulin and eye meds, and they were careful about following the instructions perfectly. They kept me up to date, sent pics, and left my place clean. I highly recommend and trust them.”
“Vasilisa looked after our 11 month old puppy ‘Happy’—and was just perfect! She really tuned into our pup’s energy and managed her routine like a champ. It was Happys first time being away from us and Vasilisa could not have been kinder or more patient. Thank you V!!!!”

“Shailyn stayed at our home for 4 nights and took great care of the house and our beloved Lucky!! Neighbors said Lucky looked very happy on his walks while we were gone. Very thankful for her giving Lucky lots of love while we were gone!”

About: I have owned and loved dogs my entire life. I've had Labs (I currently have a Golden/Lab mix named Joey! He has ALL of the Golden retriever energy), Greyhounds (RIP sweet Gloria and Cougar!), Austrailian shepherds, and German shepherds as my own and/or family pets, and am very comfortable with high energy, big breeds. I love giving extra smart dogs some fun mental challenges to keep them occupied, and of course am happy to rub bellies for as long as the dog requests. I love the high energy and silly quirks of smaller dog breeds too! I've house sat and cared for animals off and on for over a decade, but have just recently reactivated my Rover profile and am looking to accept new clients. I work part time as a yoga instructor, and homeschool my kiddos. My schedule is VERY flexible, and I am often able to pick up day-of requests. I've a Type-A scheduler too though, so I love some advanced notice! I can't imagine my life without pets and feel strongly that a home just doesn't feel like a home without pets. I will treat your pets just like a family member, because that's exactly who they are! I love specific requests, and accomodating exactly what your pet is used to so they don't feel lonely or confused.
“Georgette stayed in our apartment for 5 nights to take care of our cats Shinto and Tanuki. They don't have any medical problems but Shinto needs a lot of attention and Tanuki is shy of strangers. Georgette took great care of them and sent lots of pictures so we didn't worry about them. I hope to book her again the next time we are out of town.”

“Josie was exactly what we wanted for our dogs while we were away! She was so communicative with us and sent us so many pictures. We could tell our dogs loved her and cannot recommend her enough. It gave us so much peace knowing someone as loving as Josie was staying with our pups. We will definitely be using her again!”

“Andrew was great- we needed someone to stay at our house and watch our elderly dog for 16 days -he came to meet us and her, stopped by for two dog walks to get to know her. He was responsive, sent updates and let us know right away if any issues or questions. We were able to enjoy our trip and feel good about dog and house being well taken care of- he was able to continue her meds and get on a good routine with her. We got home with house in great shape and Darcy doing well. Would book Andrew again and highly recommend. This was a long dog /house watch and he did great!”

“Annie took great care of Buster and of our house while we were away. Things went very, very smoothly and we are grateful to have had someone we can trust take care of our precious little puppy.”

“Bridget was the best dog sitter we have ever had (that is saying a lot because we have had him for 11 years)! She communicates with us the whole time and sent a ton of great photos. Our dog has some special needs (arthritis and doesn’t love other dogs) and she handled it perfectly. We will book her for all future vacations and dog walks.”
“Terrific communicator and incredible with dogs! Great vibes all around and really appreciated all the updates and pics sent throughout the experience. Highly recommend Ismy and will absolutely use again in the future.”

“Allison is great with animals. She stayed with my dog over a weekend and my dog absolutely loved her. Allison sent me plenty of pictures and updates during the stay. I didn't have any worries on my trip as I could tell that my dog was in good hands. I would definitely recommend Allison!”

“Renee was wonderful with our 4 pets! She house sat for us for a few days and followed all of our instructions. Everything went so smoothly. She was very considerate and was not afraid to ask questions during her stay, which I prefer. She went above and beyond taking our dogs on super long walks (which she def didn’t have to, esp in the winter weather!). I am thankful to have had Renee taking care of our animals and will def rebook in the future!”

“Tiffany was a fantastic house sitter for our 9-month-old puppy! She was responsive, professional, and made sure our dog felt comfortable and well cared for while we were away - which gave us great peace of mind. We will definitely use her again and highly recommend her!”

Tasha is our absolute favorite! She is reliable, intelligent, considerate, conscientious, and the glowing review goes on and on! I have been a fur momma for 20 years, and I can without a say she’s one of the best! I can enjoy my time away knowing that my animals are safe and sound AND loved on 😊Our cats Frankie and Maple adore Tasha, and so do their parents! 😊🙃👌🏼

Rebeca did a great job house sitting for us while we were out of town! Our dog is normally slow to warm up to people but she really opened up to Rebeca very quickly. She obviously cares a lot about pets, was proactive about confirming appointments and did a great job communicating with us and giving updates during her stay. We look forward to having Rebeca watch Izzy again in the future. Thanks!

Alex was wonderful!!! She took perfect care of our Great Dane. She communicated well, gave good updates, and even got to know some of our neighbors. She was able to help us out in a pinch and left our house the same as it was. We appreciate you Alex! Thank you!

Camille is amazing. She has looked after our cat and home many times now. This last trip, unfortunately, our aging cat unexpectedly needed extra attention and care. Camille handed the whole situation gracefully and with love. We are very grateful and feel fortunate that our Coco was in such good hands.

Shailyn watched my dog for a few nights, and I have nothing but good things to share! Shailyn is responsive in booking the service and scheduling a meet and greet. She shared plenty of pictures and updates throughout the weekend, and definitely made me feel more comfortable about being away from my pet!

Orlando is the best! At this point he's practically family. He's looked after my cat several times now. His communication is incredible. He's always so kind and caring. He sends wonderful updates with pictures and videos. He makes sure that all her needs are met and makes me feel very assured my little one is in the best hands. He is very respectful in my home and treats it just as well as he would his own. I'll always look to Orlando first when I need support while I'm away.

Ciara was absolutely amazing. I was so flustered at the thought of leaving my dogs when I had to make a last-minute work trip, and she immediately put me at ease. I found myself forgetting so many small things, but she was great at asking questions and being extremely receptive to communication throughout the booking. Ciara is also extremely intuitive. My dogs have some health and behavioral issues that can be challenging, yet she fell into the routine with them to ensure as smooth as a transition as possible. I came back to a clean home with happy and excited dogs. Would definitely book again, no question!

Revan cared for our puppy and cat with such care and love. We feel so lucky to have found her. I was very hesitant to leave our 7 month old puppy for two weeks so Revan came over to meet our pup in advance. When I saw how comfortable and happy she was with Revan, I felt so much better. Revan kept up us up to date every day and when the pup had some gastrointestinal issues, she made chicken and rice for her. We came home to a spotless house and two well-loved pets. Revan truly went above and beyond, making the care of our pets her priority rather than a side gig. She was present with them, kept them on their schedules, and gave our very athletic pup tons of exercise every day. We highly recommend Revan!

Jamie did a great job taking care of our sassy senior dog Barry while we went away for the weekend. This is the first time we've left Barry with someone since moving to Chicago, but we felt comfortable leaving him in Jamie's care at our home. She dealt well with his temperament (always hungry and a bit stubborn), made sure he got plenty of walk time, and provided the extra attention he needs. We will definitely have her back again.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Evanston on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,855 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Evanston. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Evanston walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Evanston maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Evanston choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
