Turns out some things actually are not too good to be true. I've been a human to cats for the last 16 years or so. Scout, my current feline housemate and best fur friend, I've had for almost 7 years. Whenever I've gone out of town previously, I've had friends take care of him, but -- despite their best intentions -- something always went not quite right, and I was always left disappointed or upset -- either with their house-sitting, cat-sitting, or both. But they were my friends doing me a favor so I couldn't really demand or expect much. Recently, I had a 6-day vacation booked, but I've never before left Scout for that length of time. And where I live now, I don't have any friends nearby who I can trust to care for him like I need them to anyway. So, I needed a professional. After scouring Rover, Emmalee was my top choice, so I reached out. Surprisingly, she was available and willing to step in. From the moment we met, through to the end of the booking, she couldn't have been more patient, generous, accommodating and friendly. In case it wasn't already evident... I was paralyzed with anxiety and worry in advance of my vacation. This was heightened by the fact that Scout is extremely wary of strangers, and goes indoors/outdoors freely. My biggest fear was that he would be too afraid to come back inside -- either to eat/drink, relax/sleep, or escape the heat -- thereby increasing risk of injury or sickness. He also has some quirks that can take a little getting used to. And my biggest hope was that Scout would warm up to Emmalee quickly, and none of that would be an issue. Well, miraculously, my hope came true. I don't know how she did it, but Scout warmed up to her within a day and they were buds ever since. Since Scout was clearly in good hands, I could enjoy my vacation without any worry whatsoever. Add to that: Emmalee did absolutely everything I asked of her (all 5 pages of 🙄...), from feeding Scout to looking after the house (within reason). On time, perfectly, every time. All the while keeping me posted via messages, photos, and Rover 'cards'. All the while being super friendly and easygoing, taking my anxiety in stride without any judgement or pushback. Furthermore, she is extremely detail-oriented while also seeing the big picture, and can follow directions while still exercising good judgement and common sense -- which are huge pluses for me. So obviously, Emmalee will be my go-to any time I have to leave Scout again for an extended period moving forward. I can't recommend her enough.”

About: I can cat-sit and house-sit in both Richmond and Loudoun County (NoVA), depending on the time of year! I am a full-time student at VCU, so I am in Richmond during the school year and go back home to NoVA during the summer and other breaks.
