“Mallory was wonderful watching our dogs at our house for the weekend. She handled our two (sometimes troublesome) pups very well and with no complaints, even when one got a little sick. She was communicative throughout the entire process and shared lots of pictures and updates during her stay to make us feel more comfortable and show us they were happy and well loved. She took excellent care of our house as well. Thank you!”

“Once again Joe went above and beyond with taking care of our pets and house. He sent photos and videos multiple times a day so I never had to worry about their care. Our overly needy pup was so relaxed and content when we returned so I know she was well loved! He was also very gracious about staying longer when we had a mix up about our return time. I highly recommend Joe for all your pet care needs.”

“Victor was a great companion to Onion - they took to each other right away. Victor was respectful of my place and left it in great condition. Victor is now on my list of pet sitters for the future.”

“Helen is AWESOME! She kept me updated on how the visit was going. Came home and Addie was great and how was in perfect condition…..she is coming back next week… Please book her if you want total ease of mind while your away!”

“Thank you Marissa! Figgy was well cared for and were so thankful to be able to leave her at home instead of at a kennel. Marissa left the house spotless and was extremely flexible when our plans changed.”

“Lee was absolutely fantastic, and took great care of our lil girl. He was highly responsive, provided great detailed updates throughout the week, and during the meet-and-greet asked great questions to make sure he knew everything that he needed to know ahead of time. We'll definitely be booking with Lee for our future trips and highly recommend him to others as well.”

“Sara was a lovely sitter! She was extremely communicative and sent lots of photos. We felt so comfortable with her watching our pup in our home while we were gone and we could truly trust our dog was in good hands. We came home to a spotless house! She’s going to be our new go-to. Thank you so much Sara!”

“Celeste was an absolutely wonderful dog sitter. She was communicative, thoughtful, and consistently kept me updated, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. It was clear she genuinely cared about my dog, and seeing how happy and comfortable my dog was in her presence meant everything to me. I could tell my dog felt safe, loved, and well cared for the entire time. I would absolutely trust Celeste again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter.”

“Madelaine was amazing with our 2 pups!!! They did a sleep over one night and they were so comfortable with her, they both slept through the night and were happy smiling pups when we got home from our weekend away. We were so happy, we have booked Madelaine for our next week away. 10/10 recommend!”

“Carolyn was wonderful. She took good care of Charlie and was careful to follow instructions including administering medicine and following physical therapy instructions. She left the house very clean and orderly. We would love to use her again.”

“We very much appreciated Emily! I was very nervous to leave our two dogs with a new person as we have one older dog who requires extra attention due to a medical condition. Emily met with us beforehand to go over our routine and then I sent her my "instructions" before we left. She followed their routine and kept us up to date on the dogs. It helped to know the dogs were well taken care of - glad to have found someone to watch our dogs when we have to be away!”
“We had a great experience with Kaleb. He took excellent care of both our dog and cat, sending regular updates and pictures so we felt at ease while away. He left our home in the same good condition he found it, and most importantly, our pets were happy and well cared for. He’s trustworthy and reliable, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a responsible sitter.”

“Catherine was fantastic. From the day I left, I had zero worries, she sent updates and photos on her own, I never had to ask what was going on. Followed every instruction exactly: medications, supplements, kept his water topped off, walked him the full distance I asked for and then some. You could tell she wasn’t just checking boxes. She noticed the small stuff, kept his routine consistent, and it showed. I came home to a calm, happy dog, which honestly says more than any review can. If you need someone who’s reliable, communicates well, and actually treats your dog like their own, book Catherine. I already know I’m using her again.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Dumbarton
Claudia took amazing care of our dog and two cats while we were out of town for the week! She sent regular updates and pictures which gave us peace of mind and let us fully relax. When we returned home, the house looked great and all our guys were in good spirits! We would 100% recommend Claudia and will definitely be rebooking her in the future. Thanks, Claudia!

Catherine is wonderful - great communicator, easy-going, and clearly loves caring for animals. This was the first time I truly felt relaxed being out of town and leaving our dog at home with someone. Even our cleaning lady told us later what a wonderful person Catherine was while they overlapped at the house. We highly recommend Catherine!

Celeste is sweet and kind and took care of Sookie just as we would. They are prompt and informative and always sending feedback and pictures. This is the second time we’ve had them as our sitter. Even though our time was shorten with Sookie, Celsete was fast to get her to an animal hospital and the care she needed. Celsete will always be in our debt and our hearts.

We always love working with Egon. They take great care of our 3 kitties and our house, and we can breathe easy when we travel knowing that all will be well at home. They often go above and beyond to take care of house and home--this time, for example, troubleshooting some issues with the CSA we're a host site for. So grateful for them, and we will definitely hire them again!

Grace was AMAZING as our house sitter- she provided regular updates with photos, cared for our plants, brought in the mail, kept the house in great shape- honestly, everything you could ask for and beyond. She even left some adorable polaroid photos of the pets for us! I would highly recommend Grace to anyone looking for a pet sitter and I know our furry family members are looking forward to the next time they get to see her!

Mallory was the best choice for our pets! Having two dogs and two cats, it’s not always easy to find the right person to take care of them and we are new to Richmond. She spent the night wit them, making them feel comfortable and keeping us posted via texts and pictures. Our pets loved her, had no issues and she was respectful of our home. She also met us a couple times before the actual stay so that one of our dogs could get familiar with her. Couldn’t recommend her enough, you can tell she actually enjoys spending time with them and cares for their well-being!

Collette was a dream sitter. Stayed full time with my senior pups and my house was exactly as it was when I left. No dishes in the sink, no mess. If anything, they are exhausted from being spoiled to pieces. It’s hard to find a sitter who won’t leave the pups alone for hours on end…if you’re looking for someone who truly cares, book Collette!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Dumbarton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Dumbarton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Dumbarton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
